Is Antonio Senzatela Still the Top Source of Saves in Colorado?

Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela has hit a bit of a rough patch in recent outings, allowing five earned runs over his last 4 2/3 innings (four appearances). Still, the 31-year-old has largely been a revelation after being moved to the bullpen full-time in 2026. Across 39 1/3 innings (21 games) in 2026, Senzatela has recorded a 6-0 record with a 2.29 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 32 strikeouts, and three saves. While he doesn't offer much swing-and-miss upside relative to other top closer options, Senzatela is averaging 97.3 miles per hour on his fastball and appears to have taken over as the Rockies' preferred option in the ninth inning. Senzatela is currently in the final guaranteed year of his contract with Colorado (club option for $14 million in 2027), so fantasy managers should be aware that he could easily be moved before this year's trade deadline. For now, the veteran could be worth targeting on the waiver wire for fantasy managers in need of saves.

Antonio Senzatela Still Worth Rostering After Struggles in June?

Colorado Rockies veteran right-hander Antonio Senzatela has looked like a different pitcher this year after being moved to a relief role. In his first 16 outings out of the bullpen in 2026 through May, Senzatela had a 1.36 ERA (3.23 FIP) with 26 strikeouts, nine walks, a 4-0 record, three saves, and two holds. The 31-year-old Venezuelan hurler is being hit hard by regression so far in June, though, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out six in 5 1/3 innings pitched in four appearances. He's gone 2-0 in those outings, but he's blown three saves, including on Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs at Coors Field in an eventual 3-2 victory. All three of his blown saves on the season have come in his last four appearances. Overall, Senzatela is still 6-0 with a 2.11 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, three saves, and 32 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings pitched, but his 3.39 FIP shows that more regression is likely in store. The Venezuelan hurler has just a 7.5 K/9, which isn't ideal for a late-inning arm. A likely trade candidate this summer, Senzatela isn't a must-roster reliever despite his shiny surface stats.

Antonio Senzatela "as Good as Gone" as Trade Candidate This Year

ESPN's Jeff Passan writes that Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela is a "no-brainer" trade candidate this year and is "as good as gone" since he'll be a free agent after the 2026 season. Passan adds that the Rockies are still years away from contending, and "nobody on their roster is untouchable." In addition to Senzatela, outfielder Mickey Moniak (ankle) and catcher Hunter Goodman could also be moved by early August, at the right price. Other players that could attract interest at this year's trade deadline include infielders TJ Rumfield, Troy Johnston, and Willi Castro, starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano, and relievers Brennan Bernardino and Jaden Hill. Senzatela, in particular, has gone from a terrible starting pitcher to one of the best relievers in the game this season. The 31-year-old Venezuelan hurler and 10-year veteran is currently sporting a 5-0 record, 1.30 ERA (3.30 FIP), 0.89 WHIP, three saves, and a 26:10 K:BB in 34 2/3 innings out of the 'pen. Senzatela has an xwOBA of .283 and an expected ERA of 3.17, so regression is expected the rest of the way.

Is Antonio Senzatela the Closer to Roster in Colorado?

Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela has been one of the more surprising and effective relievers in baseball this season after transitioning from the rotation to the bullpen. The veteran has posted a 1.30 ERA and 0.89 WHIP with 26 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings while picking up three saves. After struggling mightily as a starter in 2025 (holding an overall 6.65 ERA across 130 frames), Senzatela has found a new role in high-leverage situations. He's been used in multi-inning appearances and has also closed games for the Rockies in recent weeks, earning two saves over his last 10 appearances. A move to a winning team ahead of the trade deadline could also boost his save opportunities if he were to join a club that lacks a proven ninth-inning option. For managers in need of saves in deeper leagues, he remains a worthwhile addition as he is emerging as the preferred ninth-inning option in Colorado over Juan Mejia.

