Red Sox
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Quinn Priester was recalled ahead of his start on Sunday afternoon. Priester has spent his entire time in the Red Sox organization pitching for Triple-A and will be set to make his Boston debut on the final day of the regular season. Through 38 1/3 innings at Triple-A Worcester, the former Bucco held a 5.40 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, with a 12:42 BB:K ratio. In 44 innings at the major league level in the Steel City this summer, Priester posted a 5.04 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. The 24-year-old has continued to show growing pains against the top level of the minor leagues and the majors and should not be considered as a streaming option this afternoon.

Quinn Priester Struggles In First Appearance Since Trade
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Quinn Priester took the mound for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, completing 2 1/3 innings and allowing eight runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four. Throughout this season, Priester has been bouncing between Triple-A and MLB, combining for a 5.02 ERA in 80 2/3 total innings. After spending most of July in the big leagues, he was demoted to Triple-A after the Red Sox acquired him from Pittsburgh. Unless a pitcher in Boston's current rotation has to miss time, Priester will likely need to improve before he's recalled to the majors.

Red Sox Acquire Quinn Priester From The Pirates
The Boston Red Sox acquired right-hander Quinn Priester from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday in exchange for infield prospect Nick Yorke, according to sources. Priester, once a top pitching prospect for Pittsburgh, will now head to Boston, where he'll serve as organizational starting pitching depth. The 23-year-old former 18th overall pick in 2019 will most likely be heading to Triple-A Worcester and can be left on the waiver wire in single-year fantasy leagues for the time being. Priester made his big-league debut last year and went 2-6 in 10 appearances (six starts) for the Bucs this year while posting a 5.04 ERA (4.81 FIP) and 1.45 WHIP with a 31:13 K:BB in 44 2/3 frames. The Red Sox will be hoping they can turn Priester around in the long term for a rotation spot down the road after he's posted an unattractive 6.46 ERA in 94 2/3 innings so far in the majors the last two years.

Quinn Priester Activated, Edward Olivares Optioned To Triple-A
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated right-hander Quinn Priester (lat) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned outfielder Edward Olivares to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. The team also outrighted left-hander Justin Bruihl to Indy after he was designated for assignment and cleared waivers. Priester, who has been up and down for the Pirates as a starter in 2024, should make his first start off the IL this weekend in an excellent matchup against the Chicago White Sox. The 24-year-old went five innings in his final minor-league rehab start and currently carries a 4.83 ERA in 31 2/3 innings (six starts) in his second year in the majors. Olivares will get the boot back to the farm after Joshua Palacios has emerged as the team's regular in right field of late. Olivares is hitting just .224 (39-for-174) with five home runs and 23 RBI.

Quinn Priester Continues To Build Up His Arm
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester (lat) made his second minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday and went five innings, giving up an earned run on three hits (one homer) while walking none and striking out six. Now that rookie right-hander Jared Jones (lat) is on the 15-day injured list and is out through the All-Star break, Priester is a candidate to take his place in Pittsburgh's starting rotation before the All-Star break. The 23-year-old former 18th overall pick in 2019 struggled in his first taste of the big leagues last year, posting a 7.74 ERA and 1.70 WHIP with 36 K's and 27 walks in 10 outings (eight starts) over 50 innings. Priester has gone 0-5 so far in 2024 with a 4.83 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with a 20:10 K:BB in his six starts. There could be plenty more ups and downs for the young Priester once he returns to Pittsburgh's rotation.

Quinn Priester Making Another Start Wednesday
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester will get another start on Wednesday to face the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. Priester will get another shot at it for Pittsburgh despite allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits (three home runs) with one walk in 4 1/3 innings in his season debut last Friday against the Boston Red Sox. The 23-year-old is going to need to do better this week against a tough Brewers lineup if he wants any chance of remaining in the Pirates' rotation moving forward. The former 18th overall pick in 2019 out of high school just hasn't been very good so far in the big leagues, dating back to his debut in 2023, as he's gone 3-4 with a 7.79 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with 28 walks and 38 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings over 11 outings (nine starts).

Quinn Priester Expected To Start Against Boston On Friday
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester is expected to be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his first major-league start of the year on Friday against the Boston Red Sox, according to a source. The former 18th overall pick in 2019 out of high school struggled in his big-league debut last year by going 3-3 with a 7.74 ERA (6.74 FIP) and 1.70 WHIP with 27 walks and 36 strikeouts in 50 innings over 10 appearances (eight starts) for the Bucs. However, the 23-year-old was looking better with a 3.95 ERA, five walks and 20 K's in 13 2/3 innings in his first three starts for Indy this year. Priester could stick in Pittsburgh's starting rotation until left-hander Marco Gonzales (forearm) is able to return, but at best, he'll be a shaky streaming option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Quinn Priester Strikes Out Nine In Opener
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Quinn Priester no longer has true prospect eligibility by MLB's standards, but he should be viewed as one given that he is 23 years old, still in Triple-A, and has 10 big league appearances under his belt. The right-hander gets good velocity behind his mid-90s heater and misses plenty of bats with his curveball. Priester appeared in the big league portion of Spring Training but reverted to the Triple-A roster for Opening Day. In his first outing of the campaign, he lasted 5.2 innings, allowing just one run, one hit, and one walk while striking out nine batters. He figures to be a long-term contributor for Pittsburgh.

Quinn Priester Excels In First Start
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitching prospect Quinn Priester performed well in his first start of the season for Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. The right-hander went 5 2/3 innings and allowed one hit, one run, one walk and struck out nine on the evening. Priester missed a spot in the big-league rotation, but remains one of their best pitching prospects behind Paul Skenes. Priester struggled in his brief time in the big leagues this past season, but some more seasoning in Triple-A may be just what the young right-hander needs. Even though Paul Skenes is the hot name amongst Pirates prospects, Priester might have the upper hand on a promotion, should the idea present itself early in the season.

Quinn Priester Trying To Break Camp
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Quinn Priester allowed one run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout against the Toronto Blue Jays in Tuesday's Grapefruit League contest. The 23-year-old came on in relief in this contest but will remain in a starting role, either for the Pirates or in Triple-A. Priester entered last season as the Pirates' top pitching prospect, but struggled during his rookie campaign by posting a 7.74 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across eight starts (10 appearances) at the big-league level. Still, Priester remains one of the Pirates' top prospects and will continue to make a case to break camp in the starting rotation, with Bailey Falter being his main competition. Priester can be ignored in redraft leagues for now, with his biggest value being in dynasty platforms.
