Ryan Noda News
Oakland Athletics first baseman Ryan Noda is missing from Tuesday's lineup for the game against the Seattle Mariners. The 27-year-old has been one of the positives of the A's season so far, slashing .224/.401/.422 with four bombs, 24 runs, 15 runs, and a pair of steals. However, manager Mark Kotsay prefers to keep him on the bench against lefties, so with southpaw Marco Gonzales on the bump, he'll take a seat. Jesus Aguilar is playing first base instead and batting cleanup. The 10-year veteran has seen better days, as he's batting .235 with five bombs, eight runs, and nine RBI through 34 games. But, Aguilar's sporting a .318 batting average off of left-handers, so fantasy managers looking for a first baseman should consider streaming the 32-year-old.
Oakland A's first baseman Ryan Noda will hit second Monday when the A's take on Chicago Cubs right-hander Hayden Wesneski. It's the sixth start out of the two-hole for the lefty-swinging Noda who is off to a productive start to his season. He's hitting just .211 but Noda has two homers, a double, nine runs, and a stolen base to his credit across 49 trips to the plate. He's struck out in 32.7% of his plate appearances on the young season but he's managed to post a strong 22.4% BB% which has helped lead to a 134 wRC+ that checks in 34% above the league average. The 27-year-old offered a strong combination of power and speed at Triple-A last season, hitting 25 homers with 20 stolen bases across 135 games in the Dodgers system.
The Oakland Athletics selected Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Ryan Noda second overall in Wednesday's Rule 5 draft. The rebuilding A's will give Noda a shot to see if he can stick on their major-league roster in 2023. The 26-year-old was taken in the 15th round in 2017 out of the University of Cincinnati by the Toronto Blue Jays. Noda, a left-handed-hitting first baseman and corner outfielder, finished the 2022 season by hitting .259/.396/.474 with an .870 OPS, 25 home runs, 90 RBI, 86 runs scored and even 20 stolen bases in 135 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He has plenty of power (54 home runs in the last two seasons), but he'll need to cut down on his strikeouts (162 in 2022) in order to find success in the majors.
