Aaron Ashby Continues to Rack Up Wins, Attracting More Waiver Interest

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed reliever Aaron Ashby doesn't always pitch in high-leverage spots at the end of games, but he's still been clutch out of the bullpen for the first-place Brewers and for fantasy managers alike in 2026. The 28-year-old southpaw has an MLB-leading 10 wins (zero losses) in his 33 appearances (one start as an opener) while pitching to a 2.80 ERA (2.85 FIP) and 1.33 WHIP with 61 strikeouts and 22 walks in 45 innings pitched. Ashby actually has a 6.00 ERA (5.43 FIP) with four walks and 10 strikeouts in nine innings pitched over seven outings in June, but it hasn't stopped him from picking up a win and two holds. He gave up a run in his last outing on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians, but the Brewers once again bailed him out for his major-league-leading 10th victory. Not only is Ashby attractive as a vulture for wins off the waiver wire, but he's also sporting a career-high 31.6% strikeout rate. A career-high 11.4% walk rate is getting him in trouble, too. If you need wins, Ashby might be worth targeting, and he's rostered in only 36% of Yahoo leagues.

Aaron Ashby Carries Deep-League Waiver-Wire Appeal

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed reliever Aaron Ashby is off to a dominant start to the 2026 season, as he's recorded a 9-0 record with a 2.35 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts across 38 1/3 innings (28 games). With Ashby's ability to work more than one inning, Milwaukee has opted to keep him in a fireman role rather than move him to the ninth inning. While the lack of saves limits Ashby's fantasy upside, his role with the Brewers still allows him to provide value for fantasy managers. Given his frequent appearances in high-leverage situations, Ashby should continue to find himself in position to rack up wins. He's also struck out 32.5% of the batters he's faced so far this season. In deeper league formats, Ashby may have more value as a waiver wire target than a below-average starting pitcher.

Aaron Ashby's High-Leverage Role Provides Fantasy Value Despite Lack of Saves

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby has a case as the most valuable relief pitcher in baseball so far this season. Across 36 innings (26 games), Ashby has recorded a 9-0 record with a 2.00 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts. The 28-year-old's WHIP is inflated by his 11.9% walk rate, but he's struck out 33.8% of the batters he's faced. Ashby also owns an impressive 56.8% ground-ball rate and has been taken deep just one time in 2026. Milwaukee appears likely to continue utilizing Ashby in a fireman role and relying on the combination of right-handers Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill in the ninth inning. Still, Ashby's high-leverage usage has allowed him to rack up wins at a prolific rate. Even if Ashby slows down from his current 25-win pace, he should provide fantasy managers with an elite strikeout rate and plenty of assistance in the ERA category. Particularly in deeper leagues, Ashby is a worthy waiver wire target.

Aaron Ashby a Waiver-Wire Candidate Despite Having Zero Saves

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed reliever Aaron Ashby has zero saves and zero holds in 33 innings pitched so far in 2026 in 24 appearances (one start), but he's rostered in 38% of Yahoo leagues. He's made up for that with a league-high eight wins, a 2.18 ERA (2.25 FIP), and a 1.30 WHIP with a career-best 33.6% strikeout rate in 33 innings pitched for the Brew Crew. The 28-year-old southpaw originally came up in the Brewers' system as a starting pitcher, but frequent injuries have turned him into a full-time reliever. The role has suited him well because of his high-end velocity and swing-and-miss secondary offerings. Fantasy managers cannot rely on Ashby to continue vulturing wins, though, and he's also sporting a career-high 12.1% walk rate. However, his strikeout upside in a high-leverage, multi-inning role makes him attractive in deeper leagues. He was also quite good in 2025, sporting a 2.16 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, a career-high three saves, and a 76:24 K:BB in 66 2/3 innings.

