Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Brendan White has looked sharp early in spring training. Jason Beck of MLB.com noted that the 26-year-old looked "strong" and flashed his "high-spin arsenal." Last season, White was limited to just seven 1/3 innings due to an elbow injury. He underwent a hydro-dissection procedure Tuesday to address radial nerve-related symptoms in August. However, seeing him look sharp in the early part of spring training is a positive sign. He made his MLB debut during the 2023 campaign and posted a 5.09 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP across 40 2/3 innings of work. He struck out 44 batters and generated ground balls at a strong 51.3 percent rate. When healthy, fantasy managers should expect the Siena College product to compete for a low-leverage role in the bullpen.
Detroit Tigers right-hander Brendan White (elbow), who is dealing with a right radial nerve injury in his elbow, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. White had a hydro-dissection surgery on his elbow last month, and this is the first time that he will be throwing off a mound. The 25-year-old has already been ruled out for the rest of the season, so he won't be able to help the Tigers if they somehow secure the final wild-card spot in the American League for the playoffs. White is now hoping to be setback-free as he enters the offseason so that he'll be fully ready to go for spring training next February and the start of the 2025 season next spring. The former 26th-round pick in 2019 out of Siena College made his big-league debut last year with Detroit and had a 5.09 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP and a 44:15 K:BB in 40 2/3 frames over 33 outings (two starts).
Detroit Tigers right-hander Brendan White (elbow) has been experiencing posterior right-elbow soreness in camp and will complete a short period of rest before re-starting his throwing program. Fellow right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long (groin) reported left-groin discomfort after throwing a bullpen session last week in which imaging confirmed a left-groin strain. White's injury could hurt his chances of winning a roster spot in Detroit's bullpen to start the year. The 25-year-old had a 5.09 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 44 K's and 15 walks in 40 2/3 innings over 33 outings (two starts) in his rookie year in 2023. Gipson-Long, 26, is probably unlikely to win a starting-rotation spot out of spring training this year, especially now that he's hurt.
