Spencer Schwellenbach To Start Game 1 On Monday

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach will be tasked with taking the mound for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the New York Mets. The plan is for Schwellenbach to pitch in Game 1 and Chris Sale to take the ball in the night cap. It's worth noting that the Braves would clinch a postseason berth if they win the first game. That being said, the Braves would likely save Sale then and go bullpen game for the night contest. Schwellenbach holds a 3.47 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 122/23 K/BB ratio across 20 starts this season.

Spencer Schwellenbach Strikes Out Five In Win

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach held the Reds to just one run over six innings in Wednesday's 7-1 victory. The 24-year-old allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five batters on the way to earning his seventh win of the season. The outing marked the 10th straight start in which the righty allowed three runs or less, and he lowered his season-long ERA to 3.61 with a 1.10 WHIP. The youngster will take on the Mets at home in his next start on Tuesday of next week.

Spencer Schwellenbach Pitches Into Seventh Against Phillies

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach dominated the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, allowing just two runs over 6 innings on the way to a 3-2 victory. Schwellenbach allowed three hits and a walk while striking out nine in this one. It has been a remarkable season for the 24-year-old, who got called up on May 29 and has blown expectations away in his rookie season. He now has a 3.94 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 94 strikeouts in 82 IP. Schwellenbach is a must-start pitcher and will be a popular breakout pick for the 2025 season.

Spencer Schwellenbach Tosses Quality Start

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach was sharp on the mound during Sunday's outing against the Colorado Rockies. The rookie right-hander struck out seven batters while allowing two runs over six innings of work in a no-decision. Schwellenbach has pitched well this season, but the Braves offense never seems to give him much support. He'll take a 3.95 ERA into a favorable outing against the Los Angeles Angels in his next time out.

Spencer Schwellenbach To Start On Sunday

Atlanta Braves rookie right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach will make his next start this Sunday on the road at Coors Field against the hosting Colorado Rockies. The Braves announced earlier this week that they were going to skip Schwellenbach's next turn through the rotation for rest purposes, but apparently those plans have been scrapped for now. It seems likely that Atlanta will eventually reduce the 24-year-old's workload, though, given the fact that he's already exceeded his innings total from last year by 40 frames. Schwellenbach will have a good matchup against the Rockies this weekend, but hitter-friendly Coors Field isn't ideal. In three starts since the All-Star break, Schwellenbach has allowed only seven earned runs on 15 hits (five homers) while walking none and fanning 29 in 20 innings. Most fantasy managers will be willing to roll the dice in a matchup versus Colorado.

Spencer Schwellenbach Being Skipped In The Rotation

The Atlanta Braves are saying that right-handed rookie Spencer Schwellenbach will have his next turn in the starting rotation skipped, but not because he's hurt. Schwellenbach's next turn through the rotation was scheduled to come up on Sunday at Coors Field against the hosting Rockies. The Braves are likely just managing the 24-year-old's workload in his first big-league season. The former second-rounder in 2021 out of Nebraska-Lincoln is already 40 innings beyond what he was at in all of last season. Through his first 11 big-league starts in 2024, he's gone 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA (3.46 FIP), a 1.04 WHIP and a 70:10 K:BB in 64 2/3 innings pitched. Schwellenbach will dodge a start at hitter-friendly Coors Field and should instead get another juicy matchup against the Los Angeles Angels next weekend.

Spencer Schwellenbach Strikes Out 10 In Strong Start On Friday

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach struck out 10 batters in seven innings and picked up the win in the Braves' 5-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday. This now marks Schwellenbach's second straight start with double-digit strikeouts and his third start in his last four games of seven innings pitched. The Braves' rookie has really started to turn a corner, something the Braves needed with injuries to key starters in their rotation. With a 4.04 ERA and a 3.28 xERA, the 24-year-old is due for more positive regression. Fantasy managers that happen to see Schwellenbach on their waiver wire should snatch him up immediately. He'll get another chance to continue his hot streak on Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Spencer Schwellenbach Strikes Out 11 Batters In Seven Dominant Innings On Saturday

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach was dominant on Saturday afternoon, striking out 11 batters in seven innings of shutout ball in the Braves' 4-0 win over the New York Mets. Schwellenbach allowed just two hits and picked up the win, improving his record to 4-5 while decreasing his ERA to 4.06 on the season. The 24-year-old has started to turn a corner for the Braves, giving them four straight starts of at least six innings pitched. While still spotty during his tenure, he's been due for positive regression as his 3.73 xERA coming into Saturday shows more room for improvement. Fantasy managers looking for a sneaky arm to add may want to look in Schwellenbach's direction. He gets a tasty matchup in his next scheduled start on Thursday when the Braves host the Miami Marlins.

Spencer Schwellenbach Making Adjustments On The Fly

Atlanta Braves rookie right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach, who gave up just one run in six innings against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday in just his seventh major-league start, has been making adjustments on the fly since joining the Braves' rotation on May 29. Schwellenbach, 24, has added a sinker, tweaked the grips on all three of his fastballs, and has moved from the third-base side to the middle of the rubber. The former second-rounder pitched and played shortstop at Nebraska before undergoing Tommy John surgery. Although he's only gone 2-4 with a 5.02 ERA (3.57 FIP) and 1.27 WHIP in 37 2/3 innings over his seven starts, Schwellenbach has delivered 38 strikeouts and only nine walks and has solidified himself as the No. 5 in Atlanta's starting rotation heading into the All-Star break.

Spencer Schwellenbach Pitches Well In MLB Debut

Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Spencer Schwellenbach fared well in his big-league debut on Wednesday versus the Washington Nationals. The right-hander tossed five innings and allowed five hits, three runs, one walk and struck out five batters. The 23-year-old fared well through four scoreless innings to open the game, but outfielder Lane Thomas hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning to give the Nationals the lead and eventual victory. Overall, Schwellenbach pitched well, but it has not been confirmed if he will remain in the rotation or not. Should the Braves stick with the youngster, Schwellenbach would be lined up to face the Boston Red Sox on the road. If the Braves commit to Schwellenbach, he is worthy of rostering in deeper leagues.
