Jonathon Long Has Skills to be a Productive Major-League Player

In 10 games with his new organization, Miami Marlins corner-infield prospect Jonathon Long has fared well at Triple-A Jacksonville, hitting 9-for-28 (.321) with three RBI and 11 runs scored. Long came over to the Marlins organization after spending the beginning of the season in the Cubs system. He played all year prior at Triple-A Iowa and hit .283 in 99 games and hit 12 homers with 62 RBI and 67 runs scored. Now with Miami, Long, a right-handed hitting third or first base prospect, has a clearer path to big-league playing time. He is the No. 19-ranked prospect in the Marlins' system after the trade and at 24 years old, could get a look at an MLB debut, especially with first baseman Kyle Stowers on the IL. Long has a 50-grade hit tool with 50-grade power and could be an impact bat for the Marlins and for fantasy teams down the stretch.

Jonathon Long Has Clear Path To Major League At-Bats With New Team

In nine games with his new squad, the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Miami Marlins corner-infield prospect Jonathon Long is 9-for-25 (.360) at the plate with three RBI and 11 runs scored. The right-handed hitting third base/first base prospect was traded from the Chicago Cubs organization to the Marlins. He started at Triple-A Iowa with 12 homers and 62 RBI in 99 games with a .283 average and 67 runs scored. Long slots in at the No. 19 prospect in the Marlins system, but he might have a clearer path to the majors than he did with the Cubs. The Marlins are playing Javier Sanoja at third base and now have Kyle Stowers on the IL at first base. So there looks to be an opportunity for Long to make his big-league debut. If he does, he would be a solid bat for fantasy managers down the stretch.

Jonathon Long Could Debut with New MLB Club Down the Stretch

According to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, recently acquired first base prospect Jonathon Long could debut with the Miami Marlins later in the second half. De Nicola reports that Long, who was shipped to Miami ahead of the trade deadline, "should receive a callup by season's end if he continues to produce." Long joined the Marlins in the trade that sent left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett to the North Side of Chicago. With Iowa this season, Long was very productive, posting a .283/.364/.455 line with a .819 OPS, 30 doubles, 12 home runs, and two stolen bases. Since joining Triple-A Jacksonville, Long has held a stellar .386 AVG through five games. With Miami struggling to hit southpaws, the right-handed power bat would provide a much-needed spark to their lineup.

Jonathon Long Looks To Make Waves With New Organization in Majors

Miami Marlins first base/outfield prospect Jonathon Long is looking to jump-start his career after being traded to the Marlins from the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline. Long was productive this season for Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs organization, playing 99 games and hitting .283 with 12 homers and 62 RBI to go with 67 runs scored. Long has been assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville after coming over to the Marlins. He slots in as the No. 14 prospect with the Marlins and has a 55-grade hit tool with 50-grade power. The 24-year-old right-handed hitter can play first base or the outfield, giving him added versatility for a potential call-up to the Marlins. The Marlins have some decent outfield and first base depth but could look to Long for some added firepower with the bat this year. Long is a solid stash with a decent path to some playing time at the big league level.

Jonathon Long Has Clearer Path To Majors After Trade to Miami

The Miami Marlins acquired first base prospect Jonathon Long from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for pitcher Braxton Garrett. Long slots in as the No. 14 prospect in the Miami system and could see time in the majors for the Marlins this season. Right now, Kyle Stowers leads the depth chart at first base for the Marlins at the major league level, but Long could provide some depth this season and also could slot in at one of the outfield spots if needed. Long has a 55-grade hit tool with 50-grade power and hit .283 for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs with 12 homers and 62 RBI in 396 at bats. The 24-year-old added 67 runs scored for Iowa. He is a name to stash in fantasy following his change of scenery and he could see time in the majors in his age 24 season in he second half of this year.

