Ben Bowden Inks Minors Deal With Braves

The Atlanta Braves have signed left-handed pitcher Ben Bowden to a minor-league contract. The 29-year-old spent the 2023 season pitching at Triple-A in the Phillies' organization, working to a 4.64 ERA across 49 relief outings, notching five saves in the process. He has largely pitched in the Rockies' organization in his professional career before bouncing around of late. He logged 39 MLB appearances with the Rockies in the 2021 season, working to a 6.56 ERA with unhealthy walk and ground-ball rates in tow. His recent Triple-A results have been discouraging, as well, but he at least gives the Braves a left-handed relief option should he bounce back in the 2024 campaign.

Ben Bowden Takes The Loss On Tuesday For Colorado

Colorado Rockies left-handed pitcherBen Bowden took the loss on Tuesday when he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits over one inning pitched in the 10-8 extra-innings loss to the Diamondbacks. Bowden entered a 7-7 ball game in the top of the 13th inning and got two quick outs before running into trouble. He gave up back-to-back singles to Stephen Vogt and Matt Peacock, the latter deflected off Trevor Story's glove before Ketel Marte smoked a two-run double. The Rockies would fail to retake the lead in the bottom of the frame, so Bowden was saddled with the loss. He's now allowed five runs (four earned) through 2 1/3 innings of relief this season. He's not on the fantasy radar whatsoever.

Ben Bowden Likely Out Another Month

Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Ben Bowden (back) hasn't made much progress from lower back soreness and is likely to be out for another month, according to manager Bud Black. Ranked as the team's No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, at the end of last season, the 25-year-old southpaw has a chance to be a true impact reliever at the back end of the bullpen for the Rockies. However, his development will be halted to begin the 2020 season, and he might not be an option until later this year or in 2021. Bowden has the ability to miss bats and could be in the mix for a high-leverage role in the team's bullpen whenever he gets to the majors.
