Garrett Mitchell Reinstated From The Injured List

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and optioned infielder Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. The Brewers also designated infielder Owen Miller for assignment. It remains to be seen if Mitchell will be in the team's starting lineup on Monday for the series opener at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies, but whenever he gets into a game, it will be his season debut after missing the first three months of 2024 with a fractured finger. There's a crowded outfield already in Milwaukee, so fantasy managers can't expect the former first-rounder to see regular playing time among Christian Yelich, Blake Perkins, Sal Frelick and Jackson Chourio. In 12 minor-league rehab games for Nashville, Mitchell looked good, hitting .318 with four home runs and four steals.

Garrett Mitchell Leaves Rehab Game Early

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hamstring) left Wednesday's rehab game in the ninth inning due to a hamstring injury, according to Jack Stern of the Brewer Fanatic. Mitchell was enjoying a nice game where he tallied two hits including one double and a round-tripper with two RBI. This was Mitchell's tenth game at Triple-A during the stint and 12th overall rehab game. During these rehab games, Mitchell has performed very well with a .298/.411/.596 line. The former UCLA Bruin was nearing a return to the majors but may have to wait a bit longer with this minor setback. Dynasty managers should pay close attention to Michell's status during the weekend.

Garrett Mitchell Hits Inside-The-Park Home Run On Rehab Assignment

Milwaukee Brewers outfield prospect Garrett Mitchell (hand) was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run for Triple-A Nashville on Thursday. On a rehab assignment, Mitchell is hitting .269 with three homers and six RBI in six games for Nashville. The 25-year-old is rounding back into form after missing a good portion of the season with a fractured bone in his left hand. If he has a few more games like the one on Thursday, he should push for a return to Milwaukee soon. His plus speed makes him an intriguing waiver-wire addition in leagues of all sizes upon his return to the Brewers.

Garrett Mitchell Participates In Full Batting Practice

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) has recently participated in full batting practice and will start taking live at-bats soon. Mitchell suffered a fracture to his left index finger earlier in the spring and has been sidelined ever since. However, he has yet to face any setbacks and is nearing the end of his recovery process. The young outfielder has only appeared in 47 games at the major league level across the past two seasons and posted a .278/.315/.446 five home runs, and a 7:26 BB:K ratio. With how well he is progressing, a mid-June return date seems very possible. However, when he does return, he will join a crowded outfield with Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins, Jake Bauers, and Sal Frelick, which will make reliable playing time hard to find. Mitchell is worth adding in NL-only formats but should be left on the waiver wire in shallow leagues.

Garrett Mitchell Eyeing Return In Mid-June

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) will begin taking swings off a tee ahead of Friday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox. The next major steps would be for Mitchell to first log at-bats in the Arizona Complex League and then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment as he progresses from a fractured left index finger. Mitchell's goal is to return to the Brewers during a series against the Los Angeles Angels that begins on June 17. The speedy 25-year-old was in line to be Milwaukee's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter in 2024, and he could still slot into those roles upon his activation from the 60-day injured list. In 47 career major-league games, Mitchell is slashing a formidable .278/.343/.452 with five home runs, five doubles, 16 RBI, and nine stolen bases over 126 ABs. He's a decent stash in NL-only fantasy leagues with most of the club's outfielders struggling besides Christian Yelich.

Garrett Mitchell To Start Swinging A Bat Soon

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) is scheduled to start swinging a bat on the team's current road trip, likely in Boston next weekend from May 24-26, according to manager Pat Murphy. The Brewers have said that Mitchell could return around June 1, so the 25-year-old has from now until then to progress in his rehab and go out on a minor-league rehab assignment. The former first-rounder out of UCLA suffered a fractured finger in spring training action and has been unable to play at all in 2024 to this point. He played in just 19 major-league games last year due to a season-ending shoulder injury, too, so Mitchell has had some bad luck with injuries early in his career. In 47 major-league games since 2022 with the Brew Crew, Mitchell has hit .278/.343/.452 with five homers, 16 RBI and nine stolen bases. Milwaukee has a crowded outfield picture as things stand now, so Mitchell's role is to be determined once he makes his 2024 debut.

Garrett Mitchell Hoping To Return By June 1

Milwaukee Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said that outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) is hoping to return around June 1. Mitchell suffered a fractured left index finger at the end of spring training and was originally given a four- to six-week timetable for a return back in late March. The former 20th overall pick in 2020 out of UCLA didn't get a chance to showcase his power/speed combination last year, as he ended up playing in just 19 games due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. There remains plenty of long-term upside with Mitchell, but injuries have gotten in the way so far, and it doesn't help that Milwaukee's outfield is stacked. The 25-year-old deserves to be stashed at least in deep-mixed leagues. Until he's able to return, Sal Frelick and Blake Perkins should benefit from playing time in the outfield next to Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio.

Garrett Mitchell Healing As Expected

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) had an X-ray on Wednesday morning that showed his fractured left finger has not shifted and is healing as expected. The news keeps Mitchell on a four- to six-week timeframe for a return. Mitchell suffered the fractured finger late in spring training, another injury setback early in his career after he missed most of 2023 when he needed surgery on his shoulder. The 25-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2020 out of UCLA is most likely to make his 2024 debut in early May, barring any setbacks, but regular playing time is probably going to be an issue in Milwaukee's stacked outfield. His first-round pedigree alone, though, makes him worth stashing in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues. Mitchell hit .246 (16-for-65) with three homers and seven RBI in just 19 games last year.

Garrett Mitchell Will Miss 6-8 Weeks

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy said on Wednesday that outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) will miss six to eight weeks due to a fractured finger on his left hand. The good news for Mitchell is that his injured digit won't require surgery at this time. Mitchell thought his finger was fine the other day before undergoing X-rays, but that won't be the case. It's a tough blow for the 25-year-old, who only managed to appear in 19 games for the Brew Crew last year due to a left-shoulder injury that required surgery. The former first-round pick from UCLA shouldn't be out nearly as long this time around as he was in 2023. In a crowded outfield picture in Milwaukee, Mitchell figures to be on the strong side of a platoon in right field in 2024 when he's able to return from his injury. In the meantime, Sal Frelick will likely see most of the starts in right.

Garrett Mitchell To Be Placed On Injured List

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hand) is going to open the regular season on the injured list. This is a tough break after Mitchell recently underwent X-rays on his hand that swelled up on him. The X-rays revealed that Mitchell suffered a fracture in his left hand, which is going to cost him some time. The organization has not given a timetable for Mitchell, but they likely will in the coming weeks. The loss of Mitchell means that Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Sam Frelick will open the season as the starting outfielders in Milwaukee.
