The New York Mets nearly blew a four-run lead Tuesday night at Marlins Park, but managed to escape. With Edwin Diaz unavailable after appearing in a non-save situation Monday night, Justin Wilson was tasked with preserving the lead. By the time the former Chicago Cub entered, the lead was already in peril. He escaped a ninth-inning jam to secure the save. This should ultimately be a very rare situation for the left-hander, with Diaz and Jeurys Familia likely ahead of him in the save situations depth chart.
The New York Mets agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with free-agent relief pitcher Justin Wilson on Friday. Wilson put up a 3.46 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 11.4 K/9 in 54 2/3 innings for the Cubs in 2018. The left-hander will merely be a lefty specialist as a setup guy with his new team in New York ahead of Edwin Diaz and Jeurys Familia, so Wilson won't have much fantasy appeal without any chance for saves.
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Justin Wilson was called on to get the save on Tuesday versus the Dodgers in Game 1 of a doubleheader with a 3-2 lead and failed. Wilson allowed one walk, two hits and two runs to pick up his second loss of the season. Closer Brandon Morrow was unavailable due to back tightness and is considered day-to-day.
