Pittsburgh Pirates infield/outfield prospect Ronny Simon is expected to get the call to the big leagues on Wednesday after a strong campaign at Triple-A Indianapolis. The 5-foot-8 Dominican hit .330 with seven home runs and 33 steals in 99 games for the Indians, while producing a strong .419 on-base percentage thanks in part to a 12.4 percent walk rate. Despite not having big home run totals, his hard-hit rate, average exit velocity (EV), and max EV all register 84th percentile or better at Triple-A, so he has the ability to hit for extra bases, and along with his speed, there are some attributes here that make him a potential fantasy asset. Though the switch-hitter didn't do much in his previous taste of the majors in 2025, there is reason to believe he could have more success this time around. With eligibility at 2B and OF in Yahoo! leagues, the 26-year-old is worth a look in deeper 12+ team leagues, or for any fantasy managers searching the waiver wire for steals.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed outfielder Ronny Simon (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list with a dislocated left shoulder and recalled infielder/outfielder Cam Devanney from Triple-A Indianapolis. Simon suffered the injury as a pinch runner on Friday when he slid into home to score a run in a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. It could prove to be a season-ender for the 25-year-old rookie, who opened 2025 with the Miami Marlins before joining the Pirates as a waiver pickup on June 2. Between the two teams this season, Simon has mustered an ineffective .234/.299/.273 line with seven RBI in 27 games and 88 plate appearances.

The Pirates recalled Simon from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday when they placed outfielder Jack Suwinski (groin) on the 10-day injured list, but now he may also require an IL stint. Claimed off waivers from the Miami Marlins in June, Simon has totaled 88 plate appearances this season and hit .234/.299/.273 with no home runs and seven RBI.

The Miami Marlins are expected to designate first baseman Matt Mervis and second baseman Ronny Simon for assignment prior to their contest on Friday against the San Francisco Giants. The Marlins acquired Mervis from the Cubs in the winter. While he showed solid power upside during his first 23 games, posting a .534 SLG with an .827 OPS, since May 1, Mervis has held a low .111/.200/.156 slash line with just two extra-base hits. Simon joined the MLB roster in late April when Griffin Conine hit the injured list. Through 19 games this season, Simon has posted a modest .234/.327/.277 slash line with two doubles and no home runs. With both Mervis and Simon likely exiting the roster, fantasy managers should expect Eric Wagaman to see most of the time at first base while Javier Sanoja continues to fill in for the injured Xavier Edwards (back) at the keystone.

In this span the 24-year-old has posted a .371/.436/.629 line with four doubles, one triple, one home run, three RBI, one swiped bag, and a 4:6 BB:K ratio. Overall, in 75 games at Triple-A Durham this season, Simon has held a stellar .295/.349/.473 line with eight home runs, 39 RBI, and nine swiped bags. Over the past two seasons Simon has logged 107 games at the Triple-A level and has held a strong .291/.358/.459 line. He is considered the 26th best prospect in the Tampa Bay system on MLB.com and could be worth adding in deeper leagues when he is promoted.
