Simeon Woods Richardson to Start Against Blue Jays on Wednesday

The Minnesota Twins will activate and start right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) for Wednesday's series finale against the Blue Jays, per The Athletic's Dan Hayes. The 24-year-old has been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul while recovering from an illness. His rehab results have been similar to his big-league results, which have been OK overall. Woods Richardson owns a 5-4 record with a 4.24 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and a 19.8% strikeout rate in 80 2/3 innings pitched with the Twins this season. Given that the start will be his return to the big leagues and he will be facing a tough opponent, fantasy managers may not want to slot him into their lineups right away.

Simeon Woods Richardson Set to Make Another Rehab Start Thursday

Minnesota Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) is scheduled to pitch four innings Thursday for Triple-A St. Paul, the Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Woods Richardson will make his second rehab start after having a procedure earlier this month to remove a parasite from his digestive tract. He threw two innings Friday for St. Paul. Assuming all goes well on Thursday, he'll likely be activated from the injured list and make his next start in the majors. With Pablo Lopez (shoulder), David Festa (shoulder), and Chris Paddock being traded, Woods Richardson should be able to insert himself back into the rotation without much competition. He has put up modest numbers in 2025. Through 16 starts, he has a 4.24 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 69 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings pitched. Most of his advanced stats support his actuals, and he remains a matchup-dependent streamer or deep league option in all fantasy formats.

Simeon Woods Richardson Strikes Out Four in Rehab Start

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) made his first rehab start at Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out four in two shutout innings for the Saints. The 24-year-old has been sidelined after having a parasite removed from his digestive tract earlier this month, having last pitched for the Twins on July 28. The right-hander threw just 34 pitches in the rehab start, so he will likely need a couple more before being activated from the injured list, so look for a late August or early September return. The 6-foot-3 hurler owns a 4.24 ERA (4.71 FIP), 1.40 WHIP, and a 9.7 percent K-BB% through 16 starts this season (80 2/3 innings pitched), so he should be left on the wiaver wire in most fantasy leagues even when he returns.

Simeon Woods Richardson Needed Parasite Removed

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) recently underwent a procedure to remove a parasite from his digestive tract. Woods Richardson was placed on the injured list in early August due to an illness. The organization figured out it was a parasite that he likely got from a seafood meal. Now with it removed, Woods Richardson is feeling much better. He lost quite a bit of weight because of this, so he'll need time to build himself back up. Woods Richardson will probably need a few rehab starts, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back in the mix until late August. The 24-year-old is really only a deep league option at the moment.

Simeon Woods Richardson Goes on Injured List With Illness

Minnesota Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday with an illness, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Woods Richardson is battling a stomach issue, according to manager Rocco Baldelli, and was pushed back from his scheduled start on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians. In a corresponding move, Darren McCaughan was called up from Triple-A St. Paul. Woods Richardson was pushed back to Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers, but he won't make that start either. It's terrible timing, as the 24-year-old has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last eight outings to improve his season ERA to 4.24 and his season WHIP to 1.40. It's unclear when Woods Richardson will be able to return or who will take his rotation spot in the meantime.

Simeon Woods Richardson Battling Stomach Bug

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) was scratched ahead of his start against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. The 24-year-old had his start pushed back due to stomach issues. Now, the plan is for Woods Richardson to take the ball during Wednesday's contest. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with this pitching shakeup. The right-hander has been solid lately with a 2.58 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 30/18 K/BB ratio across his last eight outings. In his place, Jose Urena took the mound during Sunday's game.

Simeon Woods Richardson Tosses Five Shutout Innings

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson pitched five innings and allowed no runs in Thursday's 10-1 win against the visiting Seattle Mariners. He issued one free pass, gave up two hits, and struck out six to improve to 3-4 through 12 appearances (11 starts). The 24-year-old tossed a scoreless outing for the second time in his last three starts, but he's stuck on one quality start and has gone six innings in just two of his trips to the mound. Woods Richardson sports a 4.63 ERA and 1.39 WHIP after the solid performance, and hasn't pitched as poorly as those numbers portend. He is still unlikely to be worth starting, but has a favorable draw with the Miami Marlins on the schedule next week.

Simeon Woods Richardson Set to Start Tuesday

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson is expected to be called back up to join the major league rotation on Tuesday, reports Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston. With Pablo Lopez and Zebby Matthews both going on the injured list, it leaves a spot for the 24-year-old to face off against the Rangers. He'll be looking to turn his season around, considering he posted a 5.02 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 37 innings earlier in the season. It's not likely the youngster will be fantasy-relevant, considering even in Triple-A he allowed eight runs over 17 innings.

Simeon Woods Richardson Sent To Triple-A

The Minnesota Twins sent right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday. Right-hander Zebby Matthews is expected to be recalled from St. Paul to take Woods-Richardson's spot in the starting rotation, with his first start of the year expected to come in Sunday's series finale in Milwaukee against the Brewers. Woods-Richardson loses his rotation spot in the big leagues after starting the year going 2-2 with a 5.02 ERA (5.28 FIP), 1.54 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB in 37 2/3 innings over eight appearances (seven starts). The 24-year-old had his worst outing of the year in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles, allowing six earned runs on eight hits (two homers) while walking two and striking out four in four innings in a no-decision Woods-Richardson should get another shot with the Twins later this season, but for now they'll go with Matthews.

Simeon Woods Richardson A Leading Candidate For Fifth Starter

According to Betsy Helfand of TwinCities.com, Twins right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson is viewed as a "leading" candidate for the fifth starter role. While he is not guaranteed the spot, he is viewed as the top option entering camp. Minnesota's young pitchers, such as David Festa and Zebby Matthews, will compete for this spot alongside Woods Richardson. Last season, Woods Richardson logged a career-high 133 2/3 innings. During his first 82 frames, the 24-year-old was quite effective as he held a 3.51 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP. However, over his final 51 2/3, Woods Richardson took a step back as he posted a 5.23 ERA with a 1.53 WHIP. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progress during spring training, as he could be a viable low-end starting pitcher in deeper formats if he earns a permanent spot in the rotation.
