Logan Davidson Heading Back to the Minors

The Athletics announced on Monday that they optioned infield prospect Logan Davidson and catcher Jhonny Pereda back to Triple-A Las Vegas and reinstated first baseman Nick Kurtz (hip) from the 10-day injured list and added catcher Austin Wynns to the active roster. Davidson, who is ranked as the team's No. 30 prospect on MLB Pipeline, recently got his first major-league call-up but went 3-for-20 with a double, two RBI, a run scored, three walks and 12 strikeouts in his first nine games in the Show. With Kurtz returning from a short stint on the IL, Davidson will head back to the farm to work on his craft with the Aviators. If the 27-year-old makes it back to the big leagues this year, he'll serve in a super-utility role in Sacramento. At best, he's one to stash in deep dynasty/keeper leagues.

A's Calling Up Logan Davidson

The Athletics are calling up former first-round shortstop Logan Davidson from Triple-A Las Vegas, a source tells MLB.com's Martin Gallegos. The 27-year-old is the son of former big-league outfielder Mark Davidson and was selected with the 29th overall pick in 2019. Although Davidson was being compared to Corey Seager, he's just now making his major-league debut six years after being drafted. He has evolved into a switch-hitting super-utility player and was batting .303 (44-for-145) with two homers, 10 doubles, a triple, seven stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 41 games for Vegas before his call-up. Davidson has been playing shortstop, third base and the outfield, but his best chance for playing time in the big leagues will be at third base for the A's after the team placed Gio Urshela (hamstring) on the injured list on Thursday. Davidson is listed as the team's No. 30 prospect, per MLB Pipeline.
