Philip Broberg Will Miss Several Weeks With Lower-Body Injury

St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg (lower body) will miss the next four to six weeks due to a leg injury suffered on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Broberg went into the boards funny after getting tangled up with Mitch Marner and had to leave the game early, and will now miss significant time. Broberg was getting a good amount of ice time, including some time on the powerplay, and succeeding in that role. Colton Parayko will likely take some of that powerplay time, but Justin Faulk will continue to see most of the work on the man advantage.

Philip Broberg Leaves Saturday Early With Lower-Body Injury

St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg (lower body) left Saturday's game early. Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that head coach Drew Bannister did not have an update regarding the 23-year-old defenseman during the postgame interview. Broberg has enjoyed a fantastic start to his time in St. Louis, scoring nine points through his first 12 games. In addition, he holds a +6 rating with 11 shots on goal, 10 hits, and 12 blocks. For now, fantasy managers should expect Pierre-Oliver Joseph or Matt Kessel to move up to the second pairing to cover from Broberg and for Scott Perunovich to re-enter the starting lineup.

Philip Broberg Enjoying Good Start To Life In St. Louis

St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg has quickly shown why the team was willing to sign him to an offer sheet in the summer. By dishing out an assist in Saturday's 4-3 win over Carolina, Broberg became the ninth rearguard in NHL history to record a point streak of at least six games from the start of his tenure with a franchise. He's the first defenseman to do it since Filip Kuba with the Ottawa Senators in 2008-09. Broberg has bagged one goal and five assists while operating on the second defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. His current scoring rate is clearly unsustainable, but fantasy managers should enjoy it while it lasts. The 23-year-old will try to extend his streak on Tuesday versus Winnipeg.

Blues Officially Sign Philip Broberg

The St. Louis Blues officially signed defenseman Philip Broberg to a two-year contract on Tuesday. The 23-year-old moves to St. Louis after the Edmonton Oilers decided against matching the Blues' offer sheet. Broberg signed up for a total of $9.16 million, with the Oilers receiving a second-round draft pick as compensation. Broberg was a high draft pick back in 2019, going off the board at the eighth spot, but the Swedish blue-liner has struggled to make an impact in the NHL. However, after putting together a strong AHL campaign last term, Broberg showed off very good form during Edmonton's run to the Stanley Cup Finals. It could signify that he is ready to blossom as a player. Unfortunately, the team that drafted him won't be reaping the benefits.

Philip Broberg Signs $9.16 Million Offer Sheet With Blues

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Philip Broberg has signed an offer sheet with the St. Louis Blues. He agreed on a two-year, $9.16 million deal. The Oilers now need to match the offer within seven days in order to retain Broberg, who is a restricted free agent following the expiration of his entry-level contract. Broberg has struggled to make an impact in Edmonton and featured just 12 times in the NHL last season. However, he was very productive in the AHL, with 38 points (five goals, 33 assists) collected in 49 outings, and played well in the Stanley Cup Playoffs during the team run to the Final.

Philip Broberg Recalled By Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled prospect defenseman Philip Broberg from Bakersfield (AHL). Broberg was expected to start the season with Edmonton, but had to be sent down because of multiple injuries to their forward group that forced the Oilers to call up Devin Shore. In any case, he's here now and is looking to prove to the club he is an NHL-caliber defenseman at this point in his career. Although he got a 23-game tryout last season, there is no guarantee that Broberg stays with the team past the nine games allowed for players still on their entry-level contracts. For fantasy purposes, Broberg has little value in redraft leagues but should be rostered in most dynasty formats.
