German Marquez Expected to Return Friday

Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez (biceps) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and is expected to come off the 15-day injured list to start against the Chicago Cubs on Friday. It's been a little over a month since the Rockies placed Marquez on the IL on July 21 with right biceps tendinitis. The 30-year-old made 20 starts before then and went 3-11 with a 5.67 ERA, a 1.64 WHIP, and 73:35 K:BB in 98 1/3 innings. Marquez debuted in the bigs with the Rockies in 2016, but the former All-Star's long run with the franchise is likely nearing an end. As a soon-to-be free agent, Marquez will "almost certainly" sign elsewhere in the offseason, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.

German Marquez Set to Begin Rehab Assignment on Tuesday

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez (biceps) is set to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday, reports Thomas Harding of MLB.com. He'll be making the start at Triple-A Albuquerque with the plan to make a follow-up start on Sunday before returning to the major league rotation. The 30-year-old has been out since July 20 with right biceps tendinitis, so if everything goes well, he will end up missing a little over a month with the injury. In 20 starts this season, the right-hander has posted an unsightly 5.68 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, but there's not much competition in Colorado to challenge for his spot in the rotation.

German Marquez Throws a Bullpen Session

Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez (biceps) threw a bullpen session Saturday and is scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Marquez has been sidelined since July 21, meaning a rehab assignment is likely; however, the team has yet to announce whether that is necessary. While this is good news for German and the Rockies, at this time, Marquez is not a recommended fantasy option. He boasts a 5.67 ERA, a 1.64 WHIP, and a 6.68 K/9 in 98 1/3 innings pitched. In addition, he pitches in the least pitcher-friendly ballpark in the majors, Coors Field. Feel free to keep him on the waiver wire for the time being in redraft leagues.

German Marquez Plays Catch on Monday

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez (biceps) played catch at 105 feet on Monday, but there is no timetable for his return, according to MLB.com. Marquez was placed on the 15-day injured list on July 23 (retroactive to July 21) due to right biceps tendinitis. The 30-year-old has thrown 98 1/3 innings (20 starts) this season, recording a 3-11 record with a 5.67 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts. It's a good sign that Marquez has resumed throwing so soon after the injury, but there's no reason for the last-place Rockies to rush him back. Regardless, Marquez has not pitched well enough this year to be viable in fantasy. Right-hander Tanner Gordon has taken his place in the Colorado rotation since Marquez went down.

German Marquez Officially Placed on Injured List

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they placed right-hander German Marquez (biceps) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to July 21) with right-biceps tendinitis and recalled right-hander Tanner Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Gordon will make his fourth start of the season in Wednesday's series finale at Coors Field against the St. Louis Cardinals and will be a very shaky fantasy streamer in deeper formats. Marquez lands on the IL after he was forced from his last start early on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins. Fantasy managers with the 30-year-old in deeper leagues shouldn't expect him to be ready to return when he's eligible to come off the IL on Aug. 5. Marquez has not been good enough to be rostered in mixed leagues. While he's out, Gordon could get multiple starts for the Rockies.

German Marquez Expected to Land on Injured List With Biceps Inflammation

Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez (biceps) said he is dealing with biceps tendon inflammation and is expected to land on the 15-day injured list, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding. Marquez underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday, which confirmed his biceps inflammation. Right-hander Tanner Gordon is with the team in Colorado and is in line to make the start for Wednesday's contest at Coors Field against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 30-year-old Marquez hasn't been much of a fantasy asset in 2025, going 3-11 with a 5.67 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 73 strikeouts and 35 walks in 98 1/3 innings pitched over his 20 starts. Marquez was pulled from his last start early on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins after giving up three earned runs in three innings. It's possible that he'll be sidelined beyond two weeks with this injury.

German Marquez Exits Early With Shoulder Issue, Considered Day-To-Day

Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez (shoulder) was pulled after just three innings in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two across three innings. The 30-year-old is now (3-11) on the season and is believed to be dealing with right shoulder inflammation, an issue that reportedly began after his July 11 start and lingered through the All-Star break. Marquez could miss his next turn in the rotation, potentially forcing a bullpen game for Colorado. With a 5.67 ERA over 20 starts and just 73 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings, Marquez should be avoided in all fantasy formats, along with the rest of the Rockies' rotation.

German Marquez Notches Quality Start on Thursday

Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez pitched well but took the loss in his team's 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Marquez allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over seven innings while striking out five and walking two. He saw his record fall to 1-7, to go along with a 7.66 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 47 innings of work this season. That being said, Marquez has allowed just one earned run in two of his past three starts. He still can't be trusted in any fantasy league, but it is worth monitoring him in case he strings together a few more productive outings.

German Marquez Looks Sharp On Sunday

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez was able to earn his first win of the season during Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. Marquez took an 0-6 record with a 9.90 ERA into Sunday's contest against a tough Padres lineup. Despite that, Marquez was sharp as he tossed seven strong innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, while striking out two batters in the win. It has a positive outing from Marquez who has been awful throughout most of his starts. He'll hope to carry this momentum into his next start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fantasy managers can leave Marquez on the waiver wire until he proves he can do it again.

German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, Lucas Gilbreath All Healthy

According to Patrick Lyons of Just BB Media, Colorado Rockies pitchers German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, and Lucas Gilbreath are healthy entering spring training. All three pitchers underwent Tommy John surgery during the 2023 campaign. Marquez was able to log four innings of work last season but then battled a stress reaction, which kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season. Senzatela made three starts during the final month of the season and held a hefty 6.57 ERA with a 1.86 WHIP. Gilbreath returned to the mound in August but then returned to the injured list shortly after with shoulder inflammation. Marquez was a reliable contributor to the starting rotation during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, where he logged 361 2/3 total innings. Marquez and Senzatela will likely have a role in the starting rotation in 2025, while Gilbreath will be deployed out of the bullpen.
