Garrett Cleavinger Fantasy Stats

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Garrett Cleavinger earned his second save of the season on Wednesday in his team's 7-5 win over the Red Sox. Cleavinger gave up a home run to Caleb Durbin and issued a walk ot Isiah Kiner-Falefa, but he struck out Andruw Monasterio to end the game. Closer Bryan Baker had worked in each of the previous two games, earning back-to-back saves. Baker has a 1.98 ERA and 18 saves this season, tied for the second-most in the majors. Cleavinger isn't likely to supplant Baker anytime soon, barring injury, but he has been effective in a setup role and could earn an occasional save chance like this one. The 32-year-old lefty is 1-2 with a 4.70 ERA and 4.02 FIP across his 15 1/3 innings this season. Cleavinger can be useful in leagues that value setup stats, but he's best left for deep leagues, while Baker continues to be so effective.

The Tampa Bay Rays announced on Friday that they placed left-hander Garrett Cleavinger (calf) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to March 31) with right-calf tightness and recalled right-hander Hunter Bigge from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Cleavinger's calf injury could help explain his rough start to the 2026 campaign. The 31-year-old veteran has allowed two earned runs on three hits while walking four and striking out three in just 2 1/3 innings of work over his first three appearances out of the bullpen in Tampa. It remains to be seen how long Cleavinger will be out, but he should have a good chance of returning before the end of April, barring a setback. He entered the season with a chance to have save opportunities, but his poor start and now his injury have hurt his chances in that regard. Cleavinger had a nice 2.35 ERA last year and has eight saves for the Rays over the past two seasons.

Closer Pete Fairbanks is back from the IL, but Cleavinger got the call to face the lefty portion of the Toronto lineup. Fairbanks should get the bulk of the save opportunities, but Cleavinger could vulture some when the Rays have to face lefties in the ninth, or when Fairbanks needs a night off.

The command could use some work, as he's walked nine batters thus far including one in the ninth inning on Wednesday, but so far it hasn't been a real problem for him. The 30-year-old could get a handful more save opportunities with Fairbanks on the shelf, and could be picked up in most leagues for managers in need of saves.

He should return to a high-leverage role in the back of Tampa's bullpen this year if he can stay healthy. Cleavinger doesn't have any career saves or holds, but he should at least get some holds under his belt this year.

Cleavinger collided with New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks in the game on Sunday and will now face a long rehab. The 29-year-old southpaw was proving to be a key piece of Tampa's bullpen so far this year, posting a 3.00 ERA (4.94 FIP), 1.00 WHIP, six walks and 14 strikeouts in 12 innings over his 15 relief appearances. He was even better in 13 relief outings for the Rays in 2022 with a 2.41 ERA (1.77 FIP), 0.64 WHIP, four walks and 25 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings pitched.

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Garrett Cleavinger (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with an oblique injury, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. To replace him on the active roster, the Dodgers recalled pitcher Justin Bruihl from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Cleavinger has had a solid year out of the bullpen, going 2-4 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.778 WHIP and 25 percent strikeout rate over 18 innings of work. However he hasn't been an option in SV/HLD formats, as he has no saves or holds over 22 appearances this season. He can safely be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Cleavinger had made eight appearances this season before being sidelined with left forearm inflammation, allowing six runs three earned on eight hits and four walks while striking out nine over six innings of work. He's shown in the minors that he can be a high strikeout reliever (30.4 K% over six seasons), and he could be a decent option in deeper SV/HLD formats going forward.

He has been sidelined for a few weeks due to left forearm inflammation. Cleavinger only saw six innings of work with the Dodgers before going down due to injury. Hopefully, Cleavinger will be back with the team by the end of the month. Sadly, it's unlikely that Cleavinger offers much fantasy value since he won't be pitching in high leverage spots.
