Shane Drohan Is More Than a Matchup Streamer

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Shane Drohan has a 3.51 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 82 strikeouts against 23 walks through 82 innings. The left-hander has remained in the rotation for 10 consecutive starts since June 1, and his underlying numbers support more than short-term streaming value. Drohan owns a 3.33 expected ERA, 24.0% strikeout rate, and 6.7% walk rate. Drohan did allow five earned runs over six innings against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, July 24, so he is not an automatic start in every matchup. Even so, one poor outing does not erase the stable role, solid ratios, and strikeout-per-inning production. Roughly two-thirds of Yahoo leagues still have Drohan available, while RotoBaller ranks him 71st among its current waiver options with a recommendation for 12-team formats. He belongs on rosters in standard mixed leagues, even if managers remain selective with tougher matchups.

Shane Drohan Has Pitched His Way Into 12-Team Leagues

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed starting pitcher Shane Drohan settled down after a three-run second inning on Saturday, July 18, and ended up striking out a career-high nine over six frames against Miami. He earned his fifth win and now carries a 3.20 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 76 innings. That is a lot more than streamer-only production. Drohan has started seven straight games, and Milwaukee has every reason to keep him there after Brandon Woodruff's season-ending shoulder surgery. The underlying numbers are holding up, too, with a 3.31 expected ERA, 24.0% strikeout rate, and 6.6% walk rate. A 37% roster rate on Yahoo still leaves him available in plenty of leagues. RotoBaller has Drohan in the 12-team range, and the ratios, strikeouts, and steadier rotation path make him worth holding rather than cycling back onto the wire.

Shane Drohan Impressing as a Rookie, Should Stick in Brewers Rotation

Milwaukee Brewers rookie left-hander Shane Drohan began his MLB career working out of the bullpen for the Brew Crew, but he deserves a much longer look in their starting rotation going into the second half and off the waiver wire in fantasy baseball leagues after his strong start in 2026. In 19 appearances (nine starts) covering 70 innings, Drohan has gone 4-3 with a 3.09 ERA (3.24 FIP) and 1.20 WHIP with 67 strikeouts and 20 walks. The 27-year-old southpaw has a 3.38 ERA (3.78 FIP) with 39 strikeouts and 12 walks in 42 2/3 frames and eight starts since joining Milwaukee's rotation on June 1. Drohan has allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his eight starts up through the All-Star break and has quality starts in three of his eight starts, including in each of his last two appearances. His most recent start on Saturday against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates was his first start of at least six innings with no walks. Drohan appears primed to stick in the Brewers' banged-up rotation to open the second half of the season, and if he keeps pitching like this, he could stick as a starter for the rest of the year. He's only rostered in 33% of Yahoo leagues.

Shane Drohan a Must-Add Pitcher Amidst Recent Emergence in Milwaukee?

After spending much of the early portion of the 2026 season in a bulk relief role, Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Shane Drohan was moved to his team's starting rotation in early June. The 27-year-old has pitched well since the role change, recording a 2-1 record with a 3.22 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 33 strikeouts across 36 1/3 innings (seven starts). Drohan demonstrated high-end strikeout upside in the minor leagues in 2025, recording a 34.5% strikeout rate across 54 innings while pitching in the Boston Red Sox organization. While fantasy managers should not expect that same level of dominance now that he's a regular part of an MLB rotation, Drohan's swing-and-miss ceiling is likely higher than his current strikeout rate of 22.8%. Drohan carries streamer appeal across all fantasy formats and may even be a priority waiver wire target in deeper leagues.

Shane Drohan an Emerging Waiver Target in Transition to Starting Role?

The Milwaukee Brewers moved left-hander Shane Drohan from the bullpen to their starting rotation at the beginning of June after he posted a 2.63 ERA (2.41 FIP) with 28 strikeouts and eight walks in 27 1/3 innings (one start) to begin the 2026 season. Since moving to the rotation on June 1, Drohan has allowed 10 earned runs (3.65 ERA) on 25 hits (three homers) while walking nine and striking out 24 in five starts across 24 2/3 innings pitched. The 27-year-old former fifth-rounder by the Boston Red Sox in 2020 out of Florida State University has recorded one quality start over that span. He hasn't provided much length, which is understandable as he transitions from a reliever to a starter, but he's also allowed three or fewer earned runs in four of his five starts for the Brew Crew. Drohan went 4 1/3 scoreless innings with three walks and five punchouts in 4 1/3 innings on June 24 against the division-rival Cincinnati Reds, and he's scheduled to face them again at home on Wednesday. Against a Reds team that has the fourth-most strikeouts in baseball, Drohan is an interesting deep-league streamer and waiver-wire consideration.

Brewers Acquire Pitcher Shane Drohan From Red Sox

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired left-hander Shane Drohan from the Boston Red Sox on Monday, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. Drohan will head to the National League Central and will most likely open up the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Nashville. The 27-year-old appeared in only 15 games (14 starts) in the minors last year due to a left-forearm injury, but when he was healthy, he was solid on the mound. Drohan went 5-2 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 77:21 K:BB in 54 total innings at High-A Greenville and Triple-A Worcester. He will give the Brewers some extra rotation depth in 2026 after they traded right-hander Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets. Drohan has a career 4.29 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 472 strikeouts, and 205 walks in 104 outings (89 starts) in his five-year minor-league career.

Shane Drohan Has Shoulder Surgery

Chicago White Sox left-hander Shane Drohan (shoulder), the team's Rule 5 pick, underwent left-shoulder surgery on Thursday morning. Drohan is expected to start a throwing program by the end of spring training. The 25-year-old is probably going to be sidelined for a while before he's cleared to pitch in minor-league games in 2024. The former fifth-round pick of the Boston Red Sox out of Florida State in 2020 went a combined 10-7 with a 5.05 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 72 walks and 129 strikeouts in 123 innings over 27 appearances (25 starts) with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. While Drohan has served as a starter in Boston's farm system, it's possible the White Sox will utilize him as a multi-inning reliever when he's healthy, especially now that he'll be recovering from surgery in 2024.
