Yoendrys Gomez Earns Sixth Save, has he Claimed the Closer Job?

Minnesota Twins reliever Yoendrys Gomez closed Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals with a clean ninth inning to earn his sixth save of the season and his third in June. On the season, the Twins' closer role has been a bit of a carousel; however, Gomez has become the clear preferred option at this point, and is worth a waiver-wire look in deeper leagues where saves are scarce or hard to come by. On the season, Gomez has not been anything spectacular, as he owns a 1.40 WHIP and 4.01 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings pitched; however, in category leagues, a save is a save. For those putting in bids for Gomez, he should come with a short leash, as nothing under the hood speaks to him being a high-upside breakout, as it's more so that he is earning the most recent saves for the Twins and converting on them.

Yoendrys Gomez a Must-Add Waiver-Wire Target for Save-Needy Fantasy Managers?

Since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in early May, Minnesota Twins right-hander Yoendrys Gomez has emerged as a key piece in his new team's bullpen. Across 14 innings (16 games) with Minnesota, Gomez owns a 0.64 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 18 strikeouts and three saves. The 26-year-old's average fastball velocity is currently a career-best 95.4 miles per hour, and he's struck out 32.7% of the batters he's faced as a Twin. Gomez's last two appearances for the Twins have both come in the eighth inning as the team continues to operate with a committee approach to the closer role. However, he's been the best reliever in Minnesota since joining the team, and it could be just a matter of time before he emerges as the preferred option in the ninth inning. For fantasy managers in need of saves, Gomez could be worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Yoendrys Gomez Entering Priority Waiver-Wire Territory?

Minnesota Twins right-hander Yoendrys Gomez picked up his fourth save of the season Tuesday, recording the final four outs in a 6-4 victory over the White Sox while striking out two. The 26-year-old has steadily improved after a difficult April, posting a 0.87 ERA during May while earning a larger role in the Minnesota bullpen. Gomez now owns a 3.90 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and leads the Twins in saves. Minnesota continues to utilize multiple relievers in save situations, but Gomez has made a strong case for additional ninth-inning opportunities. Fantasy managers searching for saves should view him as a priority waiver wire target while his role continues to grow.

Yoendrys Gomez Emerging as the Closer to Roster in Minnesota

Since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in early May, Minnesota Twins reliever Yoendrys Gomez has emerged as a key piece in his new team's bullpen. Across 11 1/3 innings (13 games) with Minnesota, Gomez has pitched to a 0.79 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and two saves. The 26-year-old has also finished six games on the mound for the Twins. Minnesota has opted for a committee approach to the ninth inning in 2026, as 11 different relievers have earned saves for the team so far this season. However, Gomez and veteran lefty Taylor Rogers are the only Twins pitchers currently on the active roster with multiple saves, and Rogers has struggled to a 4.15 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in his 25 appearances. If Gomez can continue his strong work, he could take hold of the closer role in Minnesota. He profiles as a worthy waiver wire target in deeper leagues.

Twins Turn to Yoendrys Gomez to Earn Save, Emerging as Name to Roster in Bullpen?

Twins right-hander Yoendrys Gomez worked around a hit and an unearned run to secure his third save of the season in Tuesday's 5-3 extra-innings victory over the White Sox. Minnesota has rotated several relievers through ninth-inning opportunities recently, but Gomez now leads the club in saves and appears to be gaining momentum in high-leverage situations. After a difficult start to the season, the 25-year-old has posted a 1.04 ERA in May while lowering his season ERA to 4.50. Gomez has shown improved command and poise late in games, helping him climb the bullpen hierarchy. Fantasy managers searching for saves should continue to monitor Gomez closely as his role with the Twins continues to grow.

Yoendrys Gomez Called Up to Start on Tuesday

The Chicago White Sox announced on Tuesday that they selected the contract of right-hander Yoendrys Gomez from Triple-A Charlotte, and he will make the start on Tuesday night against the division-rival Detroit Tigers. In a corresponding move, the team optioned right-hander Elvis Peguero to Charlotte. Gomez debuted in the big leagues in 2023 with the New York Yankees and has made 18 relief appearances since then with the Yanks, Los Angeles Dodgers and White Sox, but this will be his first start. In 17 2/3 innings pitched this year with all three of the aforementioned clubs, the 25-year-old has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on 20 hits (three homers) while walking 13 and striking out 13. He has worked as a starter for the last few months in the minors, so he's stretched out, but fantasy managers should be avoiding him everywhere against the first-place Tigers.
