Sal Frelick News
Milwaukee Brewers rookie outfielder Sal Frelick is playing center field and batting fifth in the order for his playoff debut on Tuesday in Game 1 of the wild-card series against the Arizona Diamondbacks and rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt. Tyrone Taylor is in right field and is hitting in the nine-hole for the Brew Crew. In his first 57 major-league games this year, Frelick hit .246/.341/.351 with only three home runs, 24 RBI, seven stolen bases and 29 runs scored in 223 plate appearances. The 23-year-old left-handed hitter really struggled down the stretch, though, and is limping into the playoffs. Frelick went hitless in 17 trips to the plate with four strikeouts in his last five games (four starts) of the regular season. He has never faced Pfaadt yet in his big-league career.
Milwaukee Brewers rookie outfielder Sal Frelick is taking a seat on the bench on Tuesday with the team facing left-hander Justin Steele and the Chicago Cubs. Joey Wiemer is playing center field for the Brewers and is hitting in the sixth spot in the batting order against Steele. Frelick missed some time last week with a hamstring injury and has also only had eight plate appearances against left-handers in his first major-league season. In his first 88 big-league at-bats, the 23-year-old is hitting .250/.378/.409 with three home runs, five doubles, 19 RBI, five stolen bases and 18 runs scored in his 111 trips to the plate. Wiemer has hit only .212 (73-for-345), but he's also produced 13 home runs and 11 stolen bases in part-time duty.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres. The 23-year-old will make his return to the lineup after missing each of the last four games due to a hamstring issue. Frelick will cover center field and bat cleanup on Saturday versus right-hander Pedro Avila. The left-handed slugger is slashing .250/.388/.421 with three home runs and 16 RBI in his first 26 games in the big leagues. Fantasy managers who have Frelick rostered can get him back in their lineups on Saturday.

Sal Frelick is one of the best pure hitters in the minor leagues. In each of his two minor leagues seasons, the former Boston College star has hit around .330 with an OBP of just over .400. Overall, in 731 plate appearances, Frelick has racked up 36 steals, 36 doubles, and 13 home runs with a .331/.406/.476 slash line. While there's not a ton of power in the profile, Frelick has enough to eclipse double-digit home runs annually while potentially standing out in three categories. As mentioned above, Frelick is an elite pure hitter that has a realistic chance of hitting above .300 for his career with over 20 steals annually and plenty of runs scored while hitting near or at the top of Milwaukee's lineup. If everything clicks, we could be looking at a Tommy Edman clone with the skills to provide a higher AVG and OBP. At the moment, Garrett Mitchell appears to be receiving the first crack at the center field gig, and Joey Wiemer is lurking as well. Still, Frelick's bat is Major League ready and we should see him in Milwaukee's lineup relatively early this season.
