Nate Wiggins News
The Baltimore Ravens have signed first-round defensive back Nate Wiggins to his rookie deal. The Ravens have also locked up second-round offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten, fourth-round defensive back T.J. Tampa and seventh-round defensive back Sanoussi Kane. The Ravens made Wiggins their first pick of this year's NFL draft with the 30th overall selection out of Clemson. The 20-year-old cornerback stands a 6-foot-1, 173 pounds, so durability is going to be his primary issue as he transitions to the NFL. He'll have room to grow and get stronger, though, and his elite speed and coverage ability stood out enough for Baltimore to make him a first-rounder. As long as Wiggins doesn't get set back by injuries, he should develop into a serviceable DB for the Ravens in time.
The Baltimore Ravens selected Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday night. Wiggins is tall, long and fast with rare recovery speed at the cornerback position. "He has better physical talent than Devon Witherspoon, but he doesn't have that same level of dog in him. That's probably the biggest difference right now. I think Wiggins is the better prospect, though," according to an NFC national scout. If Wiggins can play with more decisiveness, he could very well become a Pro Bowler at the next level. The 20-year-old isn't very big (6-foot-1, 173 pounds), though, and he could have trouble wrapping up and stopping the run. Wiggins needs to get bigger and stronger, but early on, his elite speed will cover up some of his weaknesses.
The Philadelphia Eagles need help at cornerback, which is why The Athletic's Bruce Feldman predicts them taking Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the 22nd overall pick in the first round of this year's NFL draft. Kool-Aid McKinstry could also be their pick in this spot, but the 6-foot-1, 173-pound Wiggins has ridiculous recovery speed (4.28-second 40-yard dash) and tons of upside. The 20-year-old led the Tigers in pass breakups in 2023 with nine and also had two interceptions, one of which was run back for a touchdown. "I think he's the best kid we played. I love that kid. Love his effort, how he competes. Great speed. Great burst, and he plays hard. He's got the measurables. Two plays stuck out in my mind. They're playing Miami and he ran a kid down and stripped him on the goal line. Then, he did the same thing to a guy at Carolina. I think he's an All-Pro caliber player," one coach said.
