Luis Garcia Starting For Astros In Game 5

The Houston Astros will go with rookie pitcher Luis Garcia as the starter in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series against the Rays on Thursday. Garcia appeared in just five games in 2020, making only one start in the abbreviated season. He had a 2.92 ERA and nine strikeouts in his 12 1/3 innings. Thursday will mark his first appearance in the playoffs. The 23-year-old right-hander had an FIP of 4.25 with a 0.97 WHIP in his five outings this year, walking five and allowing four earned runs in his 12 1/3 frames. With their season on the line, don't expect the Astros to leave Garcia in for long against Tampa, making him a poor DFS choice in his playoff debut.

Luis Garcia To Start On Wednesday

Houston Astros pitcher Luis Garcia will make his first career MLB start against the As on Wednesday with starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. (neck) landing on the injured list. Garcia had never pitched above High-A ball before making his MLB debut in relief earlier this season, but he posted an impressive 2.50 ERA with a 12.5 K/9 over three minor league seasons. Control has been an issue for Garcia (4.2 BB/9 in the minor leagues), and that could be a problem against an As team thats chased pitches outside of the strike zone at a 26.8% rate so far this season (fourth-best mark in MLB). Its not clear how stretched out Garcia will be either, so fantasy players should not rely on him on Wednesday. Still, Garcia should stay on the radar of fantasy players going forward.

Luis Garcia to Begin Rehab Assignment Thursday

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Luis Garcia (back) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the High-A ballclub on Thursday. Garcia has been sidelined since May 13 due to back spasms. He has a strong 2.25 ERA this season through 16 innings, but doesn't offer much fantasy value.