Antonio Senzatela Becoming Viable Waiver-Wire Add for Saves

Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela continues to trend upward in the back end of the bullpen and is becoming a speculative waiver wire target for saves. The closer role in Colorado has largely been a committee effort, but Senzatela's production has stood out. The veteran owns a 1.13 ERA with a dominant 0.78 WHIP, positioning himself for more high-leverage opportunities moving forward. With Victor Vodnik and Jimmy Herget currently on the injured list, Senzatela is tied for the team lead among active pitchers with three saves. He has quietly become one of the Rockies' most reliable bullpen arms, and fantasy managers searching for saves should monitor him closely as opportunities continue to open up in Colorado.

Antonio Senzatela Earns Third Save, Worth Adding in Deep Leagues?

Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Antonio Senzatela pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third save of the season on Saturday. The right-hander gave up a hit and a walk, but was able to keep the Arizona Diamondbacks off the scoreboard. This marked his first save of the season, where Senzatela didn't need to pitch more than one inning. Senzatela has looked great in his new role out of the bullpen. He's sporting a 1.27 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and a 25:8 K:BB ratio across 28.1 innings of work. Victor Vodnik has struggled lately, so it wouldn't be shocking to see the Rockies turn to Senzatela more frequently. The veteran right-hander could be worth adding in deep leagues right now.

Antonio Senzatela to Stay in Relief Role Next Year

Colorado Rockies interim manager Warren Schaefer revealed that right-hander Antonio Senzatela will be "viewed as a reliever" going into the 2026 season, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. After having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2023, Senzatela struggled in 2025, going 4-15 with a 6.65 ERA in 30 appearances (23 starts). The 30-year-old battled an ongoing blister issue on his right middle finger and had a rough 7.42 ERA as a starter, which led Colorado to move him to the bullpen in late August. He was much better as a reliever, posting a 2.86 ERA with 14 strikeouts and nine walks in seven appearances out of the bullpen. In his career as a reliever, Senzatela has a 3.86 ERA in 33 appearances. Senzatela also threw the five fastest pitches of his career in a Sept. 7 relief appearance against the Padres. A return to the rotation may not be out of the question, but for now, it looks like Senzatela has become a long reliever for one of the worst teams in baseball.

Rockies Move Antonio Senzatela to the Bullpen

The Colorado Rockies moved right-hander Antonio Senzatela to the bullpen on Tuesday, Christian Saez of TheDNVR.com reports. Senzatela has struggled mightily as a starter this season, posting a career-worst 7.15 ERA through 112 innings. His 1.90 WHIP and 61/42 K/BB do not get much better, either. At this time, it's unclear who will take Senzatela's place in the rotation, but he was slated to start Thursday against the Houston Astros. Senzatela is likely to be in a long-relief role, rather than a late-inning, high-leverage reliever, which will only minimize his fantasy value even more in leagues that prioritize saves and holds. Fantasy managers looking for relief options will want to look elsewhere, as Senzatela has not only struggled this year, but also pitches in the most hitter-friendly ballpark in the majors in Coors Field.

Antonio Senzatela Returning on Sunday

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela (finger) is expected to be activated off the injured list and start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Senzatela has been on the shelf since August 2 due to a blister on his finger. He was only forced to miss the minimum of 15 days due to the injury. Senzatela has been horrible with a 7.34 ERA, 1.91 WHIP, and a 55/38 K/BB ratio across 22 appearances this season. There's no reason to stream him for Sunday's game.

Antonio Senzatela is Placed on the 15-Day Injured List with a Blister

The Colorado Rockies placed right-handed pitcher Antonio Senzatela (finger) on the 15-day injured list with a right middle finger blister. The designation to the injured list comes one day after he was shelled for eight earned runs in 2/3 of an inning against the Pirates. It is unclear if his blistered finger was the reason for his recent struggles, but he will miss at least two weeks of action nonetheless. Over 103 innings pitched this season, the 30-year-old has posted a 7.34 ERA, a 1.91 WHIP, all while striking out just 55 batters. He can remain on the waiver wire in most leagues.