Jonathon Long Making Strong Case for MLB Debut

Chicago Cubs first baseman/outfield prospect Jonathon Long is having a strong season at Triple-A Iowa, but has been particularly hot as of late. The Cubs' sixth-ranked prospect is 17-for-36 (.472) over his last eight games, including a three-hit, four-hit, and even a five-hit performance, during which time he tallied five doubles, two home runs, and a 5:8 BB:K. In all, the former ninth-round draft pick is slashing .283/.364/.451 with 11 home runs and a pair of steals over 90 games. The right-handed hitter is registering average-to-better-than-average chase, walk, swinging-strike, strikeout, hard-hit, and barrel rates, along with 84th percentile average exit velocity (91.0 mph) at Iowa. The stats backed by results give the 22-year-old a solid case for an MLB call-up, which could happen in the coming weeks, so managers in deeper 12+ team leagues should put him on their stash radar.

Can Jonathon Long Debut in the Second Half?

Chicago Cubs first-base prospect Jonathon Long has seen his production soar over the last month at the Triple-A level and is emerging as a legitimate second-half call-up. Currently, Long is viewed as the No. 7 prospect in the Cubs system. Even though there may not be a clear opening on the MLB roster, if he continues this current trajectory, the team will have a hard time keeping him in the minor leagues down the stretch. Over his last 16 games at Iowa, Long has carried an elite .313/.400/.625 line with eight doubles, four home runs, and a 14:9 K:BB. During this stretch, Long posted a perfect 5-for-5 game on July 9, launching his 10th long ball of the season. While he had a slow start, Long has quickly found his footing at the top club. Managers in deeper 12+ team leagues should continue to closely monitor him, as a second-half call-up is now in play.

Will Jonathon Long Play a Role for the Cubs in the Second Half?

Chicago Cubs first-base prospect Jonathon Long has shown significant upside at the Triple-A level and could play a role as the team looks to clinch a postseason spot down the stretch. Long is currently ranked MLB.com's No. 7 overall prospect. He spent the entire 2025 season at the Triple-A level, where he posted a solid .305/.404/.479 line with 23 doubles, 20 home runs and a 116:79 K:BB. While he got off to a slower start at the beginning of the 2026 season, he has since rounded into form. Over his last 29 contests with the top club, the first baseman has posted an elite .302/.388/.629 line with a 1.017 OPS, 14 doubles and eight home runs. Even though Michael Busch remains the primary first baseman, Long could find a role as a potential late-season DH or an injury replacement. His upside and recent surge make him a worthy candidate to continue monitoring in deeper leagues.

Jonathon Long Tallies Hit in Return to Action

Chicago Cubs first base prospect Jonathon Long (elbow) went 1-for-3 with an RBI during his return on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies. The first base prospect has been on the shelf for all of March due to this minor elbow sprain. However, seeing that he has already returned to action suggests he will not face many restrictions by the start of the regular season. Per MLB.com, Long is considered the team's No. 7-ranked prospect. In 2025, Long spent his entire campaign with Triple-A Iowa and appears destined to begin his 2026 season there as well. Over his first 140 games with the Iowa Cubs, Long held a .325/.404/.479 line with an .883 OPS and 20 home runs. Given that Michael Busch holds the everyday role at first base on the MLB roster, Long will likely have to wait for an injury to earn his first call to the big leagues.

Jonathon Long Nearing Return to Baseball Activities

Chicago Cubs first base prospect Jonathon Long (elbow) is nearing a return to baseball activities, according to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score. Long has been sidelined with a bruised elbow but has avoided any structural damage and should be cleared to return to action in the coming days. Long is considered the team's No. 7-ranked prospect on MLB.com and one of the top hitting prospects in the system. The Long Beach State product joined the Cubs back in the ninth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Last summer, he spent his entire campaign at Triple-A Iowa and looked rather impressive. Across 140 games, Long held his own, posting a .305/.404/.479 line with 23 doubles, 20 home runs, and an .883 OPS. Given that Michael Busch is slated to be the everyday first baseman, Long will need to wait for an injury to be in the mix for his MLB debut.
