Astros Skipping Ronel Blanco's Turn In The Rotation
The Houston Astros are skipping right-hander Ronel Blanco's spot in the starting rotation this weekend against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks with the intent of returning to a six-man rotation during a stretch of 16 games without an off day. Blanco has been Houston's most consistent starter this year in a season in which their rotation has been decimated by injuries, but he threw a career-high 52 innings during the regular season in 2023 and is already at 148 1/3 frames this year over his 26 starts. Eventually, it's expected that Blanco will shift to Houston's bullpen, either at the tail end of the regular season or for the start of the postseason. The 31-year-old has been great in 2024, though, throwing a no-hitter early in the year while going 10-6 with a 3.03 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP and 144 strikeouts in 148 1/3 innings in his first full year in the team's rotation.

Ronel Blanco Set To Start On Tuesday
Houston Astros starting pitcher Ronel Blanco (finger) is set to return to the bump on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic. The 30-year-old was dealing with some general finger soreness after being hit by a comebacker in his previous start, but the injury does not seem serious, as Blanco will not miss a turn in the rotation. The right-hander has enjoyed a nice campaign so far as he sits with a solid 2.89 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 51:130 BB:K ratio. Since allowing a high 4.40 ERA through July, Blanco has settled down through the start of August, holding a much-improved 2.40 ERA. Blanco should remain in all starting lineups and will be a popular play in DFS on Tuesday evening, given his recent stretch.

Ronel Blanco Leaves Early With Finger Injury
Houston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco (finger) left his start early on Wednesday on the road at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays with a sore left index finger after a comebacker grazed him. Manager Joe Espada pulled Blanco from the game, but X-rays came back negative on his finger. Despite leaving with an injury, Blancos was still able to deliver a quality start for his fantasy managers in a no-decision, tossing six scoreless innings while walking none, striking out four and allowing only two hits to lower his season ERA to 2.89. The 30-year-old shouldn't have to miss his next turn in the rotation, which should come next Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox, especially since the injury was to his left (non-throwing) hand. Blanco threw the first no-hitter in baseball earlier this year and has been Houston's most consistent starter in 2024.

Ronel Blanco Picks Up Ninth Win Tuesday
Houston Astros starting pitcher Ronel Blanco (9-3) picked up his ninth win and a quality start Tuesday night, going seven innings while allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in a 4-3 victory against the Miami Marlins. Blanco was near perfect on the night. The only two blemishes were solo home runs to the first and last batters of the game he faced -- Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jesus Sanchez. The Astros and fantasy managers alike are enjoying what Blanco has brought to the mound this season. With the injuries to Justin Verlander (neck) and Cristian Javier (elbow) and the overall struggles of Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown, the 30-year-old right-hander's 2.53 ERA is carrying the pitching staff as we sit here in July. Look for Blanco to continue his breakout season against the Texas Rangers, a team he hasn't faced since he allowed two runs in six innings back during his first start of the season.

Ronel Blanco Has Strong Performance
Houston Astros starting pitcher Ronel Blanco made easy work of the Oakland Athletics lineup during Sunday's game. The right-hander was recently suspended, but clearly didn't miss a beat as seen by his outing on Sunday. Blanco tossed seven innings, allowing only one run on four hits in the win over the A's. He struck out six batters, while walking only one batter during this outing. Blanco now holds a 5-0 record with a 1.99 ERA so far this season. He'll get a tougher matchup against the Minnesota Twins next week.

Ronel Blanco Starting Sunday Against Athletics
Houston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco (suspension) will start Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. Blanco was reinstated to the team's active roster on Sunday morning after serving a 10-game suspension for using a foreign substance on the mound. Blanco has been a surprising bright spot for fantasy managers as he owns a 2.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 45:21 K:BB across eight starts this season. The 30-year-old should be able to pick back up where he left off in an attractive fantasy matchup on Sunday.

Ronel Blanco Likely To Start On Sunday
Houston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco will likely make his return from a 10-day suspension to start on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics, according to manager Joe Espada. Blanco was ejected from his last start after just three innings against the A's after umpires found an illegal substance on his glove. He threw three scoreless innings against Oakland his last time out and has been excellent this year for the Astros, going 4-0 with a 2.09 ERA (4.02 FIP) and 1.06 WHIP with 21 walks and 45 strikeouts in 47 1/3 frames over eight starts. Blanco's FIP of over 4.00 shows that he's due some regression in 2024, but fantasy managers must continue to roll with him in starting lineups, especially against an A's offense that ranks 22nd in baseball with a .674 OPS.

Ronel Blanco Won't Appeal His Suspension
Houston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco will not appeal his automatic 10-day suspension, according to general manager Dana Brown. Blanco will begin serving his suspension on Wednesday and will miss his next scheduled start after his glove was confiscated during his start on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics when umpires found a foreign substance on his leather. The 30-year-old was ejected after three shutout innings against the A's and now won't be eligible to pitch again until May 26. An already beat-up Astros pitching staff will now be even more thinned out over the next 10 days, although right-hander Jose Urquidy (forearm) is nearing his return. Blanco has been a revelation this year for Houston and fantasy managers, already throwing a no-hitter while sporting a 2.09 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 21 walks and 45 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings over his eight starts.

Ronel Blanco To Appeal His Suspension
Houston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco plans to appeal his automatic 10-game suspension after he was ejected during his start on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics in the fourth inning after umpires determined his glove had a foreign substance on it. Manager Joe Espada said that Blanco had a mixture of rosin and sweat on his glove hand, which is illegal under league rules. Depending on when his appeal is heard, Blanco may be able to make his next scheduled start. Before being ejected on Tuesday against the A's, the 30-year-old Dominican hurler had tossed another three shutout innings and is now 4-0 on the season with a sparkling 2.09 ERA (4.00 FIP) and 1.06 WHIP with 21 walks and 45 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings over his eight starts. He's been a must-start in all fantasy leagues but will likely be forced to miss a start soon.
