Matt Savoie Collects Two Assists Wednesday

Edmonton Oilers forward Matt Savoie helped to set up both goals in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime victory against the Philadelphia Flyers. His efforts allowed Evan Bouchard to open the scoring in the first frame, and Savoie registered the only assist when Jack Roslovic finished the game 1:19 into the extra period. This was Savoie's first multi-point outing in the National Hockey League. Sitting on four points (one goal, three assists) through 18 games, Savoie has done very little to impress in 2025-26. However, he currently holds additional fantasy value as Connor McDavid's linemate. That might change on Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets if Zach Hyman (wrist) is ready for his season debut.

Oilers Expect Matthew Savoie to Step Up Next Season

Edmonton Oilers forward Matthew Savoie played in only a handful of games in 2024-25 but is expected to become a regular in the lineup next season. "There is some growth from within," Oilers general manager Stan Bowman said. "I think Matt Savoie is probably poised to take a big step next year." Savoie notched one assist in four NHL outings last season while going for 54 points (19 goals, 35 assists) in 66 AHL games for the Bakersfield Condors. The 21-year-old is an exciting talent, and Edmonton seems ready to give him every chance to become an important part of the team. However, fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much too soon from Savoie.

Matthew Savoie To Debut On Top Line Friday

Buffalo Sabres forward Matthew Savoie is expected to make his NHL debut on Friday at home against the Minnesota Wild. The rookie appears to be in a nice position for early success as he has practiced with Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner on the team's top line over the last two days while even getting reps on the top power-play unit. The ninth overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft has recorded two goals and five points in six games with the AHL's Rochester Americans before his NHL promotion. Additionally, he tallied 73 goals and 185 points across 127 games with the WHL's Winnipeg Ice in his final two seasons in junior. Savoie makes for a nice DFS streaming option this week but will likely lose his top-line spot when Alex Tuch (day-to-day) returns to the lineup.

Matthew Savoie Called Up By Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres have called up top prospect and forward Matthew Savoie from the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans. The ninth overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft had a chance to crack Buffalo's opening-night roster but a shoulder injury suffered in a prospect tournament in late September forced him to the minors to begin the season. The 19-year-old has notched two goals and five points alongside six penalty minutes through six games with the Americans this season after notching 75 goals and 185 points across 127 games with the Western Hockey League's Winnipeg Ice over the last two seasons. The Sabres' forward depth is being tested with Dylan Cozens, Jack Quinn, Zach Benson, and Brandon Biro all currently sidelined with injuries.

Matthew Savoie Expected To Return To Practice Next Week

Buffalo Sabres center Matthew Savoie (shoulder) is on track to continue practicing next week. The 19-year-old hurt his shoulder in a prospects game at the start of last week. Savoie is looking to break into the Sabres team for the upcoming campaign after making his pro debut last term with a couple of AHL playoff games with the Rochester Americans. If he can't make the squad, Savoie is set to spend another season in the WHL, where he's tallied 192 points (73 goals, 119 assists) in 149 appearances.
