Easton Stick News
The Los Angeles Chargers have decided to rest many of their starters this preseason, but there are still plenty of spots to be figured out on the depth chart. One of those battles will be the No. 2 quarterback spot behind Justin Herbert. Veteran Chase Daniel entered camp as the No. 2 quarterback, but after a rough Week 1 of the preseason, third-year quarterback Easton Stick drew the start in Week 2 versus the San Francisco 49ers. Stick took advantage of his playing time and had a strong first half. He completed 10 of his 14 passes for touchdown pass and also chipped with 15 yards on three rushing attempts. Daniel struggled in the second half by going 14-for-21 for 60 yards and an interception. Herbert is entrenched as the starting the quarterback, but the Chargers will need to decide if they want to go with the veteran or the young arm to backup Herbert. Week 3's preseason game versus the Seattle Seahawks could be what determines the winner, but it should only matter in the fantasy world if Herbert were to get hurt and miss time during the season. If that were the case, both options would be questionable, but Stick would provide the higher upside.
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Easton Stick worked as the starter in Sunday's preseason game versus the San Francisco 49ers and played the entire first half. Stick got the start with the Chargers electing to rest starter Justin Herbert for the entire preseason. Stick got off to a rough start and was sacked for a safety in the second quarter, but otherwise had a solid performance. The third-year quarterback would finish his half of work by going 10-for-14 with a three-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Josh Palmer. Stick also chipped with 15 yards on three rushing attempts. The former North Dakota State Bison is competing with veteran Chase Daniel for the No. 2 spot behind Justin Herbert, but holds no value for fantasy managers with Herbert entering the season as one of the top-10 quarterback.
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Easton Stick is still officially in the running to make the team, but after Thursday's performance, it's hard to imagine how. Stick took over from Cardale Jones in the second half, and the entire offense fell apart. While Jones led four straight scoring drives to start the first half, Stick led two three-and-outs with two first-play interceptions sprinkled in. He was able to guide the backups to a late score to win the game, but the ugliness of the earlier drives was the real takeaway from the evening. Stick may find a way to land on the practice squad, but either way, he definitely doesn't look ready for the big-time yet.
