Ryan O'Hearn News
Baltimore Orioles first baseman/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn got in on the slugfest in Tuesday's 11-3 win over the Twins. O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a single and a two-run home run. The 30-year-old has made the most of his playing time in the O's lineup, slashing .333/.400/.689 with four HR, 11 runs scored, and six RBI in 50 plate appearances. The O's have plenty of young talent to stack the lineup, but O'Hearn is worth a look in deeper leagues as long as he hits well enough to earn playing time.
Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that first baseman Ryan O'Hearn will be getting reps in the corner outfield at spring training. O'Hearn could see an occasional start in the outfield this year, but most of his playing time figures to come at first base and designated hitter. The 30-year-old left-handed slugger was in the strong side of a platoon at first for the O's in 2023 and impressed with a .289/.322/.480 slash line, .801 OPS, a career-high-tying 14 home runs, 22 doubles, a triple, 60 RBI, five stolen bases and 48 runs scored in a career-high 112 games in his first year with the team. O'Hearn hit the ball hard consistently and was mostly a surprise because of the fact that he cut down on his strikeout rate in his first year in Baltimore. He'll be an asset in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues, but betting on a repeat might be foolish.
The Baltimore Orioles and infielder/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn avoided salary arbitration on Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.5 million deal for the 2024 season that includes a $7.5 million club option for the 2025 season. O'Hearn will have escalators for his 2025 club option that include $500,000 for 120 games played and another $500,000 for 150 games played. This was the 30-year-old's final year of arbitration eligibility. After five years with the Kansas City Royals, he slashed an impressive .289/.322.480 with an .801 OPS, a career-high-tying 14 home runs, 60 RBI, five stolen bases and 48 runs scored in a career-high 112 games with the O's in 2023. O'Hearn is projected to see regular playing time between first base and designated hitter in 2024 against right-handed hurlers in 2024.
