Nestor Cortes Placed On 15-Day Injured List
The Milwaukee Brewers have placed starting pitcher Nestor Cortes (elbow) on the 15-day injured list due to a left elbow flexor strain. In a corresponding move, the team promoted left-handed pitcher Grant Wolfram from Triple-A Nashville. After a tough Milwaukee debut against his former club in the Bronx, the southpaw was able to bounce back in his second outing, tossing six shutout innings with just one hit and two walks. He struck out six. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but this injury could keep Cortes sidelined for longer than the 15-day minimum. Cortes will join a long list of Milwaukee starting pitchers who are currently sidelined, such as Tobias Myers (oblique), Brandon Woodruff (shoulder), and Aaron Civale (hamstring). With Cortes hitting the IL, Chad Patrick and Elvin Rodriguez should continue to see opportunities in the starting rotation.

Xavier Edwards Scratched With Knee Soreness
Miami Marlins shortstop Xavier Edwards (knee) is a late scratch on Sunday due to right knee soreness. Christine De Nicola of MLB.com reported that Edwards initially suffered this injury during the second game of the season and reaggravated it on Saturday. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status leading up to their next game on Monday evening against the New York Mets. Instead, the Marlins will turn to Javier Sanoja to serve as their shortstop. He will bat ninth. Through the first nine games of the regular season, Edwards has posted a .250/.317/.333 slash line with three doubles, a 4:10 BB:K, and two stolen bases. He enjoyed an impressive finish to the 2024 season, swiping 31 bags with a .328 AVG across 70 contests. Sanoja is not worth targeting in DFS facing Atlanta right-hander Grant Holmes.

Luis Torrens Remains Out With Forearm Injury
New York Mets catcher Luis Torrens (forearm) will remain out of the starting nine on Sunday when the Mets conclude a series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Torrens was a late scratch on Saturday evening and will remain sidelined for the series finale. The Mets will instead give catching duties to Hayden Senger for the second-straight contest. Fantasy managers should monitor Torrens' status leading up to their next game against the Marlins on Monday evening. With Francisco Alvarez (hand) on the injured list, Torrens has opened the campaign as the primary backstop in Queens. Through his first eight games of the season, Torrens has held a .300/.333/.550 slash line with one home run and two doubles. Senger is not worth targeting in DFS this afternoon, facing Bowden Francis.

Nick Fortes Remains Sidelined On Sunday
Miami Marlins catcher Nick Fortes (neck) remains sidelined on Sunday when the Marlins conclude a series against the Atlanta Braves. Fortes was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to a neck injury. He was also held out of action on Friday. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be placed on the injured list if the injury begins to linger. As a result, Miami will give catching duties to Liam Hicks. Hicks will bat in the seven-hole against Atlanta right-hander Grant Holmes. Through his first six games of the season, Fortes has held a solid .308/.357/.615 line with two doubles and a triple. Hicks enters Sunday riding a three-game hitting streak and could be a sneaky value option in DFS given that Holmes struggled in his first start of the campaign.

Matt McLain Not Playing On Sunday
Cincinnati Reds infielder Matt McLain (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday afternoon's matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers. McLain has been scratched from the starting nine over the past two games due to a hamstring injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Monday evening in San Francisco. As a result, Santiago Espinal will get the starting nod at the keystone and bat second. Prior to his four-game hitless streak, McClain was enjoying an impressive start to the campaign, posting a .300/.364/.800 slash line with one double and three round-trippers over his first five games of the campaign. Espinal is worth a look as a value play in DFS facing Milwaukee right-hander Chad Patrick.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (undisclosed) will remain out of the starting lineup for Game 1 of their double-header against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. Abreu was a late scratch on Saturday due to an undisclosed injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to Game 2 later this evening. In the opening game, Rob Refsnyder will cover right field and bat sixth. Abreu has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, holding a .500/.621/1.000 slash line with two doubles and three home runs through eight contests. He has held a 7:2 BB:K and swiped one bag. He has tallied at least one hit in all but two contests. When healthy, fantasy managers should view Abreu as a must-start option given his hot start. If he cannot return later on Sunday, he will look to enter the starting nine on Monday evening, when they face the Blue Jays. UPDATE: Abreu is reportedly fine and is likely to play Game 2 of a doubleheader on Sunday evening.

Cody Bellinger Active On Sunday
New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger (back) is returning to the starting nine on Sunday when the Yankees conclude a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bellinger has missed the first two games of this series due to back stiffness. However, the 29-year-old was able to be cleared for action. He will bat second and cover right field, which will move Aaron Judge to the designated hitter spot. Through his first six games as a Yankee, Bellinger has held a .238/.296/.381 slash line with one long ball. He has brought in six runs and scored five. Bellinger has typically seen time in center field, but given how well Trent Grisham has performed lately, he will continue to hold that spot in the lineup. Grisham has gone deep three times over his last three games. The Yankees are a top lineup to target in DFS facing Pittsburgh southpaw Andrew Heaney.

