The Chicago White Sox reinstated left-hander Tyler Gilbert (knee) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned left-hander Brandon Eisert to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Gilbert made two minor-league rehab appearances at Charlotte last week before the White Sox felt he was ready to join their big-league bullpen. The 31-year-old veteran southpaw won't be on the fantasy radar as he operates in a middle-relief role for the Pale Hose. He had a 3.24 ERA (4.85 FIP) and 1.44 WHIP with four strikeouts and two walks in six relief appearances over 8 1/3 innings for the Philadelphia Phillies in the majors in 2024. Over the course of his four-year big-league career (three with the Arizona Diamondbacks), Gilbert has posted a 4.23 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 68:30 K:BB in an even 100 innings over 34 outings (13 starts).
The Chicago White Sox acquired left-hander Tyler Gilbert from the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday in exchange for minor-league right-hander Aaron Combs. Gilbert had been designated for assignment by the Phillies on Dec. 22. Gilbert will head to the American League in 2025 after appearing only six times out of the Phillies' bullpen in 2024. In his 8 1/3 innings pitched, he allowed three earned runs on 10 hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out four. The 31-year-old former sixth-round selection by the Phillies in 2015 out of the University of Southern California (USC) debuted in the bigs with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021 and holds a career 4.23 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 100 innings over 34 outings (13 starts) in his four seasons. Gilbert will give the rebuilding White Sox a swing arm in 2025, but he won't be on the fantasy radar at all.
The Cincinnati Reds have signed left-hander Tyler Gilbert to a minor-league deal with an invite to big-league spring training. The 30-year-old appeared with the Arizona Diamondbacks in each of the last two seasons, working to a combined 4.32 ERA, 9.6% K-BB%, and 36.9% ground-ball rate in that time. Thirteen of his 28 appearances in the majors have been starts as he owns a 4.39 ERA across 67 2/3 innings as a starter and a 4.13 ERA across 24 frames out of the bullpen. However, all 11 of his MLB appearances last season came as a reliever as he posted a 5.19 ERA in 17 1/3 in the majors to pair with a 5.30 ERA across 30 outings (seven starts) with Triple-A Reno.
The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated left-hander Tyler Gilbert from the paternity list on Wednesday and optioned right-hander Carlos Vargas to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Gilbert has only thrown three innings out of Arizona's bullpen at the major-league level so far in 2023, and he's allowed one earned run on two hits while walking one and striking out two. The 29-year-old southpaw wasn't quite as good in 21 outings (five starts) for Reno, posting a 5.67 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 19 walks and 65 innings in 54 innings pitched. There's a chance that Gilbert could see a start or two in the D-backs' starting rotation early in the second half of the season, but he'll be a desperation streaming option with a low ceiling if he does.
Tyler Gilbert Will Start Tuesday Against The Giants
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Tyler Gilbert will be called up to start Tuesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He has been solid in his last three starts in the minors, yielding three runs or less in his previous four starts. The 28-year-old has struggled for the Diamondbacks this season, posting a 7.88 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 14:6 K: BB across 16 innings in 2022. Fantasy managers should avoid using Gilbert as a streamer in all league formats for Tuesday's main slate.
Tyler Gilbert To Start For Diamondbacks On Tuesday
The Arizona Diamondbacks will be calling up starting pitcher Tyler Gilbert from Triple-A Reno and he will be the team's starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. The 28-year-old has had a rough year on the mound thus far. Over three appearances (two starts) for the Diamondbacks in 2021, he's gone 0-2 with a 5.02 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. Meanwhile, he's posted a 10.65 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP over seven starts at Triple-A.
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Tyler Gilbert is being called up from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday to start the first game of a doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gilbert will likely serve as the 27th man for the doubleheader and will probably be sent back to Reno after the start. In his two major league outings this year (one start), he's allowed two earned runs while walking two and striking out six in 8 2/3 innings. In 14 2/3 frames at Reno, the southpaw has posted an 11.60 ERA and 1.90 WHIP while walking six and fanning five over four starts. Fantasy managers should look to avoid Gilbert against the potent Dodgers offense in the first game of the twin bill Tuesday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled pitcher Tyler Gilbert from Triple-A Reno on Monday. Arizona designated Oliver Perez for assignment in a corresponding move. Gilbert was solid in his spot start Tuesday against the Washington Nationals despite taking the loss. The 28-year-old allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out three across 5 2/3 innings. Gilbert isn't scheduled to start this week, and it's unclear what his role will be now that he's back in the big leagues. The southpaw can be left on the waiver wire in most formats.
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Tyler Gilbert will make a spot start in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. Veteran southpaw Madison Bumgarner is going in Game 1. In his MLB debut last year, Gilbert threw a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres. He had a nice 3.15 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 40 innings over nine outings (six starts), but Gilbert also had a 4.27 FIP, a weak 15.9% strikeout rate and an 8.3% walk rate in his rookie season. The 28-year-old won't be a recommended spot starter in season-long leagues or DFS on Tuesday, and he'll likely head right back to Triple-A Reno after the game.
Tyler Gilbert Placed On Injured List With Elbow Fatigue
The Arizona Diamondbacks placed starting pitcher Tyler Gilbert (elbow) on the 10-day injured list with elbow fatigue on Wednesday. Fellow starter Merrill Kelly was activated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move and he is set to start Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 27-year-old Gilbert had pitched relatively well in his five outings after his no-hitter on August 14. Over nine games (six starts) this year, Gilbert has gone 2-2 with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Given the timing of his injury, there's a good chance we won't see him again in 2021.
