Catcher Korey Lee homered on Saturday in an 11-3 rout of the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Lee hit his eighth homer in the eighth inning. Lee is hitting .234 with eight home runs, 23 RBI, five stolen bases, and 20 runs in 2024. He is a name to watch especially in two catcher leagues due to getting more playing time over veteran Martin Maldonado. The power and speed combination provides Lee value at a premier position in fantasy baseball.
Minnesota Twins infielder/outfielder Tony Kemp has been released by the organization on Monday. Kemp decided to opt out of his deal with the Twins having a strong showing in the minors. Kemp is slashing .279/.358/.436 through 46 games with Triple-A St. Paul. He has bounced around quite a bit since his time in Oakland. Kemp might land elsewhere as a depth option but it's hard to imagine him having fantasy value on any organization.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he is going to give infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor more of a "runway" to play third base moving forward. Max Muncy (oblique) has been on the injured list since May 17, and Cavan Biggio hasn't been good at all since being acquired in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, giving Taylor more leeway to get playing time at the hot corner in LA. The 33-year-old veteran utility man is still batting a miserable .164 (18-for-110) on the year with just two homers, 12 RBI and 43 strikeouts in 126 trips to the plate in 47 games in 2024, but he's starting to turn things around of late. In 14 games played in the month of June, Taylor went 10-for-36 (.278) with two homers, a double, a triple, four RBI, two stolen bases and seven runs scored for the Blue. With additional playing time at third, Taylor's fantasy stock is trending up in deeper leagues.
Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Marco Gonzales (forearm) will begin his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Gonzales has been cleared to pitch in a game finally after three weeks of throwing off a mound. The 32-year-old veteran southpaw was originally sidelined in mid-April with a left-forearm strain but is now getting closer to returning to the Pirates' starting rotation. Even if he doesn't encounter a setback during his rehab assignment, Gonzales is likely to need a handful of rehab starts and probably won't be an option for the Bucs again until after the mid-July All-Star break. Gonzales started off nicely in his first year in Pittsburgh by posting a 2.65 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in three starts before going on the injured list, but his 17.6% strikeout rate in 10 big-league seasons leaves a lot to be desired from a fantasy perspective.
Pittsburgh Pirates catcher/outfielder Henry Davis (concussion) had his minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona paused on Sunday. Davis didn't suffer another concussion but experienced reoccurring symptoms from his concussion. The 24-year-old former first-rounder went on the seven-day concussion injured list on June 15 and is now unlikely to return to the major-league roster until after the All-Star break in mid-July. He appeared in just two rehab games for the Curve before being shut down with reoccurring concussion symptoms, which obviously isn't a good sign. For now, the Pirates will continue on with Joey Bart and veteran Yasmani Grandal splitting the catching duties. Davis has so far been a bust in his 91 major-league games, hitting .197 (61-for-310) with eight homers, 29 RBI and 109 K's in 357 plate appearances.
The Cincinnati Reds transferred catcher Tyler Stephenson to the family medical emergency list on Monday from the paternity list. Stephenson has already been away from the team for the last three games while on the paternity list, but now he could be away from an additional three to seven days. As long as he remains away from the club, the Reds will carry on with a combination of Luke Maile and Austin Wynns behind the plate in Cincinnati. The 27-year-old Stephenson has been a pretty average contributor for the Reds so far this year, slashing .240/.320/.397 with a .717 OPS, six long balls, 24 RBI and 29 runs scored in 204 at-bats. At the shallow catching position in fantasy, though, those numbers go a lot further for fantasy managers.
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (shoulder, triceps) will start his minor-league rehab assignment by starting for High-A Brooklyn on Wednesday and he's expected to throw 40 pitches. Senga was diagnosed with a right-shoulder strain during spring training in February and then had his rehab paused due to a triceps injury. The 31-year-old Japanese hurler has yet to make his 2024 debut in the big leagues due to the injuries, but after a solid rookie season for the Mets in 2023, he should have been stashed in an injured-list spot in all fantasy leagues to this point. Because of the long layoff, Senga will have a rather lengthy rehab assignment and isn't going to be ready to rejoin New York's starting rotation until after the All-Star break. Senga was an All-Star last year and went 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with a nice 29.1% strikeout rate in 29 starts (166 1/3 innings).
San Diego Padres right-hander Randy Vasquez (forearm) has been cleared to make his next start on Friday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Vasquez left his last start after just 59 pitches on Friday night in Boston against the Red Sox and took a no-decision after being hit in the right forearm by a comebacker. In his four innings of work, he gave up only one earned run on five hits while striking out one and walking one. Thankfully, the 25-year-old avoided any structural damage in his arm and will not even miss a turn through the rotation. Still, he'll be a bit more risky for fantasy managers in deeper leagues against Arizona. Since returning to the Padres from Triple-A El Paso on June 1, Vasquez has gone 2-1 with a 4.20 ERA and 1.60 WHIP with 19 K's and nine walks in six starts covering 30 innings. He had a quality start in his first meeting with the D-backs on June 6, when he allowed three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings for a no-decision.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (illness) is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday against the division-rival Oakland Athletics, according to manager Ron Washington. Drury missed nine straight games due to an illness before entering the game as a pinch-hitter in Sunday's loss to the Detroit Tigers and going 0-for-2 with a strikeout. It sounds like the 31-year-old veteran is feeling better, though, and he should be available for the series opener on Tuesday in Oakland. Drury should be on the waiver wire in standard 12-team fantasy leagues, as he's played in only 33 games so far in 2024 and hasn't been good at all at the plate when he's been available, slashing just .170/.230/.232 with a .462 OPS, one homer, six RBI and 24 strikeouts in 122 plate appearances.
Pitcher Mike Vasil has leapfrogged New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Christian Scott in the Triple-A Syracuse starting rotation to start on Monday in what would normally be Scott's spot. It's a pretty good indication that Scott will be recalled to the majors to make another start for the Mets this week. The team currently has a TBA in their rotation for Wednesday's contest versus the division-rival Washington Nationals. Fantasy managers will want to jump on the 25-year-old right away, as he should stick around in New York's rotation, at least until the All-Star break in mid-July. The team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, held his own in his first five big-league starts earlier this year, going 0-2 with a 3.90 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 25 strikeouts in his 27 2/3 innings of work. Scott's workload will be monitored in the second half for sure, which limits his fantasy ceiling in 2024, but he can still be a deep-league streamer until then. UPDATE: Scott will return to start on Wednesday against the Nats, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.
Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) will make his rehab start on Wednesday in Florida. Tiedemann was dominant in his last rehab outing for Single-A Dunedin last Wednesday, striking out five over 2 1/3 scoreless innings. The 21-year-old southpaw hasn't allowed a run while striking out nine and walking only two in 4 1/3 innings in his last two appearances for Dunedin and appears to be close to being activated from the seven-day injured list to return to Triple-A Buffalo to continue his development. Tiedemann, the team's top pitching prospect, has high-end upside at the next level, but the Blue Jays are going to play it safe with him and continue to build up his arm after he also dealt with an injury last year. It would not be a surprise if he does not make his big-league debut until 2025.
