Leo Rivas Battling Ankle Injury

Seattle Mariners infielder Leo Rivas (ankle) was seen limping during Tuesday's practice session and is viewed as a day-to-day. The team is optimistic the infielder will only miss a few days of practice. Rivas sustained this injury when doing infield drills. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he will likely compete for a depth role on the Opening Day roster. Last season, the 27-year-old made his big league debut and posted a .233/.333/.274 line across 43 contests. He showed a strong eye at the plate as he drew walks at an elite 11.6 percent rate. Earlier in the season, Rivas posted a strong .296/.441/.424 slash line across 63 games at Triple-A. He held an elite 55:51 BB:K ratio and added 24 swiped bags. When cleared to return, he will likely slot in as the No. 2 option behind Dylan Moore at the keystone.

Leo Rivas Records His First Career Hit Sunday

Seattle Mariners shortstop Leo Rivas recorded his first career hit Sunday in a 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old was the 999th player to appear for the Mariners while getting a triple in his first plate appearance. Rivas also made history by being the first Mariner to do so since July 28, 2005, when Yuniesky Betancourt did it against Cleveland. He went 1-for-2 with one triple and one strikeout. He may receive more opportunities this season depending on J.P. Crawford's (oblique) return from a Grade 1 oblique strain. Rivas is mainly a fantasy option in AL-Only Leagues, while Crawford is sidelined.
