Michael Petersen Traded To Atlanta

The Atlanta Braves acquired relief pitcher Michael Petersen from the Angels on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. He was optioned to Triple-A. This didn't come as a shock, as he had recently been designated for assignment by the Angels. He struggled in 2024 in 16 appearances, posting a 5.95 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks over 19 innings. He was much better in the minors, delivering a 1.64 ERA. Petersen isn't a name to watch for fantasy purposes, but he could see himself in Atlanta's big league bullpen at some point this year.

Angels Designate Michael Petersen For Assignment

The Los Angeles Angels have designated right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen for assignment. This transaction opened a spot for left-handed pitcher Jake Eder, whom the Angels acquired from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations on Monday. Last season, Petersen made his MLB debut and logged 19 2/3 innings in the majors. He posted a 5.95 ERA with a 1.63 WHIP. He tallied just 14 punchouts and served up a high 11 free passes. He spent most of his 2024 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City and posted a stellar 1.64 ERA with a 0.76 WHIP. He tallied 10 saves and held an 8:44 BB:K. Through the early part of the 2025 Triple-A campaign, Petersen tossed one 1/3 inning with Triple-A Salt Lake and allowed two earned runs. Given his success at Triple-A last summer, he may draw interest on waivers.

Angels Claim Michael Petersen Off Waivers From Jays

The Los Angeles Angels claimed right-hander Michael Petersen off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday and designated right-hander Kelvin Caceres for assignment in a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster. Petersen will be on his fourth team of the offseason after being passed around from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins and Blue Jays. The 30-year-old will operate as minor-league pitching depth for the Angels heading into spring training. The former 17th-round pick by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2015 out of Riverside City College made his major-league debut with the Dodgers and Marlins this past season and had a 5.95 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks in 19 2/3 relief innings. Petersen is most likely to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Salt Lake.

Michael Petersen Designated For Assignment

According to Scott Mitchell of TSN Sports, the Toronto Blue Jays designated right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen for assignment. This transaction opened a roster spot for right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer, who the team officially signed on Tuesday. Petersen made his MLB debut last season and logged 19 2/3 innings to the tune of a 5.94 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. He struck out 14 batters and showed poor command as he held a high 12.2 percent walk rate. However, Petersen was effective at the Triple-A level, posting an impressive 1.64 ERA with a 0.76 WHIP across 33 frames. He struck out 44 batters and served up just eight free passes. Even though he only got a brief taste of the majors, he could draw interest on waivers, given his success at Triple-A.

Michael Petersen Claimed By Toronto

The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-handed relief pitcher Michael Petersen off of waivers. Petersen spent the 2024 season with both the Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Across 19 2/3 innings in the big leagues last season, the 30-year-old carried an underwhelming 5.95 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, with a 11:14 BB:K ratio. In Triple-A, Petersen posted a strong 1.64 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and a stellar 8:44 BB:K ratio. He also tallied ten saves. Even though Peterson struggled in the big leagues last season, he showed significant upside in the top level of the minors. Fantasy managers should monitor his progression during Spring Training as he could eventually earn a high-leverage in the Toronto bullpen.