Chris Bassitt Strikes Out Nine In No-Decision
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings on Saturday, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out nine batters, but he did not factor into the decision in the 3-2 loss to the Mets. Through two turns in the rotation -- one at home and one on the road -- the veteran has looked good, posting a 0.71 ERA (0.89 FIP), 1.11 WHIP, and a 27.5 percent K-BB% (2:16 BB:K). Coming off a year in which he posted the worst full-season ERA and WHIP of his career, this was not to be expected, but with a solid career ERA of 3.56 and 1.23 WHIP, he's always been fairly good. However, looking closer, from April 9 to June 29 last season, the righty posted a 2.76 ERA before fading to a 5.38 ERA from July on. Fantasy managers may want to consider packaging Bassitt up in a trade, as there's sure to be some regression coming. The former All-Star will take on the Red Sox on the road in his next start on Thursday.

Ryan McMahon Hits Home Run No. 1 On Saturday
Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Athletics. It was the first home run of the season for the former All-Star and first multi-hit effort since Opening Day. The left-handed hitter has a .267/.303/.400 slash line with a .304 wOBA and 83 wRC+ through eight games. It's still early, so hopefully he can improve upon the 2:12 BB:K he's currently registering. The 30-year-old has been very durable, playing in at least 141 games every season since 2019 (excluding 2020), and has produced at least 20 home runs in each of those seasons, but always seems to leave fantasy managers feeling a little empty with not one of those seasons coming in any higher than a 97 wRC+. Nevertheless, he is probably worthy of at least a bench spot in most 12-team leagues, and fantasy managers will hope he can contribute on the days he is needed in the lineup.

Carlos Santana Homers In Another Multi-Hit Effort
Cleveland Guardians first baseman Carlos Santana opened up the scoring on Saturday with a 415-foot solo home run off of Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz in the first inning, but Cleveland would go on to lose 10-4 to the Halos. Santana would finish 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored. The former All-Star now has three multi-hit games in his last five games and now owns a .290/.343/.452 slash line with a .332 wOBA and 115 wRC+. The 38-year-old has shown he can still hit, making good contact (84.1 percent Contact%) and not striking out at a high rate (14.3 percent K%), and is coming off a season in which he played 150 games with 23 home runs in two consecutive seasons now, so fantasy managers who are deploying the veteran should have confidence in continuing to use his services until he shows signs of a slowdown. It may not be the prettiest of all waiver wire pickups, but managers looking for some bench help could consider the switch-hitter who is owned in just nine percent of Yahoo leagues.

Jorge Soler Hits Two-Run Home Run On Saturday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler went 1-for-4 on Saturday, blasting his first home run of the season in the 10-4 win over the Guardians. The veteran drove in two runs, scored twice, and was also hit by a pitch in the contest. The former All-Star has a hit in six of eight games thus far, however, it hasn't amounted to much as he owns a .207-1-3-4-0 stat line with a .285 wOBA and 80 wRC+. Long known not only for his power, but also his ability to draw a walk, the 33-year-old has just two walks in 34 plate appearances, coming in at a 5.9 percent rate, which is his lowest rate since the 2015 season (10.7 percent career mark). Hopefully Saturday's home run gets him going, otherwise, fantasy managers who didn't spend much draft capital on him might start looking elsewhere for better production.

Mike Trout Homers In Third Straight Game On Saturday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Guardians. In addition to the two RBI, he also scored twice in the contest. That now makes three consecutive games with a home run for the veteran and four straight with an extra-base hit. Despite that, the former 3x AL MVP is hitting just .172 (5-for-29) through eight games. All told, the 33-year-old has a .172/.278/.517 slash line with three home runs, eight RBI, six runs scored, no steals, a .318 wOBA, and a 103 wRC+. While it is still early, fantasy managers who drafted the 11x All-Star will want to see him raise his batting average more and steal a few bases. He'll have a chance to collect a couple of hits on Sunday when the Angels face the Guardians' Luis Ortiz in the series finale. Ortiz allowed nine hits, four walks, and seven earned runs his last time out.

Matt Mervis Homers Twice, Collects Three RBI
Miami Marlins first baseman Matt Mervis homered in the top of the first inning to put his team up 2-0, then added an insurance run in the seventh with a 421-foot solo blast that put the game at 4-0, which was the final score in Saturday's win over the Braves. Mervis would finish 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored on the night. The left-handed hitter came into the game with just two hits in five games, but is now 5-for-20 (.250) through six games played, with the home runs being the first two extra-base hits so far. The 6-foot-2 slugger is known for his power, hitting as many as 36 home runs in a single season in the minors, but strikeouts have been a limiting factor for him at the major league level. The 26-year-old has 1:9 BB:K thus far in 2025, with the nine strikeouts representing a 40.9 percent K%, compared to a 22.8 percent rate during his minor league career. If he can manage to make more contact, then additional power output would follow, but for now, Mervis is probably best left to the waiver wire in most leagues outside of NL-only formats.

