Aaron Ashby News
The Milwaukee Brewers have placed left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) on the 15-day IL after a left shoulder injury in Spring Training. The hope is that he returns by mid-May. Ashby had a mixed season in 2022, pitching to a 4.44 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 2-10 record, but posted a 26.5% strikeout rate over 27 games. The 24-year-old has plenty of talent, exhibited by his career 3.95 FIP and 27.1% strikeout rate across 139 innings, but the Brewers have a solid rotation heading into 2023. Ashby will need someone to falter or land on the IL if he wants a spot as a starter once he returns. He's worth a stash in dynasty formats, but fantasy managers can drop him without much concern in redraft leagues.
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) is taking it slow after suffering a left shoulder injury that required a platelet-rich plasma injection, and he is hoping to make his season debut in mid-May. "It's a shoulder impingement, labral tear. That sounds really bad but everyone has these; it's just kind of how it affects you," Ashby said. The 24-year-old southpaw was able to play catch on flat ground on Wednesday in camp at a distance of around 75 feet. He went 2-10 last year with a 4.44 ERA, but he struck out 126 hitters in 107 1/3 innings and has plenty of long-term strikeout upside for fantasy managers. Ashby is stash-worthy in NL-only leagues, but you can probably leave him to the waiver wire in mixed leagues to begin the 2023 season.
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) hopes to be pitching for the team by the middle of May if everything goes well in his recovery from a left shoulder impingement and a slight labral tear. The 24-year-old southpaw needed a platelet-rich plasma injection in his shoulder in late January, which will cause him to miss the first at least a month of the 2023 season. Ashby went 2-10 with a 4.44 ERA (4.06 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, one save and 26.5 percent strikeout rate in 107 1/3 innings over 27 appearances (19 starts) last year in his second MLB campaign. Despite his injury, he still has plenty of long-term appeal in fantasy, although those in shallow mixed leagues can safely leave him to the waiver to begin this season.

You might look at Aaron Ashby's numbers and believe he was a bit of a let-down last year. In 27 appearances (19 starts), Ashby had a 2-10 W-L record, 4.44 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 126 Ks (107.1 IP) but with a 3.75 xERA, 3.29 xFIP and 3.48 SIERA, it's fair to say he was a bit unlucky. Normally, his profile is one that screams 'sleeper' but Ashby looks set to start the season in the bullpen following the Brewers' signing Wade Miley leaving Ashby as a possible sixth-starter but likely a 'long-reliever'. He was something of a swingman last year and can still provide value out of the bullpen or as a spot starter but with an ADP of ~236 (69th starting pitcher), Ashby will need better results than what he had in 2022 to provide value. Only six of his 19 starts in 2022 saw Ashby complete more than 5.0 IP and he had two IL stints with arm issues so there are question marks about his durability and how much volume we can expect in 2023. But with a 26.5% K% (73rd percentile), 29.4% Whiff% (75th percentile) and 34.1% HardHit% (80th percentile) last year, along with his expected numbers, it's completely understandable why you'd draft Ashby. How much fantasy value Ashby provides in 2023 boils down to volume determined by his role.
