Kevin Alcantara Recalled from Triple-A Iowa

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday after Owen Caissie (concussion) hit the 7-day injured list with a concussion. The Cubs' fifth-ranked prospect was called up at the beginning of the month and had been sent back down to Triple-A the day before, but with Caissie on the IL, Alcantara will rejoin the big league club. The 23-year-old was rarely used during his time in the majors, recording at-bats in just two games during his two-week stint. Things don't look like they'll be much different this time around, as Alcantara did not start on Sunday, rather, it was Willi Castro who drew the start in right field. The 6-foot-6 slugger has some power, but until he's more involved, he can safely be left to the waiver wire in all leagues.

Owen Caissie Optioned, Kevin Alcantara Recalled

Chicago Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. In a somewhat odd move, the Cubs have decided to send down Caissie after barely using him. The top prospect slashed .208/.240/.375 with one home run and four RBI in 11 games with the Cubs. In a corresponding move, outfielder Kevin Alcantara has been recalled to take his spot on the active roster. This season, Alcantara is slashing .266/.349/.470 with 17 home runs, 69 RBI, and 10 steals in 102 games with Triple-A Iowa. The expectation is that Alcantara will take over Caissie's role as a fourth outfielder in Chicago. There's unlikely to be fantasy value here with the Cubs outfield currently healthy.

Kevin Alcantara Stays Hot with Another Home Run

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara stayed hot at the plate on Thursday as he went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in their contest against Worcester. Over his last six games, the No. 75-ranked prospect in baseball on MLB.com has posted an elite .261/.393/.739 slash line with two doubles and three home runs. After earning a brief three-game taste of the majors in 2024, Alcantara has spent the entire 2025 campaign with the Iowa Cubs. Given Chicago's crowded outfield, fantasy managers should not expect Alcantara to be in the mix to spend his second stint in the majors this season. Through 89 games at Iowa this season, Alcantara has held his own, posting a .258/.344/.472 slash line with 22 doubles, 16 home runs, and nine stolen bases.

Kevin Alcantara Launches Three-Run Homer on Thursday

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in a 6-5 loss against Triple-A St. Paul. Alcantara had been struggling a tad since the calendar flipped to August, with three hits in 16 at-bats to go with seven strikeouts, but belted a homer off left-handed starter Kendry Rojas on Thursday to break the slight cold streak. There has been a noticeable difference in his performance against left-handed pitching compared to right-handers, with a 1.007 OPS against lefties and a .732 OPS against righties. The sample is much smaller, with only 76 plate appearances against southpaws and 231 against righties, but he's seen them quite well this year. The 6'6" outfielder has some swing and miss flaws with a strikeout rate north of 30 percent, but has also flashed an intriguing power and speed skillset with 14 homers and nine steals on the year.

Kevin Alcantara Goes Deep Wednesday

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 10-6 win over Triple-A Omaha. Alcantara slugged his 10th homer of the season and is knocking on the door for 10 stolen bases with nine so far in 282 plate appearances. The 22-year-old is coming off a strong month of June, slashing .306/383/.486 with a 9:22 BB:K. He's consistently made hard contact with a 49 percent hard-hit rate for the year. However, the 6'6" outfielder has some contact issues as he also owns a 30% strikeout rate. The upside is through the roof with Alcantra's power and speed combo, although we are unlikely to see him in the majors this season.

Kevin Alcantara Hits Two Home Runs on Wednesday

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 2-for-3 with two round-trippers during their contest against Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. Alcantara tallied three RBI. Over his last four contests, Alcantara has gone deep three times and tallied eight RBI. However, prior to this stretch, Alcantara carried a 16-game power slump. During this skid, the 22-year-old posted a modest .203/.282/.266 slash line with just four doubles. Through 37 total games at Triple-A Iowa, Alcantara has posted a solid .248/.325/.426 slash line with 10 doubles and five long balls. Last season, the No. 74-ranked prospect in the sport received a brief taste of MLB action and tallied one hit across three games. However, given Chicago's depth in the outfield, Alcantara may have to wait for his first extended look in the major leagues.

Kevin Alcantara Tallies Four Hits On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI during their contest against Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday. This was Alcantara's first round-tripper of the young campaign. Through the first 13 games of the regular season, Alcantara has posted a strong .271/.368/.417 slash line with four doubles. He has swiped two bags and held an 8:20 BB:K. Alcantara enjoyed similar success during his first taste of Triple-A last summer when he posted a .292/.378/.469 slash line with eight doubles and five home runs. Across this 35-game stint, Alcantara swiped seven bags and held a 17:43 BB:K. Even though the Chicago outfield is quite crowded, fantasy managers should expect Alcantara to be in the mix to return to the majors later this summer.

Kevin Alcantara Sent To Triple-A Iowa

The Chicago Cubs have optioned outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara to Triple-A Iowa. Alcantara was in the mix for a spot on the Opening Day roster but will instead begin his season at the top level of the minor leagues. Last season, the 22-year-old made his MLB debut. Across a short three-game stint, the outfielder tallied just one hit. Earlier in the season, he appeared in 76 contests at the Double-A level and posted a .271/.342/.409 line with 13 doubles and nine long balls. He was then promoted to Triple-A, where he held an impressive .292/.378/.492 slash line with eight doubles and five long balls across his first 35 games at that level. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should monitor his progress, as he should return to the majors when the Cubs need additional depth in their outfield. During the start of the regular season, Vidal Brujan will operate as the depth outfielder.

Kevin Alcantara Not Traveling To Tokyo

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara will not travel with the team to Tokyo. While the 22-year-old has not been officially optioned to Triple-A, this suggests he will likely open the 2025 campaign in the minor leagues. Alcantara is one of the top bats in the Chicago system. Last season, he made his brief MLB debut. Across three contests, he tallied just one hit. He spent most of his campaign with Double-A and held a strong .271/.342/.409 slash line with 13 doubles and nine home runs. Across 35 games with Triple-A Iowa, Alcantara held a stellar .292/.378/.469 line with eight doubles and five long balls. While Alcantara has flashed elite upside in the upper levels of the minor leagues, he will have trouble finding time in the majors given the depth in the Chicago outfield. He is worth monitoring in deeper NL-only formats but should not be targeted in any drafts.

Kevin Alcantara Stays Hot With RBI Double On Monday

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Monday's 10-5 Cactus League win over the Padres. He's now 6-for-11 this spring with a pair of doubles and four RBI. The 22-year-old is putting his best foot forward in his audition to make the Cubs roster out of camp, but there isn't room for him in the outfield right now, so a start at Triple-A is more likely rather than having him get sporadic playing time on the bench. At this point, it is only a matter of time until he's roaming the outfield, though, as he'll surely be called upon if one of the regulars gets injured. The Dominican began at Double-A last season, but earned a promotion to Triple-A where he slashed .292/.378/.469 over 35 games (148 PA), then made a three-game cameo with the Cubs at the end of the year. The 6-foot-6 outfielder is ranked 90th overall per MLB.com's Top 100 Prospects list and has the potential to be a 20/20 player if given the proper playing time. Assuming he starts at Triple-A, redraft managers will want to be ready to pounce and grab him off of the waiver wire as soon as he gets the call.
