Cubs Projecting Regular Playing Time for Owen Caissie

With outfielder Kyle Tucker expected to depart in free agency this offseason, the Chicago Cubs are projecting regular playing time for outfielder Owen Caissie, a consensus top-100 prospect whose name was prominently mentioned in trade talks last offseason, and again during the July 31 trade deadline. The 23-year-old left-handed slugger doesn't have anything left to prove at Triple-A Iowa after posting an .887 OPS and 277 strikeouts in almost 1,000 Triple-A plate appearances in the last two seasons. The Cubs want to see what they have in Caissie while letting him develop and improve at the big-league level. Caissie could be in a battle for regular playing time with fellow prospect Moises Ballesteros. In his first 12 major-league games in 2025, Caissie went 5-for-26 (.192) with a homer, four RBI, and 11 strikeouts. He has plenty of power upside, but the strikeouts are a concern.

Owen Caissie Symptom-Free, Aiming for Breakout 2026 Season

Chicago Cubs rookie outfielder Owen Caissie (concussion) is reportedly symptom-free after suffering a concussion in a September 13 loss to the Rays. The 23-year-old returned to full baseball activities before the end of the season and is now focused on a productive offseason. Caissie's rookie campaign was brief, as he appeared in only 12 games and slashed .192/.222/.346. Ranked as the No. 47 overall prospect, he remains one of Chicago's most promising young talents. With his health restored, Caissie will look to secure a regular role and make a major impact in 2026.

Owen Caissie Exits With Concussion Symptoms on Saturday

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Owen Caissie (concussion) was recalled by the team on Saturday, but in his first game back, the Cubs' top-ranked prospect ran into the wall in the Wrigley outfield chasing down a ball in the third inning. He initially stayed in the game, but left in the sixth inning with concussion symptoms. The 23-year-old was 5-for-14 (.357) in the three games at Triple-A prior to his call-up, and was hitting .286 with 22 home runs on the season, but has yet to translate that success to the majors in his limited playing time. The left-handed slugger will likely head to the injured list, and although it appears he won't be of much use to fantasy managers in 2025, there is still hope for 2026 and beyond.

Owen Caissie Recalled by Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have recalled outfielder Owen Caissie from Triple-A Iowa, optioning outfielder Kevin Alcantara in the corresponding move. One of the organization's top prospects, Caissie had a brief run with Chicago earlier this season and slashed .208/.240/.375 with one home run and four RBI in 25 plate appearances across 11 games. He's mashed in 433 plate appearances at Triple-A, hitting .286 with a .937 OPS and 22 home runs. Caissie may have a chance for more regular playing time this go around in Chicago, with outfielder Kyle Tucker (calf) currently on the 10-day injured list. Caissie is likely battling utility man Willi Castro for playing time in right field until Tucker returns.

Owen Caissie Optioned, Kevin Alcantara Recalled

Chicago Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. In a somewhat odd move, the Cubs have decided to send down Caissie after barely using him. The top prospect slashed .208/.240/.375 with one home run and four RBI in 11 games with the Cubs. In a corresponding move, outfielder Kevin Alcantara has been recalled to take his spot on the active roster. This season, Alcantara is slashing .266/.349/.470 with 17 home runs, 69 RBI, and 10 steals in 102 games with Triple-A Iowa. The expectation is that Alcantara will take over Caissie's role as a fourth outfielder in Chicago. There's unlikely to be fantasy value here with the Cubs outfield currently healthy.

Owen Caissie Hitless in MLB Debut

Chicago Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie struggled at the plate during his MLB debut against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. It wasn't an easy first game for Caissie who faced off against right-hander Max Scherzer to begin the game. Caissie smacked a nice liner to the outfield, but Davis Schneider made a great diving catch to save what would've likely been a double. Caissie finished this game 0-for-4 without any other noteworthy at-bats. It's unclear if Caissie will be in the lineup again on Friday, but figures to get regular playing time in Chicago.

Owen Caissie the DH and Batting Fifth in MLB Debut

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Owen Caissie was officially called up from Triple-A Iowa and is making his major-league debut on Thursday in the series finale in Toronto against the Blue Jays and right-hander Max Scherzer. Caissie will serve as the designated hitter and will bat in the five-hole. Meanwhile, both outfilders Pete Crow-Armstrong and Seiya Suzuki will get the day off in the matinee game. The 23-year-old Caissie hit .291/.391/.567 with 22 home runs in 402 plate appearances at Triple-A to earn his first big-league call-up this week. When everyone is healthy on this Cubs squad, it's hard to envision Caissie getting consistent playing time down the stretch, as the the team also has outfielders Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker locked into everyday roles. However, the Cubs are searching for a spark on offense and are hoping Caissie can give it to them.

Cubs Promoting Owen Caissie to Majors

The Chicago Cubs are promoting outfield prospect Owen Caissie from Triple-A Iowa, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reports. The 23-year-old Canadian will join the Cubs in Toronto on Thursday and could make his debut against the Blue Jays. Chicago acquired Caissie from the San Diego Padres as part of the return for right-hander Yu Darvish in December 2020, and he now ranks as the Cubs' top prospect and the game's 45th-best farmhand at MLB Pipeline. The left-handed hitter earned his way to the majors this year by slashing an excellent .292/.393/.573 with 22 home runs and 52 RBI in 400 plate appearances with Iowa. The Cubs will have to figure out how to distribute outfield/DH playing time with Caissie joining Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Seiya Suzuki, and Ian Happ, but the team has been in a funk lately and could use a jolt. Caissie may be able to provide it.

Owen Caissie Goes Deep on Tuesday

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Owen Caissie went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and an additional run scored against Triple-A Worcester. Caissie belted his 22nd homer of the season and brings his season slash line to an impressive .292/.393/.573 and a 112:53 K:BB ratio in 400 plate appearances. The power numbers have been standout all season for the lefty slugger while also displaying a plus approach. There were talks of him potentially getting moved at the trade deadline, which would have opened up every day playing time for him, but it ultimately didn't happen. An injury would likely need to pop up for Caissie to get a shot at the majors this season. He'd make for a decent speculative add in 15-team formats in that case.

Owen Caissie Remains Red-Hot at Triple-A

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Owen Caissie has continued to produce at an elite level at Triple-A. While Caissie's name was discussed in many potential deals at the trade deadline, the Cubs opted to hold on to their budding outfield star. Over his last 11 games with the Iowa Cubs, the former 45th overall pick has posted an elite .366/.426/.561 slash line with five doubles and a home run. Through 88 total games with the top level of the Cubs' MiLB system this season, Caissie has posted a remarkable .281/.381/.557 slash line with 26 doubles, 20 home runs, and three stolen bases. Fantasy managers should continue to keep a close eye on his status. However, given that the Cubs have a crowded outfield in the major leagues, he will likely need several injuries to find a potential spot on their roster. As a result, he is best to leave on your waiver wire in redraft formats.
