Joseph Woll News
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll will be between the pipes for Tuesday's road game against the Florida Panthers. Ilya Samsonov has started each of the last two games and four of the last five but it will be Woll going Tuesday with Wednesday's starter to be determined against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Woll took over the starter's role early in the season over the then-struggling Samsonov but suffered a high-ankle sprain in a Dec. 7 win over the Ottawa Senators and didn't return until Feb. 29. He hasn't been as sharp since getting back but still owns a solid 2.88 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage across 24 games (22 starts) on the season. Samsonov is likely to start Game 1 of the postseason while Woll will serve as the backup.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll is likely to start Wednesday's road game against the Washington Capitals. It's the second game of a back-to-back for the Maple Leafs after dropping a 4-3 decision to the Flyers on Tuesday in Philadelphia. It's Woll's first start since March 7 as Ilya Samsonov has started the last four games. Woll initially took over the No. 1 job from Samsonov when the latter struggled early in the season but a high-ankle sprain suffered in a Dec. 7 win over the Ottawa Senators sidelined him for nearly three months. He owns a 2.89 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 18 games (16 starts) on the season, including an .881 Sv% in three starts since returning.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll (ankle) returned for the first time since Dec. 7 on Thursday and was instrumental in a 4-2 win over the visiting Arizona Coyotes. The 25-year-old steered aside 30 of the 32 shots he faced (.938 save percentage) and improved to a 2.75 goals-against average and a .918 Sv% across 16 outings (14 starts) on the season. Woll earned his ninth win in that time and first since a Nov. 30 victory over the Seattle Kraken via the shootout. Woll appeared in a single conditioning-game stint with the AHL's Toronto Marlies and made 36 saves on 37 shots (.973 Sv%) in a winning effort. With the win, the Maple Leafs improved to 34-17-8 on the season, good for third spot in the Atlantic Division.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll (ankle) will be back between the pipes for Thursday's home game versus the Arizona Coyotes. The 25-year-old has been out since suffering a high-ankle sprain in a Dec. 7 win over the Ottawa Senators. The Leafs recalled Woll from his AHL conditioning stint earlier in the week. Woll was excellent prior to his injury, working to a 2.80 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage across 15 games (13 starts), going 8-5-1 in that time. He had overtaken the starting role from the then-struggling Ilya Samsonov, but considering Samsonov has been far better of late, there should be more of a timeshare in the Leafs' crease moving forward.
