Abraham Toro Out For A's

Oakland Athletics third baseman Abraham Toro is not starting for the A's on Tuesday against the hosting New York Mets at Citi Field in Queens. Darell Hernaiz will take his place at third base and will hit eighth against Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn. Toro is quickly losing playing time to Hernaiz in Oakland after struggling since coming off the injured list on July 21. Since then, Toro has gone 8-for-53 (.151) with two doubles, two RBI, five walks, seven strikeouts and one stolen base in 16 games played. On the season as a whole, the 27-year-old Canadian is slashing .242/.290/.355 with a .644 OPS, six homers, 26 RBI and four steals in 330 at-bats. He belongs on the waiver wire in mixed fantasy leagues. Hernaiz has gone 15-for-83 (.181) with a homer and seven RBI in his first 34 big-league games in 2024.

Abraham Toro Retreats To The Bench

Oakland Athletics infielder Abraham Toro will head to the bench on Monday with the team facing the visiting Chicago White Sox. With Toro out, Darell Hernaiz will get the start at third base and will bat eighth in the order against White Sox left-hander Ky Bush, who is making his major-league debut. Toro will get a break for the A's after starting in each of the previous four games. The 27-year-old switch-hitting infielder has been better against lefty pitchers this year, hitting .280 (21-for-75), but with only one of his six home runs. Toro has struggled since coming off the injured list on July 21, going 7-for-37 (.189) with two doubles, two RBI, a stolen base and four strikeouts in 11 games played. He's mainly a corner-infield option in AL-only leagues in the weak A's offense. Hernaiz is hitting .171 (12-for-70) and is searching for his first homer in his first year in the big leagues in 2024.

Abraham Toro Hits Grand Slam In Rehab Game

Oakland Athletics third baseman Abraham Toro (hamstring) went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, four RBI and a run scored in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Wednesday. In addition to hitting a grand slam, Toro played all seven innings at second base in his second rehab game. Before being reinstated from the 10-day injured list, Toro is probably going to need to play at least a few games at a higher minor-league affiliate, but the 27-year-old infielder is nearing a return to the big leagues in the second half of the season. When the A's feel he's ready, the Canadian should return to regular duties at the hot corner in Oakland, giving him fantasy value at least in AL-only leagues. Before his hamstring injury, Toro was hitting .260/.303/.386 with six home runs, 24 RBI and three stolen bases in 277 at-bats near the top of the A's batting order.

Abraham Toro Sent To Arizona Complex League

The Oakland Athletics sent third baseman Abraham Toro (hamstring) to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Monday. Toro will now resume playing in games after missing almost a month with a right-hamstring strain. It remains to be seen if the 27-year-old will be ready to come off the injured list when the second half of the 2024 season starts on Friday after this week's All-Star break. Before injuring his hamstring, Toro was the team's starting third baseman and was hitting at the top of the batting order, making him worth rostering in at least all AL-only fantasy leagues. The switch-hitting Canadian hit .260/.303/.386 with six home runs, 24 RBI and 32 runs scored in 277 at-bats.

Abraham Toro Begins Working Out At Arizona Complex

Oakland Athletics third baseman Abraham Toro (hamstring) has begun working at the team's spring training complex in Arizona. Athletics skipper Mark Kotsay expressed that the 27-year-old could embark on a rehab assignment after the All-Star break. Toro was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 22 with a strained hamstring. Prior to the injury, Toro saw time in several defensive positions and held a .260/.303/.386 line with six home runs and three stolen bases. When he returns to the major leagues, he could be worth adding in deeper AL-only leagues due to positional flexibility.

Abraham Toro Expected To Be Out Through All-Star Break

Oakland Athletics third baseman Abraham Toro (hamstring) is expected to be out at least through the All-Star break in mid-July, but the A's are hopeful that he could begin running the bases at some point this week. Toro is rehabbing a Grade 1 hamstring strain and will need to begin running the bases and eventually swinging a bat again before he's cleared to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. If all goes well once the 27-year-old starts playing in minor-league games, he could return to the A's lineup before the end of July. Before his hamstring injury, the former fifth-rounder of the Houston Astros in 2016 out of Seminole State College was playing regularly for the A's at the hot corner while hitting .260/.303/.386 with a below-average .689 OPS, six home runs, 24 RBI and 32 runs scored in 277 at-bats in his first year in the Bay Area.

Abraham Toro To Go On Injured List After Straining His Hamstring

Oakland Athletics infielder Abraham Toro (hamstring) suffered a hamstring strain in Friday's game against the visiting Minnesota Twins and will go on the injured list, according to manager Mark Kotsay. In his first game back on Friday against the Twins after injuring his shoulder earlier in the week, Toro suffered a new injury and will now miss more time. Before leaving, the 27-year-old third baseman went 1-for-3 with a walk, run scored and a strikeout in the eventual 6-5 win. Toro has gained some attention in deeper fantasy leagues this year in Oakland with regular playing time at the hot corner. He entered Friday's contest with a .259/.300/.387 slash line with six homers, 24 RBI, three steals and 31 runs scored in 274 at-bats. Some combination of Tyler Nevin and Aledmys Diaz should see work at third base while Toro's hamstring heals.

Abraham Toro Back In A's Lineup

Oakland Athletics infielder Abraham Toro (shoulder) is back at third base and is batting in his customary leadoff spot on Friday in Minnesota against the Twins and right-hander Chris Paddack. Toro is going to give it a go for the A's after missing the last three games with shoulder soreness, but he did serve as a pinch-hitter in Thursday's loss to the Kansas City Royals. The 27-year-old switch-hitter has earned regular playing time for Oakland and a spot atop the batting order by hitting .259/.300/.387 with six home runs, 24 RBI, three stolen bases and 31 runs scored in 274 at-bats. The playing time is useful for those in deeper fantasy leagues, but he has a low ceiling for counting stats with the A's and is hitting just .161 (10-for-62) with a homer, two doubles, four RBI and 13 strikeouts in 16 games in the month of June. Toro is hitless in two career at-bats versus Paddack.

Abraham Toro Out Again Against Royals

Oakland Athletics infielder Abraham Toro (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup once again on Thursday against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Toro will miss a third straight game due to a sore shoulder. Aledmys Diaz is starting at the hot corner for the A's and will bat ninth against Royals right-hander Seth Lugo. Toro has been one of the bright spots for the A's this year and has gotten some run at the top of the batting order as well. He's currently slashing .256/.298/.381 with six home runs, 24 RBI, three stolen bases and 31 runs scored in 273 at-bats in his first year in Oakland. Even if Toro continues to hit leadoff and play regularly, his counting stats will likely be lacking for fantasy managers in deeper leagues. Diaz will be playing in only his eighth game of the year on Thursday. He has only two hits in 22 at-bats with an RBI and five K's.

Abraham Toro Continues His Hot Hitting

Oakland Athletics second baseman Abraham Toro went 2-for-5 in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Mariners, and now has eight multi-hit efforts in his last 11 games. Since April 26, the 27-year-old is 23-for-57 (.404) with six doubles, a home run, eight RBI, and 11 runs scored. After a hot spring that earned him a spot on the roster, Toro has been able to continue that success in the regular season. It was thought maybe the signing of J.D. Davis would limit his playing time, but between Davis having an IL stint and Toro's ability to play second base (14 games), third base (10), designated hitter (9), and first base (3), the A's have been able to keep his bat in the lineup. The former fifth-round draft pick's hot hitting and multi-position eligibility (2B, 3B) has made him a popular waiver wire addition.
