Jesus Tinoco to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

Miami Marlins reliever Jesus Tinoco (forearm) is set to undergo surgery to repair his right forearm flexor muscle. The procedure will cost Tinoco the rest of this season and likely a sizable portion of the 2026 campaign. The 30-year-old last pitched June 2 and landed on the 15-day injured list shortly after that outing. Tinoco tried to work his way back, but the Marlins had to shut him down on Aug. 12 when it became clear that he wasn't recovering well the day after throwing. He made 20 appearances for the Marlins in 2025 and went 2-1 with a 5.12 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, 10:8 K:BB, four saves, and four holds over 19 1/3 innings.

Jesus Tinoco Discontinues Throwing Program

Miami Marlins right-handed reliever Jesus Tinoco (forearm) discontinued his throwing program and is undergoing further evaluation, according to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com. Tinoco was having a tough time boucing back arm-wise the day after throwing. It's unclear now when the 30-year-old Venezuelan might be able to return to Miami's bullpen, but this setback means he might not return until the final month of the season in September. Before getting injured, he had posted a bloated 5.12 ERA (3.98 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with a career-high four saves, eight walks and 10 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings over 20 relief appearances in his first full season with the Fish. The Marlins are not going to rush Tinoco back, so there's also the possibility that he doesn't pitch again in the big leagues the rest of the year.

Marlins Acquire Michael Petersen From Atlanta, Move Jesus Tinoco to 60-Day IL

The Miami Marlins announced on Wednesday that they acquired right-hander Michael Petersen from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville. In a corresponding move, the team transferred right-hander Jesus Tinoco (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Petersen made four relief appearances for the Braves this year, allowing three earned runs on seven hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out five in 6 2/3 frames. The 31-year-old has only thrown 26 1/3 innings in the big leagues and has a 5.47 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB in 20 relief appearances. Tinoco has been out since early June with a strained right forearm and won't be eligible to return from the IL until Aug. 5. The Venezuelan reliever had a 5.12 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, a career-high four saves and 10 K's in 19 1/3 innings before his injury.

Jesus Tinoco Nearing Mound Work

Miami Marlins reliever Jesus Tinoco (forearm) is continuing a throwing program he started on June 16 and is "close to getting back on the mound," according to MLB.com. The 30-year-old right-hander was placed on the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain in early June. Before the injury, Tinoco had worked 19 1/3 innings with a 5.12 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 10 strikeouts, and four saves. His 3.26 xERA was significantly lower than his actual number, but his putrid 12.5% strikeout rate was also much worse than the 25.9% K rate he posted in 2024. He could get back in the mix for saves in the Marlins bullpen upon his return. Miami has opted for a committee approach led by breakout right-hander Ronny Henriquez in his absence.

Jesus Tinoco Resumes Throwing Program

Miami Marlins right-hander Jesus Tinoco (forearm) resumed a throwing program on Monday, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. Tinoco is recovering from a strained right forearm that has knocked him out for most of the month of June. The 30-year-old veteran is progressing, though, and will have a chance to come off the 15-day injured list before the All-Star break in mid-July as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks once he resumes facing live hitters. In his first full season in Miami, Tinoco has already recorded a career-high four saves while also sporting a bloated 5.12 ERA (3.95 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 10 strikeouts and eight walks in 19 1/3 innings pitched over 20 appearances. He quickly moved into a high-leverage role for the Fish last year after stops with the Rangers and Cubs. When he returns, he could be in the mix for saves again at the back end of the Marlins' bullpen.

Jesus Tinoco Notches Second Save

Miami Marlins relief pitcher Jesus Tinoco was called upon to hold a three-run lead versus the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. It appears both Calvin Faucher and Anthony Bender were unavailable, so Tinoco got the call to close out this game. Tinoco didn't have any issues as he tossed a perfect ninth inning to record his second save of the season. This is now back-to-back save chances for Tinoco, but fantasy managers shouldn't get too excited. The right-hander doesn't appear to be the primary option for saves and will probably only get occasional chances.

Jesus Tinoco Records First Save Of Season

Miami Marlins relief pitcher Jesus Tinoco threw two perfect frames to record his first save in a 6-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Tinoco didn't allow a baserunner and struck out two. The 29-year-old hasn't pitched in a ton of high-leverage situations this year, with only six holds to his name, but he has been a reliable reliever for the fish. With limited options in their bullpen, Tinoco could be the next guy up. He was also used in the ninth inning in his last appearance against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, giving even more reason to believe this is the guy. Still, there is no confirmation of Tinoco being the closer and the Marlins aren't likely to get many more save chances anyway, so expectations should be tempered. In deeper leagues, though, he may be worth taking a shot on.

Cubs Acquire Jesus Tinoco From Royals

The Chicago Cubs acquired minor-league right-hander Jesus Tinoco from the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. In a corresponding move, the Cubs optioned reliever Daniel Palencia to Triple-A Iowa. The 29-year-old Tinoco has a 4.58 ERA in 57 career major-league games, including nine games with the Texas Rangers in 2024. In his 10 innings pitched out of the bullpen with Texas, he gave up nine earned runs on 11 hits (two homers) while walking seven and striking out nine. At Triple-A Omaha for the Royals, he posted a 4.05 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with a save, 10 strikeouts and one walk in just 6 2/3 innings. Tinoco has a career 4.58 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with one save and an 18.1% strikeout rate in his five major-league seasons. He'll operate as relief depth for the Cubbies and isn't anywhere near the fantasy radar.
