Jeffrey Springs is Gaining Value After Two Excellent Starts

Athletics starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs is becoming a popular waiver wire pickup after back-to-back strong outings on the mound. Most recently, Springs tossed seven shutout innings, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts during Thursday's win over the New York Yankees. The southpaw is posting a 1.47 ERA with 15 strikeouts across three starts this season. That's impressive considering he faced the Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, and Yankees, which are all capable of doing damage with the bats. Springs will now head into a matchup against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. He has pitched well enough early in the season to warrant a look in 12-team formats ahead of Tuesday's matchup.

Jeffrey Springs Flirts With No-Hitter, Worth a Waiver-Wire Pickup?

Athletics starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs looked untouchable on the mound during Thursday's outing against the New York Yankees. Springs made it through six innings without allowing a hit. Unfortunately for him, Ben Rice smacked a single in the seventh inning to ruin the no-hit bid. Springs would finish his day going seven shutout innings, allowing one hit, and striking out six batters. The southpaw now holds a 1.47 ERA with 15 strikeouts across 18.1 innings of work this season. His next scheduled outing is against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. Springs has looked strong against some tough lineups to begin the season. The 33-year-old is worth a look as a streaming option ahead of his next matchup.

Jeffrey Springs Struggles in Loss

Athletics starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs posted his worst outing of the month during Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Springs was hit around early, giving up a homer to Spencer Torkelson and a two-run double to Jahmai Jones before the end of the third inning. He settled down after that, but allowed three earned runs on five hits with two walks over five innings of work in the loss. He currently holds a 4.30 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 75/34/ K/BB ratio as he heads into his next outing against the Tampa Bay Rays. Springs has some streaming value for that one, but has been more of a deep league option this season.

Jeffrey Springs With a Quality Start on Sunday

Athletics' left-hander Jeffrey Springs was excellent on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants, firing 84 pitches over 6 innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, and five strikeouts as he walked away with the no-decision as the Athletics bullpen blew the lead in the bottom of the eight inning to lost 3-2. That is back-to-back quality starts for Springs. He had another one against the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier in the week on Tuesday. The productive Week 7 lowered Springs' ERA to 3.91 on the season, and he has a 41:21 K:BB ratio in 53 innings pitched. Next up for Springs is a tough outing at home against the Philadelphia Phillies. Fantasy managers may want to consider sitting him, as he owns a 6.30 ERA at home and a 2.45 ERA on the road as the Athletics play at their interim field, Sutter Health Park.

Jeffrey Springs Tosses Six Scoreless Innings

Athletics starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs was impressive on the mound during Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers. Springs had seemingly no issues on the mound outside of a jam in the fifth inning that he escaped with no damage. He finished his day with six innings, two hits allowed, while striking out one batter in the win. Somehow, Springs was able to pitch this well while only striking out one batter throughout the entire outing. The A's decided to pull him from the contest after 68 pitches, but he probably could've pitched longer. His next start will come against the Seattle Mariners next week. Springs is worth a look in deep leagues, but the lack of strikeouts does limit his value.

Jeffrey Springs Cleared To Start On Saturday Against White Sox

Athletics left-hander Jeffrey Springs (hamstring) has been cleared to make his next start on Saturday in Sacramento against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Springs' last start on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers was cut short in the third inning when he dealt with tightness in his right hamstring. The injury turned out to be nothing serious for the 32-year-old veteran southpaw, though, so he won't need to miss a turn through the A's rotation. It hasn't been the best start for Springs in his first year with the A's, as he's gone 3-2 with a 5.64 ERA (5.17 FIP) and 1.66 WHIP with 23 strikeouts and 14 walks over his first five starts covering 22 1/3 frames. Since going six shutout innings with a season-high nine K's in his first start in 2025 against Seattle, Springs has allowed at least three earned runs in each of his last four starts. It hasn't been pretty, but he'll be worth a look as a streamer in fantasy on Saturday against Chicago.

Jeffrey Springs Leaves Start With Hamstring Tightness

Athletics starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs left the game in the third inning of Sunday's start with hamstring tightness. He had already given up six runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks in a game that the A's would go on to lose 14-1 to the Brewers. After the game, Springs said the hamstring issue was more like a cramp that started in the second inning and worsened in the third. He expects to be ready to pitch for his next start, but he will undergo further evaluations over the next couple of days. He currently holds an ugly 5.64 ERA on the season, and will look to turn things around in his next start if he's ready to go.

Jeffrey Springs Strikes Out Nine, Picks Up Win In Shutout

Athletics starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs was stellar in his first start of 2025, tossing six shutout innings in Friday's 7-0 victory over the Mariners. The lefty allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out nine batters en route to picking up the win. Springs underwent Tommy John surgery in 2023 after just three starts, and finally returned late last season, compiling seven starts down the stretch for the Rays with a 3.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and an 11:37 BB:K over 33 innings pitched. The 31-year-old owns a strong career 21.9 percent K-BB% as a starter and a 10.12 K/9. The southpaw will be a popular waiver wire addition, and rightfully so; he should be rostered in most leagues. His next start lines up with Chicago at home next Wednesday.

Jeffrey Springs Not Facing Any Restrictions In 2025

Athletics left-hander Jeffrey Springs (elbow) isn't expected to have any workload restrictions almost two years removed from Tommy John surgery in 2023, according to manager Mark Kotsay. The 32-year-old southpaw is feeling like himself again and is excited for his opportunity with his new team in 2025. "Physically, I feel good. I can pick it up. I can let it eat. I can do everything and there's no second-guessing. There's no pain or anything I had to deal with for the last two years," Springs said. Kotsay expects Springs to make 30-plus starts in his first season with the A's after returning late in the year for the Rays in 2024 to post a 3.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 37 strikeouts and 11 walks in seven starts. He was developing as a front-line starter with Tampa before his elbow injury, but he's also on the wrong side of 30 and has exceeded 50 innings in the big leagues just once.

A's Acquire Jeffrey Springs From Rays

The Athletics are acquiring left-hander Jeffrey Springs from the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday in exchange for right-handers Joe Boyle and Jacob Watters, outfielder Will Simpson and a compensation Round A draft pick, according to sources. It's the second big addition to the A's starting rotation this offseason after they signed right-hander Luis Severino to the largest guaranteed deal in franchise history. The 32-year-old Springs didn't pitch in the first half in 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and finished with a 3.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 33 innings over seven starts down the stretch for Tampa. Springs will be pitching in a minor-league park for home games and has never exceeded 50 innings at the big-league level, so the A's will surely limit his workload, limiting his fantasy upside in 2025. The southpaw has a 3.39 career ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 27.2% strikeout rate in his seven MLB seasons.
