Jarlin Susana Sent To Minor-League Camp

Washington Nationals pitching prospect Jarlin Susana was sent to the minor-league camp. Susana is considered one of the top prospects in the Washington system. During his brief look at spring training, the 20-year-old tossed three innings with three punchouts. The right-hander received his first full look of professional baseball during the 2023 season as he logged 63 innings and held a 5.14 ERA with a 1.52 WHIP. He tallied 62 punchouts but showed weak command as he served up 40 free passes. During the 2024 season, Susana logged another 56 1/3 innings at Single-A and held an improved 4.47 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP. He then earned a taste of High-A as he logged a 4.18 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP across 47 1/3 innings. Dynasty managers should expect the right-hander to open the campaign at the High-A level and could push for a Double-A debut.

Jarlin Susana Bringing The Heat In Camp

Washington Nationals right-hander Jarlin Susana hit 100 mph during his first bullpen session of the spring and was throwing more gas during live batting practice session at camp on Thursday. In addition to a triple-digit heater, Susana showed his slider, which made first baseman James Wood look foolish. "I'd rather face Jose A. Ferrer 100 times than that guy," said one unnamed member of the hitting group. "For fear of taking one off the back of my skull." The 20-year-old Dominican isn't going to break camp with the Nationals, but the 6-foot-6, 235-pounder is certainly one to keep an eye on as he continues his development in the minors this year. At High-A and Single-A in 2024, Susana had a 4.34 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 157 K's and 48 walks in 103 2/3 innings. Susana will focus on throwing more strikes on the farm, but he'll be popular in fantasy circles whenever he gets the call to the majors in a regular starting role.

Jarlin Susana On A Roll In Single-A

Washington Nationals pitching prospect Jarlin Susana put together a strong performance for Single-A Fredericksburg on Wednesday. The right-hander tossed five scoreless innings and allowed two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Susana has been racking up strikeouts left and right this season and now has 83 in 56 1/3 innings over his first 14 starts. Although the 20-year-old has 4.47 ERA on the season, he has been lights out over his last 30 innings with 49 strikeouts and two earned runs allowed over that span. The big 6'6 flamethrower was part of the package that the Nationals got back for Juan Soto a few seasons ago and he is proving to be another valuable asset for the Nationals franchise. Susana has yet to pitch about Single-A, but one would think with the way he is pitching that he could receive a promotion to High-A before seasons end. With the way he is trending up, managers in dynasty leagues should strongly consider a look at the right-hander before it is too late.
