Pirates Acquire Jhostynxon Garcia From Red Sox

The Pittsburgh Pirates are acquiring outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia from the Boston Red Sox on Thursday in exchange for right-hander Johan Oviedo, left-hander Tyler Samaniego, and catcher Adonys Guzman, sources tell ESPN's Jeff Passan. The Pirates will receive another player in addition to Garcia, who should have a shot in spring training to win the starting left field job in Pittsburgh in 2026. The 22-year-old Venezuelan nicknamed The Password made his big-league debut in Boston this year and had a double in nine plate appearances with two walks and five strikeouts in just five games played. Garcia hit .267/.340/.470 with an .810 OPS, 21 home runs, 75 RBI, 79 runs scored, and seven steals in 114 games with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester in the minors before his call-up. The 6-foot, 163-pounder is listed as Pittsburgh's No. 6 prospect on MLB Pipeline and is known for producing high exit velocities and has the raw power to produce 25 to 30 homers a year as a full-time player for the Bucs.

Red Sox Send Jhostynxon Garcia Back to Minors

The Boston Red Sox optioned outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia to Triple-A Worcester on Friday and recalled infielder Nick Sogard from Worcester in a corresponding move, according to Chris Cotillo of Mass Live. The BoSox called up Nixon, nicknamed The Password, on Aug. 22, but he did very little in his limited time in the big leagues, going 1-for-7 at the plate with a double and five strikeouts. The club's third-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will go back to the farm for now, but there's a good chance he'll be brough back up to the big leagues for the stretch run when MLB rosters expand on Monday, Sept. 1. The 22-year-old Venezuelan has hit a strong .289/.363/.512 in 99 games with Worcester and Double-A Portland this year with 20 homers, 73 RBI and six steals and has some of the best raw power in Boston's system.

Jhostynxon Garcia Batting Fifth in MLB Debut

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia is starting in center field and will bat fifth in his major-league debut in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees and left-hander Max Fried on Friday. It will not be an easy first assignment for Garcia. The 22-year-old Venezuelan was called up to the majors for the first time this week after hitting a combined .289/.363/.512 with an .875 OPS, 20 home runs, 73 RBI, 71 runs scored and six stolen bases in 99 games with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. It's unclear how much playing time he'll get in Beantown with the BoSox trying to make a run to get into the postseason over the final stretch of the year. Garcia should at least be rostered in dynasty/keeper formats, though, as the team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. "The Password" has some of the best raw power among right-handed prospects in the game.

Jhostynxon Garcia Headed to the Big Leagues

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia continued his quick rise through Boston's ranks on Thursday, which culminated in his expected promotion to the big-league club from Triple-A Worcester. Boston's third-ranked prospect began 2025 at Double-A, and after 33 games there, he earned a promotion to Worcester, where the right-handed slugger slashed .303/.367/.564 with 17 home runs in 66 games. A 27.5 percent strikeout rate at that level is worth noting, but it may not matter so long as he can keep delivering home runs (and potentially a decent average) for the Red Sox. The 22-year-old will take the place of Wilyer Abreu (calf), who is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list, and assuming he can garner regular at-bats, the Venezuelan would be worthy of a roster spot in deep 12-team fantasy leagues.

Jhostynxon Garcia Tallies Four Hits, Four RBI on Saturday

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia tallied a four-hit night on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Worcester. Boston's third-ranked prospect (MLB No. 78) is now 8-for-14 (.571) with a double, a home run, six RBI, and five runs scored over his last three games, and is now slashing .292/.366/.520 for the season with 20 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A. With his big power, the 22-year-old also has an elevated strikeout rate of 27.3 percent through 64 games at Worcester, which is something to keep an eye on, although it may not be an issue so long as he's hitting home runs. The Venezuelan could see a late-season call-up if he continues to produce, but if not, he looks like a lock to debut in 2026.

Jhostynxon Garcia Snaps Skid with Three-Hit Night

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia was able to snap his brief skid at Triple-A with a big showing on Thursday. Facing the Iowa Cubs, Garcia went 3-for-5 with a home run. Leading up to this game, Garcia went 0-for-11 over his last three contests at Worcester. However, before this slight bump, Garcia was flashing immense upside at the top level of the minor leagues, posting a .381/.409/.881 slash line with four doubles, one triple, five home runs, and a 10:1 K:BB. Since joining Triple-A, the 22-year-old outfielder has looked rather impressive, holding a stellar .300/.366/.575 slash line with 17 long balls across a 62-game stint. Given his elite production at the top level of the Boston system, Garcia could be in the mix for a late-season MLB debut.

Jhostynxon Garcia Launches 16th Triple-A Home Run

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run during their contest on Friday against Buffalo. Over his last 15 games at Worcester, Garcia has been one of the most dominant power hitters at the level, holding a .354/.382/.785 line with five doubles, one triple, and seven home runs. During this stretch, he has posted a 1.167 OPS. Overall, since joining the top level of the Boston system, Garcia has held a .307/.372/.589 line with 11 doubles and 16 home runs. Earlier in the season, Garcia hit just three home runs through a 33-game stint at Double-A Portland. Given his quick progression at Triple-A, Garcia could be in the mix to debut in Boston later this season. He is worth stashing in deeper formats for the time being.

Red Sox Prospect Jhostynxon Garcia Raking at Triple-A

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia was red-hot last week, hitting .417 with four home runs, four doubles, and 13 RBI at Triple-A Worcester. The 22-year-old slugger is now slashing .305/.375/.587 with 15 homers and 44 RBI in just 54 games, making a strong case for a September call-up. Garcia's power plays to all fields and against both lefties and righties, giving him everyday potential at the next level. He'll need to tighten his approach against advanced pitching, but he's quickly becoming one of the more exciting breakout bats in the Red Sox system.

Jhostynxon Garcia Extends Power Surge on Sunday

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia went 2-for-3 with one home run and a walk during their contest on Sunday against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Garcia has enjoyed an incredible power surge over the past week and is making a strong case to make his MLB debut before the end of the campaign. Over his last six games, Garcia has launched four long balls while holding a .417/.462/1.083 slash line. Since joining Triple-A Worcester, the No. 3-ranked prospect in Boston has held an impressive .305/.375/587 line with a .962 OPS across 54 games. He opened the season with Double-A Portland, where he was slightly less productive, holding a .748 OPS with just three home runs across a 33-game stint. Fantasy managers should continue to keep a close eye on Garcia as he could emerge as a stash candidate in the coming weeks.

Jhostynxon Garcia Continues Strong Run at Triple-A

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia went 3-for-6 with two doubles and a home run across a doubleheader against Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. This was another dominant showing from the No. 99-ranked prospect in the sport on MLB.com. Over his last 16 contests, Garcia has been one of the most dominant hitters at the Triple-A level, posting a .333/.380/.576 slash line with four doubles and four home runs. During this stretch, he has tallied 16 RBI and crossed home plate 14 times. After starting the campaign at Double-A Portland, Garcia only needed 33 games to prove he was ready to join the top ranks of the minor leagues. Through his first 52 games at Worcester, Garcia has held a .298/.365/.556 line. He is worth monitoring as he could be promoted later in the season if the Red Sox remain in the Wild Card race.
