Edward Olivares News
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares (quad) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Saturday and is starting against the Boston Red Sox. The 26-year-old outfielder was out for two months with a left quad strain but he's back with the Royals on Saturday and batting sixth against Rich Hill. Olivares is slashing .303/.358/.434 with three home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases across 99 at-bats this season with Kansas City and should see everyday at-bats for the remainder of the regular season. Nick Pratto was optioned to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares led off on Thursday in Toronto, and he did his job, reaching base in all four plate appearances. He was 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI before being lifted for a pinch runner. Olivares doesn't offer a huge amount of power or speed, with just three homers and two steals on the year, but he's slashed .412/.500/.412 over his last seven games and could make an intriguing short-term pickup, at least for the next few days while the Royals have lost so many unvaccinated players for the series in Toronto and playing time will be readily available.
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares (quadriceps), who has been on the injured list since May 9 with a right quadriceps strain, will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha on Friday. Olivares will likely need a pretty lengthy rehab assignment considering how much time he's missed, so he probably won't return to the Royals until later this month. Before the injury he was hitting well in 15 games, going 13-for-35 (.371) with no home runs, three RBI, five runs scored and two stolen bases in 38 plate appearances. In three major leagues seasons, Olivares has hit .259/.301/.405 with eight homers, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored and four stolen bases in 85 games played.