Despite Lack of Saves, Aaron Ashby is a Reliable High-Leverage Bullpen Arm

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed reliever Aaron Ashby isn't a sexy bullpen arm because he's not in line for saves in Milwaukee, but he still has plenty of fantasy baseball value. Going into the weekend in Week 8 of the fantasy season, Ashby has a league-high seven wins in relief while holding a strong 2.00 ERA (2.07 FIP) and 1.26 WHIP with an impressive 43 strikeouts and 15 walks in 27 innings out of the bullpen for the Brew Crew in 2026. The hard-throwing southpaw sits in the 99th percentile in strikeout rate, behind only Mason Miller and Erik Sabrowski, the 98th percentile in whiff rate, and the 74th percentile among pitchers in chase rate. Once a promising starting pitching prospect for the Brewers, Ashby was moved to a bullpen role because of his inability to stay healthy, and he has thrived ever since. Last year in 66 2/3 innings, Ashby had a 2.16 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, a career-high three saves, and a 76:24 K:BB. While he has zero saves so far this year, Ashby is proving himself as one of the better high-leverage bullpen arms in baseball, and he's rostered in only 37% of Yahoo leagues.

Aaron Ashby Serving as Opener for Brewers on Friday

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby will serve as the team's opener for right-hander Chad Patrick on Friday against the visiting Washington Nationals at American Family Field, according to Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic. It makes sense for Ashby to kick things off in the top of the first with the Nationals sporting a lefty-heavy top of their batting order. Expect Ashby to only throw the first inning before giving way to Patrick, who will be the bulk reliever in this one. So far in seven relief appearances for the Brew Crew in 2026, Ashby has allowed three earned runs on seven hits (one homer) while walking five and striking out 14 in 9 2/3 innings. He also has three wins. Ashby has held left-handed hitters to a .220 batting average in 268 plate appearances in his big-league career, and he's allowed only four home runs to lefties. Unfortunately, Ashby won't go deep enough in this game to be useful as a fantasy streamer.

Aaron Ashby to Serve as Opener for Game 1

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Aaron Ashby will serve as the opener for Game 1 of the NLCS versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ashby served as the opener for Game 2 of the NLDS against the Chicago Cubs. He gave up three runs in 1.2 innings, but he has been a viable option for the Brewers outside of that. The southpaw posted a 2.16 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 76/24 K/BB ratio across 43 appearances with the Brewers in the regular season. The assumption is that the Brewers are using Ashby to face Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. Quinn Priester figures to pitch a bulk of the innings during Monday's game.

Aaron Ashby to Open Game 2 Against Cubs

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed reliever Aaron Ashby will open Game 2 of the NLDS against the Chicago Cubs on Monday, manager Pat Murphy announced. Ashby logged a stingy 2.16 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP, 76 strikeouts, and 24 walks over 43 appearances and 66 2/3 innings during the regular season. The 27-year-old didn't go past the 52-pitch mark in any of those outings, though, meaning he probably won't be in for long on Monday as the Brewers attempt to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Ashby tossed 1 1/3 perfect innings and 16 pitches in the Brewers' 9-3 win in Game 1 on Saturday.

Aaron Ashby to Serve as Opener, Erick Fedde to Follow on Wednesday

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Aaron Ashby is scheduled to take the mound as the opener for Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The southpaw will make an emergency start with Quinn Priester (wrist) being pushed back to Saturday. Ashby figures to only throw an inning or two considering he pitched during Monday's contest. Newly signed Erick Fedde figures to operate as the bulk option during Wednesday's game. This is a situation to avoid for fantasy purposes as Ashby won't go deep in this game.

Aaron Ashby Back From Paternity List

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated left-hander Aaron Ashby from the paternity list back on Monday and optioned right-hander Easton McGee to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Ashby was away from the team for the birth of his child for the final three games of the first half of the season last weekend, but he's now back with the club and will be available out of the bullpen for the start of the second half this Friday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old southpaw got a late start to the 2025 season due to injury, but he's made up for lost time and has been a key arm in Milwaukee's bullpen through his 13 outings, as he's posted a sharp 1.66 ERA (2.67 FIP), a 1.06 WHIP, one save, 26 strikeouts and seven walks in 21 2/3 innings pitched. With how well he's pitching in relief, it's worth wondering if the Brewers will return him to a starting role eventually.
