Joey Ortiz Reinstated and Starting on Monday

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated infielder Joey Ortiz (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Monday, and he's starting at shortstop and batting ninth for Monday's series opener against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Taijuan Walker at American Family Field. Ortiz's return from the IL will push Andruw Monasterio back to a utility role in Milwaukee. The 27-year-old Ortiz has been better offensively in the second half of the season, but overall he's still not much of a fantasy weapon, outside of deep-mixed and NL-only formats. The former fourth-rounder by the Baltimore Orioles in 2019 out of New Mexico State will return to a .233/.284/.328 slash line, seven home runs, 43 RBI, 56 runs and 11 stolen bases in 400 at-bats. Ortiz has gone hitless in just two career at-bats versus Walker. Stay away from him in DFS.

Joey Ortiz on Track to Return Next Week

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz (hamstring) said on Thursday morning that he's running at around 100 percent and is on track to return for the series against the Texas Rangers that starts on Monday, Sept. 1, after a minimum stay on the 10-day injured list. It's possible that Ortiz does not have to go on a minor-league rehab assignment, but if he does, it will be a short one this weekend. The 27-year-old is rehabbing a minor left-hamstring strain and should be back as the Brewers' starting shortstop next week. Ortiz has an excellent glove at the 6 but is a better real-life player than a fantasy one. His biggest contribution on offense for fantasy managers in 2025 has been his 11 stolen bases in 125 games. Otherwise, he's hit a mediocre .233/.284/.328 with a weak .612 OPS, seven home runs, 43 RBI and 56 runs scored.

Joey Ortiz Hopeful for Minimal Injured List Stint

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz (hamstring) was able to field grounders ahead of Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The organization is hopeful that Ortiz will only be forced to miss the minimum 10 days on the injured list. Ortiz landed on the shelf last Thursday due to a left hamstring strain. The fact he is already on the field doing work is a good sign. He'll still need to ramp up and do some running and hitting before being cleared to return. However, fantasy managers can be hopeful to have Ortiz back in the mix by early September.

Joey Ortiz Goes on Injured List With Strained Hamstring

The Milwaukee Brewers are placing shortstop Joey Ortiz (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a left-hamstring strain, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB. com. In a corresponding move, the team activated first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers (shoulder) from the injured list. Ortiz will need to miss at least the next 10 days after straining his hamstring running out a ground ball in Thursday's series finale against the Chicago Cubs. In the 27-year-old's absence, Andruw Monasterio and Brice Turang will be the primary options to handle the 6 for the Brew Crew. Monasteerio is starting at short in Friday's series opener versus the visiting San Francisco Giants. Ortiz has been money on defense for the first-place Brewers, but outside of some modest speed (11 steals), he's not much to look at in fantasy. He's slashed .233/.284/.328 with a weak .612 OPS, seven homers and 43 RBI in 125 games.

Joey Ortiz Leaves with Hamstring Injury

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Joey Ortiz (hamstring) was forced to make an early exit from Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Ortiz suffered a left hamstring injury when grounding out in the fifth inning. He finished this game 1-for-2 with a single. The assumption is that he'll undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. For now, fantasy managers should consider Ortiz as day-to-day until more information is revealed. Andruw Monasterio took over at shortstop and figures to see increased playing time if Ortiz is forced to miss time. Fantasy managers should check back on Friday for another update.

Joey Ortiz Will Not Play Wednesday Due To Bruised Knee, Stomach Issues

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz (knee, stomach) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Cubs due to a right knee bruise and stomach issues, per manager Pat Murphy. Ortiz fouled a ball off of his knee in the seventh inning of Tuesday's Game 2's 4-1 loss to the Cubs and was replaced defensively in the bottom half of the inning by Andruw Monasterio. Ortiz went 1-for-5 with a single, a walk, and a strikeout across both games. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative, and it sounds like the 27-year-old is day-to-day, although fantasy managers should keep an eye out for more news on Wednesday. Ortiz's offensive season stats are not impressive, but he has put together an excellent August with a .354/.400/.462 slash line and two stolen bases.

Joey Ortiz Back in Tuesday's Lineup

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz will rejoin the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Ortiz had ridden the pine for the previous two outings as the Brew Crew lined up against right-handed pitching, but he'll return to the starting nine with southpaw Clayton Kershaw toeing the rubber. Teammate Andruw Monasterio had gotten the start at shortstop in their last two contests, and could become the preferred option against righties with Ortiz hitting an ugly .198 off of them. It's worth noting that Monasterio's average against left-handers (.231) is comparable to that of Ortiz (.235), but the latter shouldn't be in danger of losing his job just yet.

Joey Ortiz Hits Grand Slam on Wednesday

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz had a productive day in his team's Wednesday doubleheader against the New York Mets. In the first game of the twin bill, Ortiz went 1-for-4 with a grand slam. He later went hitless but added an RBI in the second game. Ortiz broke a 2-2 tie with his first career grand slam in the sixth inning, a shot with an exit velocity of 101.8 MPH. The veteran shortstop is having a tough season, hitting just .208 with six homers, 34 runs, 26 RBI, and nine steals across 269 at-bats. Ortiz will need to show more consistency at the plate to be considered as a fantasy option outside of the deepest leagues.

Joey Ortiz Launches Two Big Flies on Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz clobbered a pair of home runs on Tuesday, leading the way to a 9-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ortiz smashed a two-run shot in the third inning, then a solo bomb in the fourth, both off of Pirates starter Andrew Heaney. He also had an RBI groundout in the eighth, bringing his total to four on the day. The 26-year-old has struggled mightily for the most part this season, but he has been turning things around at the dish over the last week or so. He is 13-for-30 with two homers and eight RBI over his last seven games. That said, he still holds pretty awful numbers for the season, as he is now hitting .217 with 31 runs, four homers, 18 RBI, and eight steals. Ortiz is still a ways off from even being a consideration for fantasy managers.

Joey Ortiz Starting On The Bench Again

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Joey Ortiz is on the bench again for Wednesday's series finale against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. Andruw Monasterio is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams. Ortiz has been on the bench in two of the last three games against right-handed pitchers. The 26-year-old could continue to lose playing time with the Brew Crew if he doesn't pick it up offensively soon. Through his first 139 at-bats in 2025, Ortiz has struggled to a .173/.228/.223 slash line with a home run, six RBI, four steals, 15 runs, nine walks and 23 strikeouts in 151 plate appearances. Monasterios is hitless in his three at-bats this year and has never faced Williams in his career. In the eight-hole on Wednesday, DFS managers should be ignoring him.
