Trenton Brooks Signs Minors Deal With Padres

Free-agent first baseman Trenton Brooks signed a minor-league deal with the San Diego Padres. Brooks will stay in the National League West division after making his major-league debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2024. The 29-year-old former 17th-round pick by the Cleveland Guardians in 2016 out of the University of Nevada only played in 12 games for the Gigantes and went 3-for-25 (.120) with an RBI, stolen base and three runs scored while striking out six times. The left-handed hitter was much better in the minors in 94 games with Triple-A Sacramento, slashing a robust .302/.410/.453 with an impressive .863 OPS, 10 home runs, 58 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 62 runs scored in 407 plate appearances. Brooks will likely start the 2025 season with the Padres in Triple-A El Paso as he looks to work his way back to the majors.

Trenton Brooks Riding Eight-Game Hit Streak

San Francisco Giants first base prospect Trenton Brooks had a big day at the plate on Sunday, going 4-for-5 with a triple, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored for Triple-A Sacramento. The hits extended his hit streak to eight games and he's hit safely in 10 of his last 11. During the hit streak, the 28-year-old is hitting .484 (15-for-31) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, eight RBI, eight runs scored, and a 9:6 BB:K. Despite being 28, the left-handed hitter has yet to make his MLB debut, but the offensive surge couldn't come at a better time as LaMonte Wade Jr. appears headed to the IL and this could be an opportunity to call up Brooks. On the season, the left-handed hitter is slashing .308/.426/.462 with a wOBA of .403, 129 wRC+, and is walking more than he's striking out (31:27). Keep an eye out to see if the Giants finally give him the call.
