The Cincinnati Reds have signed free-agent catcher Will Banfield and right-hander Hagen Danner to minor-league deals, according to the Reds' X account. Banfield appeared in just seven games for Cincinnati last year, slashing .100/.100/.100 with one hit in 10 plate appearances. In the minors, the 26-year-old from Georgia has slashed .224/.276/.366 with 63 home runs across 2,428 plate appearances in seven seasons. The Reds already have three catchers on their major-league roster in Tyler Stephenson, Jose Trevino, and Ben Rortvedt, and none of them can be optioned to the minors. While Banfield is unlikely to make the Opening Day roster, he provides glove-first depth at catcher in the event of an injury. Danner, a 27-year-old right-hander, has faced only one hitter in the majors during a brief stint with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023. Across five minor-league seasons, he has posted a 3.86 ERA with 189 strikeouts in 170 1/3 innings. While it is unlikely that either player will make the major-league roster out of spring training, even if they did, neither would be relevant in fantasy for 2026.

According to Scott Mitchell of TSN Sports, the Seattle Mariners have claimed relief pitcher Hagen Danner off of waivers. The 26-year-old made a brief one-inning appearance with Toronto in 2023 and spent the entire 2024 campaign in the minor leagues. Across 34 1/3 innings of relief with Triple-A Buffalo, the right-hander posted a 3.15 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He struck out 34 batters while serving up 13 walks. He tallied seven saves. This was similar to the 3.81 ERA and 0.95 WHIP he held across 28 1/3 innings at Triple-A in 2023. Fantasy managers should expect Danner to contend for a spot on the Opening Day roster in Seattle but will likely open the campaign at Triple-A given his lack of big league experience.

The Toronto Blue Jays designated right-handed pitcher Hagen Danner for assignment on Friday to make room on the 40-man roster for left-hander Josh Walker, who the team signed to a big-league deal worth $760,000. The 26-year-old Danner made his major-league debut with Toronto in 2023 but only appeared for one-third of an inning. The former second-round selection in 2017 out of Huntington Beach High School went 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, seven saves, 34 strikeouts and 13 walks in 34 1/3 innings over 33 appearances out of the bullpen for Triple-A Buffalo this past season. If Danner clears waivers, he'll likely return to the Blue Jays and open the 2025 regular season back at Buffalo as relief depth for the organization.
