Quinn Priester to Have Season-Ending Surgery

After consulting with Dr. Gregory Pearl, Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (rib) has decided to have season-ending first-rib-removal surgery, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Priester expects to be out for eight to 10 months before returning to 100% health. Priester will have thoracic outlet compression surgery on Monday after dealing with symptoms since last year. He attempted to pitch through it in 2026, but he was unsuccessful on those attempts and went 0-5 with a 15.75 ERA, 2.87 WHIP, and 18:24 K:BB in 16 innings across eight starts in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and with High-A Wisconsin and Triple-A Nashville. It will end up being a lost season for Priester, who looked good in his first year in Milwaukee in 2025, when he went 13-3 with a 3.32 ERA (4.01 FIP), 1.24 WHIP, and 132:50 K:BB in 157 1/3 innings across 29 outings (24 starts). The former 18th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019 is hoping to be fully ready for the start of the 2027 season, but this isn't a condition that is easy to return from.

Quinn Priester has Follow-Up Visit With Surgeon on Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder) had a follow-up visit with thoracic surgeon Dr. Gregory Pearl on Tuesday to re-establish a plan of care, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Priester has been pulled off his minor-league rehab assignment multiple times due to reduced velocity and continued discomfort as he tries to battle his way back from thoracic outlet symptoms. At this point, it appears that the 26-year-old is trending toward needing season-ending surgery, but nothing is official yet. In his eight rehab starts in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, at High-A Wisconsin, and at Triple-A Nashville, Priester has surrendered 28 earned runs on 22 hits (one homer) while walking 24 and striking out 18 in 16 innings pitched. Priester was set to be part of Milwaukee's starting rotation again in 2026 after going 13-3 in 2025 with a 3.32 ERA (4.01 FIP), 1.24 WHIP, and 132:50 K:BB in 157 1/3 innings over 29 outings (24 starts) in his first year with the Brew Crew. He's now rostered in only 12% of Yahoo leagues.

Quinn Priester Returned From his Rehab Assignment

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder), who had been pitching in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, has been returned from his minor-league rehab assignment and remains on the 60-day injured list, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Priester hasn't really had any luck trying to battle through symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome, and this could be the final straw before the Brewers have him undergo season-ending surgery. The 25-year-old's velocity has been way down, and he's had trouble commanding the baseball while pitching in the minor leagues. In eight rehab starts in the ACL and for High-A Wisconsin and Triple-A Nashville, Priester has allowed 28 earned runs on 22 hits (one homer) while walking 24 and striking out only 18 in 16 innings pitched. It's unclear what the next step is for Priester, but it's beginning to look more and more unlikely that he'll be able to help Milwaukee out in 2026. He's rostered in just 13% of Yahoo leagues and can probably be cut in more formats.

Quinn Priester Moving his Rehab to Arizona Complex League

After struggling in the higher levels of the minor leagues on his rehab assignment, Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder) is being moved to the Arizona Complex League as he attempts to return from thoracic outlet syndrome, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Doctors continue to believe that Priester won't need surgery to relieve the symptoms of TOS, a condition in which the nerves running down his neck and into his arm and torso are compressed. Surgery would end Priester's season and would put him in jeopardy of being ready for 2027 as well. The 25-year-old former first-rounder by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019 hasn't had much success in seven rehab starts so far, allowing a whopping 25 earned runs on 21 hits while walking 19 and striking out 14 in 13 1/3 innings. Priester's velocity is not only down, but he's struggling with his control on the mound. He couldn't make it out of the first inning in two of his rehab outings. There's no timetable for Priester's return, and if he continues to struggle in the ACL, surgery might be on the table. Priester is rostered in just 15% of Yahoo leagues at this juncture.

Quinn Priester Only Goes Two-Thirds of an Inning in Latest Rehab Start

It was another disappointing showing for Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder) in his latest minor-league rehab outing with Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday. Priester allowed three earned runs on two hits while walking three and striking out one in just two-thirds of an inning for the Sounds. The Brewers went into Wednesday's appearance hoping that Priester would go five innings and/or 80 to 85 pitches, so he came well short of expectations. The 25-year-old former first-rounder back in 2019 by the Pittsburgh Pirates, needed 38 pitches on Wednesday and couldn't even get out of the first inning. He has been pretty awful in both of his separate rehab starts while trying to recover from symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome, and it wouldn't be a surprise at this point if Priester gets shut down again at some point. Through six rehab starts on the farm, he's posted a horrific 21.60 ERA and 3.60 WHIP with 10 strikeouts and 17 walks. It's getting harder and harder to justify holding him in deeper fantasy leagues. Priester is rostered in 16% of Yahoo leagues.