Jung Hoo Lee Hits Two Doubles, Scores Twice
San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee went 3-for-4 with two runs during their victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday afternoon. Lee tallied his first double of the afternoon in the fourth inning. He then swiped third base and scored on a Matt Chapman double. Then in the sixth, Lee would hit his second double of the afternoon and then cross home plate, on another Chapman double. He would tally his third hit of the contest with a single in the seventh inning. This outing extended his hitting streak to six games. Since going 0-for-2 with two walks on Opening Day, Lee has held a .346/.370/.538 slash line with five doubles during this six-game hitting streak. The 26-year-old will look to push his hitting streak to seven games on Sunday, facing Seattle right-handed Bryan Woo.

Jesse Winker Hits Two Triples, Brings In Two Runs
New York Mets outfielder Jesse Winker went 3-for-4 with two triples and two RBI during their victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Winker would tally his first hit of the contest, with a double in the second inning. Later in the fourth, he would hit his first triple of the contest. In the eighth, Winker would tally his third hit of the contest, with another triple that scored both Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto. After posting a modest .154/.313/.154 line through the first five games of the campaign, Winker was able to break his skid in a big way on Saturday. Last season, the 31-year-old held a .253/.360/.405 slash line with 14 home runs and 14 stolen bases, splitting time with the Nationals and Mets. Fantasy managers should continue to expect Winker to be deployed on the strong side of a platoon at the designated hitter spot. He will likely remain in the starting nine on Sunday to face right-hander Bowden Francis.

Roki Sasaki Allows One Run Across Four Innings
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki allowed one run across four innings of work in his start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon. Sasaki was given a no decision. He struck out four batters and allowed three hits and two walks. Sasaki allowed two straight singles to open the contest but was able to escape the inning by allowing just one run, off an Alec Bohm RBI groundout. This was a nice bounce-back for Sasaki, as he was only able to log one 2/3 innings in his previous outing against the Detroit Tigers. In this start, he allowed three hits, four walks, and a run. The 23-year-old saw similar issues in his first start of the campaign overseas, facing the Cubs, as he allowed three hits and two walks across four innings of work. While Sasaki carries elite strikeout upside, his lack of control does add a lot of risk. He will look to continue to develop in his next start against the Cubs.

Mitchell Parker Logs Quality Start Against Arizona
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Mitchell Parker logged six innings of one-run ball en route to earning the victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday afternoon. Parker allowed just two hits and served up four free passes. He struck out two. While he did not provide impressive strikeout totals, he was able to quiet the Arizona offense all afternoon. His lone blemish came on a Randal Grichuk RBI single in the sixth inning. Parker also performed well in his first start of the campaign, tossing six shutout frames (with seven hits) against the Philadelphia Phillies. Last season, the southpaw held a 4.29 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP across 151 innings of work. Given his low strikeout upside, he only carries value in deeper formats. He will look to pick up his third-straight victory over Miami in his next outing.

Kerry Carpenter Hits Two-Run Shot On Saturday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter went 1-for-5 with a two-run shot during Saturday's victory over the Chicago White Sox. Carpenter went deep in the second inning off Chicago right-hander Chris Martin. His home run also scored Justyn-Henry Malloy. This was Carpenter's third home run over the past two contests as he went deep twice in Friday's victory over the White Sox. Through the first eight games of the campaign, Carpenter has posted a .250/.241/.607 slash line with one double and three round-trippers. He has tallied eight RBI and scored four runs. Through the early part of the campaign, Carpenter has seen time in both left and right fields. Last season, the 27-year-old posted a .284/.345/.587 slash line with 18 round-trippers. He remains a must-start option as he continues this power surge.

Clarke Schmidt Strikes Out Seven In Rehab Start
New York Yankees right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt (shoulder) tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings during his rehab outing with Double-A on Saturday. Schmidt allowed just one hit and a walk while striking out seven batters. This was an impressive showing for Schmidt, who opened the campaign on the 15-day injured list due to rotator-cuff tendinitis. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but Schmidt will likely need at least one more rehab appearance to fully build up his workload. In this start, he only threw 52 pitches. Last season, the 29-year-old missed time as well but was effective when he was on the bump, holding a 2.85 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings of work. He struck out 93 batters while generating a .225 xBA. When healthy, fantasy managers should expect Schmidt to replace Carlos Carrasco or Will Warren in the starting rotation.

Shohei Ohtani Has "Positive" Bullpen On Saturday
Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (elbow) incorporated sliders during a bullpen session in Philadelphia on Saturday that manager Dave Roberts called "positive." Ohtani threw 26 pitches before the team's 3-2 win over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park as he gets closer to fully recovering from right-elbow surgery he had back on Sept. 19 of 2023. It was the 30-year-old right-hander's second bullpen session after pausing his mound sessions on Feb. 25 to ramp up for Opening Day as a hitter. There's no timetable for when the three-time MVP will be ready to make his 2025 debut on the mound for the Blue, but when he does, the Dodgers are expected to use a six-man rotation, which will give him extra rest. Although Ohtani is more attractive in fantasy as a hitter after his record-breaking season in 2024, he still has plenty of upside for his arm after going 38-19 with a 3.01 ERA and 608 K's in 481 2/3 innings as a pitcher.
