Evan Phillips to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Dodgers right-handed reliever Evan Phillips (forearm) will undergo Tommy John surgery, manager Dave Roberts announced. He will miss the rest of this season and likely a sizable portion of 2026 as a result. The Dodgers placed the 30-year-old on the 15-day injured list May 7 after he appeared in seven games and tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings. They shifted him to the 60-day IL after acquiring fellow reliever Alexis Diaz from the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Phillips entered the season off a great three-year, 179-inning stretch in which he pitched to a sterling 2.21 ERA and racked up 206 strikeouts against 45 walks. He won't be able to build on that success for the foreseeable future.

Dodgers Transfer Evan Phillips to the 60-day Injured List

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Evan Phillips has been transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster for newly acquired right-handed reliever Alexis Diaz, the team reports. Phillips was placed on the 15-day injured list with right forearm discomfort on May 7, which was attributed to inflammation in his elbow. Since then, he hasn't resumed any throwing program. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that "it's starting to get a little concerning" that Phillips hasn't begun throwing yet. The relief pitcher does not seem to be returning to action anytime soon. It seems likely he will be re-evaluated soon to give the Dodgers a better gauge of what his timeline for return looks like. In the meantime, look for newly acquired Diaz, Tanner Scott, and Alex Vesia to continue to get high-leverage, end-of-game situations for the Dodgers until Kirby Yates (hamstring) and Michael Kopech (shoulder) return from the Injured List.

Evan Phillips Shut Down For Two Weeks

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips (elbow) was recently placed on the 15-day injured list due to forearm discomfort. An MRI revealed that Phillips is dealing with elbow inflammation, so he'll likely be sidelined longer than expected. For now, Phillips will be shut down for the next two weeks before hopefully beginning a throwing program. That being said, Phillips might not be back on the mound until some point in June. Before going down, Phillips threw 5.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and one save in seven appearances. There should be a better timetable on him in a few weeks.

Evan Phillips Hits 15-Day Injured List With Forearm Discomfort

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed relief pitcher Evan Phillips (forearm) on the 15-day injured list with right forearm discomfort. Phillips opened the campaign on the injured list due to a shoulder strain but will be sidelined for another period. Phillips has logged just five 2/3 innings of work this season. He did not allow a run and struck out six batters with a solid 1.06 WHIP. He has tallied two holds being deployed as a high-leverage relief option. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but given this injury, Phillips could be sidelined for an extended period. While he is sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates, and Alex Vesia to see most of the high-leverage opportunities in the Dodger bullpen. However, Scott remains the top option for saves.

Evan Phillips Expected To Be Activated Next Week

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips (shoulder) is expected to rejoin the roster for their series against the Chicago Cubs. Phillips has been working his way back from a shoulder strain that kept him sidelined for part of the postseason last season. He began the season on the 15-day injured list, but he appears almost ready to return. Phillips hasn't posted pretty numbers during his rehab assignment, but those stats don't matter too much. The Dodgers are hopeful that Phillips can slide right back into his role as a high-leverage option at the back-end of this bullpen.

Evan Phillips "Close" To A Return

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Evan Phillips (shoulder) made his fourth minor-league rehab appearance on Friday and is "close" to a return, according to manager Dave Roberts. Phillips is scheduled to make another rehab appearance on Tuesday. The 30-year-old veteran is recovering from a torn muscle in his rotator cuff and began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on April 3. In four appearances so far for OKC, Phillips has allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out six in 3 2/3 innings of work. Barring a setback, it appears that he'll rejoin L.A.'s bullpen and make his 2025 season debut before the end of April. Phillips recorded 42 total saves for the Dodgers in the last two seasons, but after they added firepower to the back end of their bullpen in the offseason, he's expected to be used as more of a setup man when he returns.

Tony Gonsolin, Evan Phillips Starting Rehab Assignments

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handers Tony Gonsolin (back) and Evan Phillips (shoulder) are both scheduled to begin minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. Gonsolin is scheduled to start on Thursday and pitch around two innings. Gonsolin is recovering from a back injury that he suffered in early March while lifting weights, but both he and Phillips are getting close to rejoining the big-league roster in the month of April. Given L.A.'s stacked starting rotation, though, it's unclear if the 30-year-old Gonsolin will serve as a starter or long reliever for the Blue when he's cleared to be activated. Phillips, 30, didn't pitch at all during spring training due to a right-shoulder injury that had been bothering him since the World Series last October. He led the Dodgers in saves the last two years but has lost considerable fantasy value after the team added Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates to the bullpen in the offseason.

Evan Phillips To Throw Bullpen On Friday

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed relief pitcher Evan Phillips (shoulder) will throw his first bullpen session of the spring on Friday, according to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett. Phillips knows that he will not be ready for Opening Day in the two-game series against the Chicago Cubs in Tokyo, Japan, but he is progressing well in his recovery from a subscapularis tear and isn't far behind schedule. The 30-year-old was unavailable for the World Series last fall against the New York Yankees, but he might be able to make his 2025 debut in early April. After the offseason signings of Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates, Phillips will be pushed further down the bullpen pecking order whenever he returns and probably won't be an option for many saves, if any at all. Phillips also missed time with a hamstring injury in 2024 and lost the closing gig upon his return.

Evan Phillips Unlikely To Be Ready For Opening Day

According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips (shoulder) is still recovering from the injury that kept him sidelined during the World Series and is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. Plunkett noted that the 30-year-old suffered a tear in the back of his rotator cuff. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in November and only began doing baseball activities in January. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during spring training, but it seems unlikely that he will be ready for Opening Day. Last season, Phillips posted a 3.62 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP across 54 2/3 innings. He tallied 63 punchouts and 18 saves. He generated a strong 32.7 percent hard-hit rate with a solid 3.29 xERA. While Phillips is sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Tanner Scott to see most of the save opportunities, with Kirby Yates, Blake Treinen, and Alex Vesia also seeing high-leverage work.

Evan Phillips Should Be Good To Go For Spring Training

Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said that right-handed reliever Evan Phillips (shoulder) is "fine" and should be good to go for spring training in February. Phillips missed the World Series in October due to a right-shoulder injury but didn't require surgery. He has yet to start a throwing program, but as a reliever, he still has plenty of time to do so and still be ready for the start of spring training. The 30-year-old was officially shut down in the postseason with arm fatigue. Phillips wasn't quite as good in his third year in LA in 2024, posting a 3.62 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, 18 saves and 63:17 K:BB in 54 2/3 regular-season innings out of the bullpen. Despite the disappointing numbers, Evans saved a career-high 24 games for the Blue in 2023 and should have a high-leverage bullpen role yet again in 2025 for the best team in baseball.