Quinn Priester to Make his Next Rehab Start on Wednesday

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder) will make his next minor-league rehab start on Wednesday with Triple-A Nashville and is scheduled for five ups or 80 to 85 pitches, according to Brewer Fanatic's Jack Stern. Priester recently restarted a rehab assignment with Nashville last week and didn't look great, allowing five earned runs on five hits while walking three in three innings. It was an improvement over the 26-year-old's previous start with High-A Wisconsin, though, when he surrendered seven earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings of work. It's good news that Priester will ramp up his workload this week, but the former first-rounder's results in the minors as he works his way back from thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms haven't been very encouraging. In five rehab starts, he has an eye-popping 20.25 ERA and 3.32 WHIP with nine strikeouts and 14 walks in 9 1/3 frames. Until Priester can get his control in check, he won't be an attractive stash candidate for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. He's currently rostered in only 16% of Yahoo leagues.

Quinn Priester Gives Up Five Runs in Latest Rehab Start

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder) was hit around again during his minor-league rehab outing on Thursday with Triple-A Nashville, giving up five earned runs on five hits while walking three and striking out two in three innings of work to take his third loss in the minors for Nashville. In his previous rehab appearance at High-A Wisconsin last weekend, Priester surrendered seven runs in just 1 1/3 innings pitched. Although he was a bit better on Thursday, his velocity was still down a few ticks as he tries to work his way back from thoracic outlet symptoms in his hand and shoulder. It's unclear how many more rehab starts Priester will need before potentially coming off the 15-day injured list for his 2026 season debut with the Brewers, but right now, he doesn't appear to be close to being major-league-ready. The 25-year-old former first-rounder by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019 had his best year in the big leagues in 2025 in his first year in Milwaukee, but he doesn't appear to be the same pitcher right now. Priester is rostered in only 17% of Yahoo leagues.

Quinn Priester Slated For Rehab Start at Triple-A on Thursday

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Quinn Priester (shoulder) is scheduled to make his next rehab appearance with Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, per MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Priester has yet to pitch in the big leagues in 2026 as he works his way back from symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. The 25-year-old was roughed up in his most recent rehab outing at High-A on Saturday, allowing seven earned runs across just 1 1/3 innings of work. Nevertheless, Milwaukee has apparently seen what it needed to see to push Priester to the next step of his progression. Priester had a breakout campaign with the Brewers in 2025, posting a 13-3 record with a 3.32 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 132 strikeouts across 157 1/3 innings (29 games, 24 starts). Milwaukee has a deep pitching staff and could be getting veteran starter Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) back from the injured list in short order, so Priester is not a lock to immediately rejoin the rotation. Fantasy managers should monitor Priester's progress closely as he continues his rehab.

Quinn Priester to Restart a Rehab Assignment on Saturday

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder) threw a 50-pitch bullpen session on Monday and is scheduled to restart a minor-league rehab assignment on Saturday, per MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Priester is aiming to return to the majors in early June. The 25-year-old has had a difficult time trying to recover from thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms so far this year and has been unable to join Milwaukee's starting rotation after going 13-3 with a 3.32 ERA (4.01 FIP), 1.24 WHIP, and 132:50 K:BB in 157 1/3 innings over 29 appearances (24 starts) in his first year with the team in 2025. He was pulled from his rehab assignment earlier this month due to soreness in his right shoulder, although he's been feeling good of late and is ready to pitch in games again. In his three rehab starts, Priester had a nightmarish 16.20 ERA with eight walks and five strikeouts while showing diminished velocity. He will need at least a handful of starts on the farm again before Milwaukee is ready to have him make his 2026 debut in the majors. Right now, he's merely a deep-league stash option for pitching depth. Priester is rostered in 19% of Yahoo leagues.

Quinn Priester Dealing With Shoulder Soreness

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester (shoulder, wrist) is dealing with some right-shoulder soreness, manager Pat Murphy told Brewers reporter Sophia Minnaert. The Brewers don't think it's a re-injury long term, but Priester will be evaluated by the training staff and work with the pitching coaches. He's with the big-league club in St. Louis for their series against the Cardinals early this week after being returned from his minor-league rehab assignment, but he remains on the 15-day injured list. The 25-year-old has really struggled with his velocity and command in his three rehab starts with Nashville, prompting the Brewers to shut him down for now. Priester allowed nine earned runs on seven hits (one home run) while walking eight and striking out five in just five innings pitched. He threw 37 of his 62 pitches for strikes in his latest rehab outing on Friday while allowing five runs in just two innings. Something just isn't right with Priester, and now that he's been shut down, he probably won't make his 2026 debut until at least June.
