Carl Lawson News
The Dallas Cowboys are elevating defensive end Carl Lawson and cornerback Amani Oruwariye from the practice squad for Thursday night's game against the New York Giants. With cornerback Caelan Carson (shoulder) and safety Markquese Bell (ankle) listed as doubtful for the NFC East class, Dallas is bringing up two defensive reinforcements to the 53-man roster. Lawson spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets and racked up seven sacks in 23 games with the organization. Oruwariye appeared in his most recent regular season game with the Detroit Lions in 2022. In 53 career contests, he has totaled 173 tackles and nine interceptions.

Cowboys Sign Carl Lawson To Bolster Defensive Line
The Dallas Cowboys are adding former New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson to their roster. Lawson, who was once a highly anticipated signing for the Jets in 2021 on a three-year, $45 million contract, has had a somewhat disappointing stint, playing in only 23 games over three seasons. The 29-year-old defensive end appeared in six games last year without making a start, though he did start all 17 games the previous year. Dallas will be hoping Lawson can contribute consistently to their defensive line. Despite significant injuries, including a torn ACL in college and a torn Achilles that sidelined him for the entire 2021 season, Lawson has shown he can be a valuable pass rusher, as demonstrated during his time with both the Jets and his initial four seasons with the Bengals. Lawson joins the Cowboys just weeks before the season opener, bolstering the team's defensive depth following their recent trade with the New York Giants for defensive tackle Jordan Phillips.

Carl Lawson Unhappy With Playing Time
New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson is frustrated with his current role on the team. The 28-year-old has been a healthy scratch in two of the first six games of the season. When active, Lawson has three tackles and zero sacks so far. Lawson believes that he can contribute more than he has been able to. He's probably right considering he registered 33 tackles and seven sacks with the Jets last season. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Jets attempt to move Lawson at the upcoming trade deadline.

Carl Lawson Might Not Be Ready For Week 1
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said he's unsure if defensive end Carl Lawson (back) will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Beyond Lawson, John Franklin-Myers, Jermaine Johnson, Micheal Clemons, Bryce Huff and first-rounder Will McDonald are the team's options at edge rusher entering the 2023 regular season. The 28-year-old Lawson has dealt with a back injury during training camp and isn't expected to return to practice this week, putting his availability in question for the start of the season this year. Lawson missed all of the 2021 season due to injury in his first year in New York, but he returned last year to produce 33 tackles (18 solo), seven sacks, nine tackles for loss, 24 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 17 starts.

Carl Lawson Agrees To Restructured Deal
New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson agreed to a restructured contract on Thursday, according to a source. Lawson was due a non-guaranteed $15 million this year, but he'll now be due a base value of $9 million, with $8 million of it guaranteed. Lawson will have $3 million more available in incentives. The restructure creates $12.7 million in salary cap space in 2023 for the Jets. The 27-year-old is entering his second year for Gang Green in 2023 after he had 33 tackles (18 solo), seven sacks, nine tackles for loss, 24 QB hits and a fumble recovery in 17 regular season games in 2022. Lawson should once again have a pretty prominent pass-rushing role for the Jets' improved defense this year.

Carl Lawson Emerging For The Jets
New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson was given $45 million last year to be a dominant pass-rusher, but instead he missed the entire season due to injuries. However, he appears to be emerging after six training camp practices this summer. The team's deep defensive end group has looked good so far in training camp, but none more than Lawson. "He's a freak. I'm excited for him. He does all the right things," quarterback Zach Wilson said. "He hangs out in the backfield with us a little too much." The 27-year-old will start on the defensive line this year for Gang Green, but he's unlikely to be a force in IDP leagues. Lawson had 8.5 sacks for the Cincinnati Bengals in his rookie season in 2017, but he posted just 11.5 sacks combined the following three seasons, and he's never had more than 18 solo tackles in a single season.

Jets Expect Carl Lawson To Be Ready
The New York Jets expect defensive end Carl Lawson (Achilles) to be ready for Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens after he suffered an Achilles injury during last year's training camp that caused him to miss all of 2021 in his first season with the team. Early in training camp this summer, the Jets might opt to err on the side of caution and keep Lawson off the field to give him more time to rehab. The 26-year-old signed a three-year, $45 million deal before getting injured last year. The former fourth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017 out of Auburn had 5.5 sacks, a career-high 36 tackles (18 solo), four tackles for loss, 32 QB hits and two forced fumbles in 16 games in his last season with the Bengals in 2020. A healthy Lawson would be great news for the Jets defensive line.

Carl Lawson Suffers Season-Ending Achilles Injury
New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson (Achilles) will miss the entire 2021 regular season. The veteran pass rusher suffered a ruptured Achilles during practice on Thursday. This is a tough blow especially after the team signed Lawson to a three-year deal worth $45 million this past offseason. The 26-year-old was going to be a key part to the Jets defense, so his absence is a significant blow to the team. Bryce Huff replaced Lawson in practice, but Sheldon Rankins and John Franklin-Myers should be in the mix as well. On paper, this defense is towards the bottom in the league and can be avoided in most fantasy formats.

Jets Defense Adds Carl Lawson
The New York Jets agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal with former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carl Lawson on Monday. The deal includes $30 million guaranteed. His $15 million-per-year average makes him the highest-paid player on the team. Lawson should bolster a pass-rushing unit that is planning to use a 4-3 front for the first time since 2005. Since 2015, the Jets have ranked 26th in the league in sacks. New York plans to use Lawson in tandem with rising star Quinnen Williams. The 25-year-old Lawson was one of the most disruptive pass-rushers in the league in 2020. He tallied 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, but he was constantly disrupting opposing backfields. Lawson created 10.5 sacks, which ranked seventh in the NFL, and he also ranked 14th in pass-rush win rate.

Carl Lawson Suffers Torn ACL
Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carl Lawson (knee) suffered a torn ACL in Week 8 against the Buccaneers and will miss the rest of the season, according to a source. Lawson came into this Sunday with only six tackles and one sack in seven games, but it's nevertheless a blow to Cincy's defensive line and their struggling defense.
