Garrett Mitchell is Returning to the Lineup on Saturday

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (illness) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the New York Yankees. Mitchell was scratched ahead of Wednesday's contest due to an illness. He was held out of the starting lineup on Friday, but came in the game after Brandon Lockridge (knee) exited the contest. Mitchell is now ready to return to the starting lineup for Saturday's contest. He'll cover center field and bat seventh versus right-hander Cam Schlittler. Mitchell has struggled against right-handed pitching this season and isn't anything more than a deep league option right now.

Garrett Mitchell Scratched on Wednesday With Illness

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (illness) has been scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals due to an illness, according to the team. Jackson Chourio will take over in center field and will bat second, while Tyler Black is starting in left field and hitting out of the seven-hole versus Cardinals right-hander Andre Pallante. The Brewers have a scheduled day off on Thursday for travel, so Mitchell could be ready to rejoin the starting nine at home for Friday's series opener against the visiting New York Yankees at American Family Field. Mitchell, 27, has struggled at the plate so far in 2026, hitting just .219 (21-for-96) with one home run, 21 RBI, five stolen bases, and 15 runs scored in 32 games played. He hasn't reached his true power/speed potential in the big leagues with the Brew Crew, having not played more than 69 games due to injuries since debuting in Milwaukee in 2022. Because of his slow start, Mitchell is only rostered in 10% of Yahoo leagues right now.

Garrett Mitchell Worth Adding After Recent Hot Stretch?

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell is quickly becoming one of the most popular additions off the waiver wire after hitting .318 (7-for-22) with a home run and 10 RBI over his last eight games. Overall, Mitchell is slashing .281/.425/.469 with a home run, 13 RBI, and a .411 wOBA over 40 plate appearances. His BB% has improved drastically, rising from 9% last summer to 17.9%, while his hard-hit percentage has increased from 42.2% to 58.8%. Mitchell is worth adding in leagues with 12 teams or more after his recent stretch. The 27-year-old is widely available, as he's rostered in just 17% of Yahoo leagues. Mitchell is currently ranked 53rd in the latest RotoBaller waiver wire rankings and is quickly becoming a popular waiver wire add after his torrid stretch.

Garrett Mitchell Off To Hot Start; Priority Waiver Target On The Rise

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell is off to a hot start this season and has become a priority waiver wire target as he continues his early success. The 27-year-old is hitting .318 with a 1.014 OPS in eight games, showing an increase in power numbers early. Four of Mitchell's seven hits have gone for extra bases, and his average exit velocity sits at 98.4 mph, which ranks in the 99th percentile league-wide. This uptick in power has led to 11 RBI, and his strong production early is expected to create more opportunities moving forward.

Garrett Mitchell Drives in Five in Win Over Royals

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell was the team's offense in a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a home run, five RBI, and two strikeouts. Mitchell had a two-run double in the first inning and a three-run homer in the third inning to drive in all of the team's runs. The former UCLA star is off to a fine start in 2026, going 6-for-18 (.333) with a home run, 10 RBI, and three stolen bases. The 27-year-old has always had tantalizing power/speed upside after Milwaukee took him with the 20th overall pick in 2020, but he has never been able to reach his true potential due to injuries. Mitchell made his MLB debut in 2022 but has never played in more than 69 games in his four seasons. If he can stay healthy in 2026, fantasy managers would be sitting pretty. In 146 regular-season games, Mitchell has hit .336/.431/.766 with 13 homers, 45 RBI, and 26 stolen bases in 461 plate appearances.

Garrett Mitchell, Brandon Lockridge to Platoon in Center Field

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy announced on Monday that center field will be a platoon between Garrett Mitchell and Brandon Lockridge to begin the 2026 season. Mitchell, who hits from the left side, will be on the strong side of the platoon and will face right-handed pitchers. The 27-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2020 out of UCLA has a much higher fantasy ceiling than Lockridge because of his power/speed upside. He's been unable to stay on the field so far in his major-league career, though, so perhaps being in a platoon will help him in that regard. In his 443 big-league plate appearances since debuting in Milwaukee in 2022, Mitchell has hit .254/.333/.433 with a .766 OPS, 13 home runs, 40 RBI, 61 runs, and 40 stolen bases in 141 games played. Fantasy managers will be hoping that his rough spring training showing (.063 average, 19 strikeouts in 11 games) won't carry over to the regular season. Lockridge, on the other hand, has hit .317 with four homers and nine RBI in 14 Cactus League games. Expect him to serve in more of a super-utility role in his first full year in Milwaukee.

Garrett Mitchell Fully Healthy This Spring

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) said that he received full clearance for baseball activities in early February, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Mitchell is a full-go in camp after having a second surgery on his left shoulder that limited him to just 25 games last season. The 27-year-old UCLA product was a first-rounder (20th overall) in 2020, but he just hasn't been able to stay on the field due to injuries. Mitchell hasn't played in more than 69 contests in a single season since debuting in the big leagues in 2022. In his four years with the Brewers, he's combined to hit .254/.333/.433 with a .766 OPS, 13 home runs, 40 RBI, 61 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases in 141 games and 443 plate appearances. Mitchell should have a role in Milwaukee's outfield if he can stay healthy, and there is still enough power and speed in his profile to make him a worthwhile deep-league stash.

Garrett Mitchell has Successful Shoulder Surgery

According to Milwaukee Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy, outfielder Garrett Mitchell's shoulder surgery went as planned on Tuesday. There had previously been hope that he would play late this season, but after further deliberation, it is likely that Mitchell's season is over, Pat Murphy said. At this point, it appears Mitchell will do his best to be ready for Spring Training in 2026, as the injury is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the 2025 season. It was a bit of a lost season for Mitchell, as he slashed a poor .206/.286/.294 in 68 at-bats this season after slashing .255/.342/.469 in 2024. Mitchell is still only 26 years old and was a former first-round pick, so he is worth a hold in dynasty formats. Isaac Collins and Jake Bauers are the most likely suitors to step into the third outfield spot behind Sal Frelick and Jackson Chourio.

Garrett Mitchell Out for the Rest of the Season

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) had left-shoulder-stabilization surgery on Tuesday and will miss the rest of the 2025 season, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg. It's the second time that Mitchell will have surgery on his left shoulder, and his goal will now be to get ready for the start of the 2026 campaign. The 26-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2020 out of UCLA just has not been able to stay healthy since making his major-league debut back in 2022, as he hasn't played over 69 games in a single season in Milwaukee. While Mitchell has displayed intriguing power and speed when healthy for the Brewers, this latest injury setback could have dynasty/keeper managers cutting the cord. Not helping Mitchell's cause in Milwaukee is the fact that they have plenty of outfield depth.

Garrett Mitchell to Undergo Shoulder Surgery

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) will undergo surgery on his ailing left shoulder on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. His timeline to return is unclear, but Brewers manager Pat Murphy is hopeful that Mitchell will be able to play again this season. The 26-year-old originally landed on the 10-day injured list on April 26 with a strained left oblique. He was on his way back from that before suffering the shoulder injury on a minor league rehab assignment last week. Mitchell is now set for his second left shoulder procedure after previously going under the knife in April 2023. This has been a lost season to this point for Mitchell, who hit .206/.286/.394 in 78 homer-less plate appearances before going on the IL. He won't have a chance to improve on those numbers for the foreseeable future.
