Reiss Knehr To Start Padres' Final Game

San Diego Padres pitcher Reiss Knehr has been named the team's starting pitcher for their final game of the year against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. The 24-year-old has made four starts and seven relief appearances for the Padres this year. He's spent the bulk of the year in the minors, making 19 appearances across Double-A and Triple-A. Over his 11 games with the Padres this year, he has gone 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP and a 1.0 K/BB ratio. He's given up a lot of hard contact (42.9% hard-hit rate) and his 5.33 xERA suggests he's been a bit lucky with his overall results so far.

Reiss Knehr To Make Second Career Start In Game 2

San Diego Padres right-hander Reiss Knehr has been recalled from the minors to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. He will serve as the 27th man for the doubleheader. This will be Knehr's second career major league start after he allowed two earned runs while walking four and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings in his MLB debut on July 9 against the Colorado Rockies at home. The Friars No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has natural strikeout tendencies, but he needs to show better control of his offerings to succeed in longer stints as a starter pitcher at the big league level. Knehr had a 3.90 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 46/22 K/BB in 11 starts at Double-A Antonio this year. The 24-year-old will be a pretty shaky streamer in DFS and season-long leagues in his second major league start.

Reiss Knehr Likely To Start On Tuesday

San Diego Padres right-hander Reiss Knehr is on the team's taxi squad and seems likely to start on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. However, who starts on Tuesday could depend on the weather situation on Monday and Tuesday. Knehr had a decent MLB debut earlier this month against the Colorado Rockies when he allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings in a spot start. The team's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has gone 6-2 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 47/25 K/BB in 58 innings over 12 starts for Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso in the minors in 2021. The right-hander could have a future as a reliever in the big leagues, but for now he'll just be a shaky streaming option in deeper leagues if he starts on Tuesday against a Braves team without Ronald Acuna Jr.

Reiss Knehr Called Up To Start Friday

San Diego Padres pitching prospect Reiss Knehr was called up by the team on Friday and will start in place of Blake Snell(illness) against the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park. Knehr, one of the team's best pitching prospects, was previously pitching at Double-A, where he owned a 3.90 ERA in 55 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old had also accumulated 46 strikeouts compared to 22 walks. Making the jump from Double-A to the majors isn't the easiest thing to do, but Knehr could hold some streaming appeal in deeper leagues if he sticks around after the All-Star break. The Rockies have scored the fewest runs on the road in baseball this season. They also have the league's lowest on-base percentage when on the road.
