Brennen Davis To Miss Significant Time With Back Fracture

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis (back) suffered a back fracture and is expected to miss a significant amount of time on the farm. The Cubs have no specific timetable for his return. Davis was moved to the seven-day injured list on Tuesday with Triple-A Iowa. It's bad news for the team's No. 22 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. In addition to the serious injury, the 24-year-old former second-rounder in 2018 has hit just .229 (24-for-105) with 10 home runs, 26 RBI and 25 runs scored in 36 games this year for Iowa. On the bright side, Davis has shown off his power stroke while displaying a good eye at the plate. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed hitter was on track to potentially make his major-league debut in 2024, but his back fracture probably makes that unlikely now.

Brennen Davis Riding Four-Game Home Run Streak

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis has launched a home run in each of his past four games entering Friday evening. Through 20 games with Triple-A Iowa, the 24-year-old has posted a .241/.411/.574 line with six long balls and a 13:18 BB:K ratio. Davis was once considered one of the top prospects in the Chicago system but has suffered numerous injuries that have kept him off the field. However, now that he is healthy, he is once again showcasing his elite talent and quickly making headlines. Davis could make a case to join the major league roster later in the summer and is worth keeping an eye on in deeper dynasty formats and can become a stash-candidate if he continues this incredible power surge.

Brennen Davis Homers In Return To Triple-A

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer for Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday. His home run came off Alek Manoah in the top of the third inning. This was the outfielders first game in Iowa this season after returning from an arm injury that he suffered in spring training. Davis, 24, has slowly dropped from the Cubs top prospect over the past few seasons and injuries have been a big reason as he likely would have made his debut sometime in the past two seasons. Davis offers good power potential, but the Cubs have already promoted outfield prospects Alexander Canario and Pete Crow-Armstrong, so for now Davis will continue to swing the bat for Iowa. Outside of deeper dynasty leagues, Davis can be ignored for now.

Brennen Davis In Concussion Protocol

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis (concussion) was hit by a pitch in Tuesday's Cactus League game and is in the concussion protocol. He will be sidelined until he's able to clear the league's protocols for head injuries. The 24-year-old's concussion is considered mild, so hopefully he'll be able to get back to work sooner than later in camp. The former second-round pick by the Cubs in 2018 out of high school has an extensive injury history in the minors and has only played in 100-plus games once in five minor-league seasons. Davis slashed .187/.296/.279 with four home runs, 26 RBI and nine stolen bases in 62 games with Triple-A Iowa in 2023 and is ticketed for Iowa again to start the 2024 campaign.

Brennen Davis Homers For First Time Since May

Chicago Cubs prospect Brennen Davis homered for the first time in nearly four months on Tuesday. This was Davis' fourth rehab appearance with High-A South Bend following a core muscle surgery in June. Several injuries have hindered his development, and Davis has dropped remarkably in Chicago's prospect hierarchy. The 23-year-old ranks as the No. 19 farmhand in the Cubs' system after being regarded as a top-15 prospect in all of baseball in 2022, per MLB Pipeline. Davis' power-hitting upside is his most noteworthy attribute, though it has come at the expense of his ability to hit for average. He certainly won't be making an MLB appearance any time soon. Still, Davis is an interesting name to track if he can stay healthy and rediscover his groove at the plate.

Cubs Send Brennen Davis, Pete Crow-Armstrong Down

The Chicago Cubs optioned outfielder Brennen Davis to Triple-A Iowa and sent center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong to minor-league camp on Friday as part of their roster cuts in spring training. Davis is healthy after dealing with back issues in 2022, but he and Crow-Armstrong will be given more time to work on their craft down on the farm to begin the 2023 season. Davis struggled as Chicago's top prospect in 2022, but his back injury was most likely to blame. He still has a high ceiling due to his raw power at the plate. Crow-Armstrong is another one of the Cubs' top prospects, but he still has time to mature in the minors and hasn't played above High-A. Fantasy managers should expect both Davis and Crow-Armstrong to spend all of 2023 on the farm.

Brennen Davis To Miss The Rest Of Arizona Fall League

Chicago Cubs outfielder Brennen Davis (back) will miss the rest of the Arizona Fall League. This is not good news after Davis missed most of the season due to surgery on his legs. Luckily, this sounds like it's only back tightness, so hopefully it won't linger into Spring Training. The Cubs were expected to add Davis to their 40-man roster this winter. The 22-year-old was likely to debut in Chicago next season, but those plans might've changed. Hopefully, Davis can get healthy and contribute next season.

Brennen Davis Knocks In Two Runs For High-A

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis went 1-for-5 with a pair of RBI in his third rehab game for High-A South Bend. Davis was expected to be with the Cubs at some point this season, but a back injury sidelined him for the majority of the season. The rebuilding Cubs can still give Davis a chance in the final weeks of the season, but his impact for fantasy managers in redraft leagues would be minimal. Arguably the Cubs best prospect, Davis will enter 2023 with a true shot at breaking camp with the team and could make an impact for both the Cubs and fantasy managers with his ability to get on base and hit for power. Dynasty managers should be rostering Davis and managers in redraft leagues would be wise to file his name away for next year.

Brennen Davis Begins Rehab Assignment

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis (back) began his rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Monday and went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and three strikeouts while serving as the designated hitter. It wasn't a great first game back, but the 22-year-old was playing in his first game since May 3 after undergoing back surgery in early June. The Cubs will be cautious with their top overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he should eventually be returned to Triple-A Iowa when the Cubs feel he's ready. In 22 games for Iowa before his injury earlier this year, Davis was hitting only .195 (15-for-77) with two home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored. He's unlikely to make his major league debut in 2022, but Davis should already be on the radar in dynasty/keeper leagues because of his intriguing blend of power and speed.

Brennen Davis Returns To Practice

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis (back) has returned to the practice field and could return to game action in two to three weeks. The talented outfielder opened the season in Triple-A but has only played in 22 games this year. In that time, Davis hit .195 with two homers before undergoing back surgery. The 22-year-old was expected to make his big-league debut this year, and he still can, depending on how his back feels during his recovery. For now, it's unlikely Davis makes a major impact in redraft leagues, but managers in dynasty leagues should roster Davis and monitor his health over the next few weeks.
