Yacksel Rios Moved To 60-Day Injured List

The Oakland Athletics moved right-hander Yacksel Rios (finger) to the 60-day injured list on July 8 to make room on the 40-man roster for prospect Freddy Tarnok. Rios underwent a procedure on Friday with Stanford vascular surgeon Dr. Jason Lee, but no update was given on a timetable for Rios' return. The 30-year-old reliever left his last outing against the New York Yankees on June 28 after feeling numbness in his right middle and index fingers that was the result of a circulatory condition known as Raynaud's Syndrome. At the very earliest, Rios won't be able to rejoin the A's bullpen until the end of August. The Puerto Rican hurler has allowed seven earned runs while walking six and striking out two in just 1 2/3 innings of work in 2023.

A's Call Up Reliever Yacksel Rios

The Oakland Athletics selected the contract of right-hander Yacksel Rios from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Chad Smith to Las Vegas in a corresponding move. To make room on the 40-man roster, the team moved right-hander Drew Rucinski (illness, knee) to the 60-day injured list. Rios will immediately join the A's big-league roster after the club landed him in a trade from the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. He has not pitched in the big leagues since 2021, when he went a combined 3-0 with a 4.28 ERA (4.89 FIP) with a 1.24 WHIP and 20.2% strikeout rate in 27 1/3 relief innings for the Mariners and Red Sox. The 29-year-old had posted a 2.49 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 25 1/3 innings for Triple-A Gwinnett in 2023, but he won't really be on the fantasy radar.

Yacksel Rios Acquired By Boston

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Yacksel Rios was acquired from the Seattle Mariners Monday for cash considerations. He was optioned to Triple-A Worcester and will take the DFA'd Ryan Weber's spot on the 40-man roster. Rios pitched three innings for Seattle this season, allowing three runs and striking out two. It would be quite the stretch to imagine Rios will make any difference for fantasy managers this year.

Keynan Middleton and Yacksel Rios Demoted To Triple-A

Seattle Mariners relief pitchers Keynan Middleton and Yacksel Rios were sent to Triple-A Tacoma Friday to make room on the active roster for Justin Dunn and Kendall Graveman, who were both returning from the injured list. Middleton is more surprising of the two demotions, as he has four saves on the year, but he has also allowed five runs over his last two outings. Neither Middleton or Rios should remain on fantasy rosters, if they were there to begin with.

Drew Steckenrider, Yacksel Rios Join Mariners Roster

Seattle Mariners relief pitchers Drew Steckenrider (protocols) and Yacksel Rios will join the roster on Saturday. Steckenrider has been activated off the 10-day injured list and Rios was acquired by Seattle earlier this week. Seattle is likely going to have Steckenrider move into high leverage situations, but that doesn't mean he'll carry reliable fantasy value. Fantasy managers should wait-and-see with Steckenrider. Rios was pitching well in the minors, but is expected to be a low leverage option out of the bullpen. Both Robert Dugger and Daniel Zamora have been optioned to the minors in a corresponding move.

Mariners Acquire Yacksel Rios From Rays

Seattle Mariners have received pitcher Yacksel Rios in exchange for cash considerations from the Tampa Bay Rays. He owns a horrendous 6.36 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP and 68/34 K/BB ratio across 69 1/3 innings in his big league career. To be fair, Rios has posted a 0.66 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 17/2 K/BB in the minors this season. It's unlikely he'll see a significant role in Seattle, so fantasy managers can ignore Rios for the moment.

Yacksel Rios Lands On Injured List With Shoulder Ailment

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Yacksel Rios has been placed on the 10-day injured list as he battles inflammation in his pitching shoulder. Rios averaged 96.2 mph on his fastball last season, having thrown a significant amount of sinkers over the previous two years. But thus far in 2020, he has scrapped the pitch, with his fastball velocity dipping to an average of 94.4 mph. The results thus far havent been promising, as he has allowed four runs in four innings. His loss is the latest in a string of injuries that have decimated Pittsburghs bullpen, which has produced a 5.88 ERA coming into play Tuesday.
