Samuel Basallo Avoids Serious Injury

Baltimore Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo (hand) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was lifted in the fifth inning after taking a foul ball off his right hand. Basallo attempted to stay in the game, but had trouble throwing the ball. He underwent X-rays that came back negative for any fractures. That being said, Basallo appears to have avoided any serious injuries. For now, fantasy managers should consider Basallo as day-to-day. He'll likely sit out for a few days, which could result in more playing time for Alex Jackson behind the plate.

Samuel Basallo Exits Early with Hand Injury

Baltimore Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo (hand) was removed early during Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Basallo was taken out of the game after taking a foul ball off his right hand. He attempted to stay in the game, but both his throws sailed into the outfield. The assumption is that Basallo will undergo X-rays to determine the severity of the injury. His lone at-bat in the game resulted in a walk. For now, fantasy managers should consider Basallo as day-to-day. Alex Jackson took over behind the plate and figures to see increased time there if Basallo misses time.

Samuel Basallo Hits First Career Homer

Baltimore Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo was able to come away with a big milestone during Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The rookie catcher smacked a solo home run off right-hander Tristan Beck for his first career homer. He finished the game 1-for-4 with a homer, one RBI, and a walk in the win. Basallo is 8-for-39 with one homer and six RBI since being called up in the middle of August. He'll likely remain the primary catcher in Baltimore through the rest of the season. Basallo hasn't been a great fantasy option, but does offer some upside.

Samuel Basallo Having Slow Start to MLB Career

Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo has had a slow start to his MLB career. Through his first 10 games with the MLB club, the top catching prospect in the sport has posted an underwhelming .200/.243/.257 slash line with just two doubles. He has yet to go deep and has scored only one run and tallied five RBI. Despite his modest production, Basallo has shown a strong eye at the plate, posting an elite 26.7% strikeout rate while generating an impressive 76.7 mph bat speed, which suggests his power numbers should increase over the final month. Earlier this season, Basallo was flashing immense upside at Triple-A, carrying a .270/.377/.589 line with a .966 OPS and 23 home runs. Given that he is only 21 years old, fantasy managers should expect Basallo to find his footing in the majors slowly. While he has gotten off to a slow start, managers in all standard 12-team leagues should continue to view him as a high-power upside catcher going forward.

Samuel Basallo Inks an Eight-Year Extension With the Orioles

Baltimore Orioles young superstar Samuel Basallo and the organization are finalizing an eight-year, $67 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. Basallo, who just turned 21, is one of the best prospects in baseball, and less than a week after being called up, he has a long-term deal, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. Basallo, who was recently called up to the big leagues on August 17, is the ninth-best prospect in all of baseball according to MLB top-100 prospects, and through just four games with the Orioles, has already agreed to an eight-year extension and been locked up long-term. Basallo has the upside to be one of the better hitters in baseball; he possesses game-changing power and excellent bat-to-ball skills, which enable him to drive the ball to all fields with elite exit velocities. In his 14 MLB at-bats, he is slashing .286/.333/.357 with five RBI. In Triple-A this year, he slashed .270/.377/.589 with 23 homeruns, 49 runs scored, and 67 RBI. While his defense is a work in progress, the Orioles have decided to lock him in long-term early in his career. Once the deal is completed, it will take effect next season and include a club option. Basallo ranks as a top-five catcher in dynasty formats.

Samuel Basallo Collects First Career Hit

Baltimore Orioles catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo made his MLB debut against the Houston Astros on Sunday. It was a fairly quiet day for Basallo, but he was able to make some noise late in the game. Basallo smacked a two-RBI single in the eighth inning for his first career hit. He would finish this game 1-for-4 with two RBI and was also hit by a pitch. This was the first of many hits for the young prospect. Basallo figures to get regular playing time down the stretch in Baltimore. The 21-year-old should be rostered in most fantasy formats, assuming he gets regular at-bats.

Samuel Basallo Called Up From Triple-A Norfolk

The Baltimore Orioles have called up their top prospect, catcher Samuel Basallo, for his major-league debut. MLB.com's No. 8 prospect overall was slashing .270/.377/.589 with 23 home runs in 76 games for Triple-A Norfolk. The 21-year-old has big-time power potential with at least 19 home runs in each of the last three seasons in the minors and has shown a keen eye at the plate as well, recording a 13.7 percent walk rate this year for the Tides. While he's a catcher by trade, the 6-foot-4 Dominican has logged 20 games at first base in 2025, and he's eligible at both positions in Yahoo leagues. With the fantasy upside he can provide, assuming the Orioles are going to give him regular at-bats, the left-handed slugger should be rostered in most 12-team leagues.

Samuel Basallo Riding Three-Game Home Run Streak

Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo has continued to flash immense power upside at Triple-A and is quickly approaching his MLB debut. In each of his last three games at Norfolk, the top catching prospect in the sport has gone deep at least once and posted two multi-hit performances. Over his last 14 total games with the Tides, Basallo has held an eye-catching .362/.429/.862 slash line with eight doubles, seven home runs, 23 RBI, and an elite 1.301 OPS. Through 71 total games at the top ranks of the Baltimore system this season, the 20-year-old budding superstar has posted a .278/.387/.621 line with 16 doubles and 23 home runs. Given his elite power upside, fantasy managers should continue to view Basallo as a top hitting prospect to stash in all 12+ team leagues. With the Orioles out of the playoff picture, Basallo could make his long-awaited MLB debut in the coming weeks.

Samuel Basallo Homers Again

Baltimore Orioles catcher prospect Samuel Basallo went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. The 20-year-old phenom showed off his impressive power to all areas of the field, crushing a 1-1 changeup to left-center field. He's now homered for the third consecutive game and has multiple RBIs in three of his last four. This monster stretch during August has nudged his season-long OPS over 1.000 as he's compiled 23 homers in 71 games. His .335 isolated slugging is the best among all Triple-A hitters. Basallo has some of the best raw power of any prospect with a smooth, adaptable lefty swing that allows him to hit for damage on a variety of pitch locations. The quality of contact is absurd, and he makes plenty of contact to not be overly concerned with the swing and miss. He should be viewed as the best prospect in baseball and stashed away in fantasy leagues for his eventual arrival.

Samuel Basallo Belts 22nd Homer

Baltimore Orioles catcher prospect Samuel Basallo went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI in Tuesday's 12-1 blowout win against Triple-A Rochester. Basallo did damage at the plate all night and has continued his dominant season. The 20-year-old is hitting a ridiculous .278/.386/.612 in 293 plate appearances with Triple-A Norfolk. The quality of contact is absurd for a player of his age playing at Triple-A, with a 55.7% hard hit rate, 20.6% barrel rate, and a 115.9 mph MaxEV. He's paired it with the ability to make contact at an above-average rate and display good swing decisions. The sky is the limit for Basallo, who should be making his MLB debut anytime now. Orioles general manager Mike Elias has expressed his desire to get the stud prospect exposure to big league pitching, and he is a priority stash in standard fantasy leagues.
