Luis Morales Extends Impressive Start to MLB Career

Athletics right-handed pitching prospect Luis Morales continued to impress during his victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday evening. In his fourth MLB start (and fifth MLB appearance), the right-hander logged seven shutout innings with just two hits against one of the top offenses in the sport. In this start, Morales struck out a career-high seven hitters while serving up just two walks. Through his first 22 2/3 innings in the big leagues, the No. 80-ranked prospect in the sport according to MLB.com has posted an elite 1.19 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP. Earlier in the summer, Morales was not as successful at Triple-A, posting a much higher 4.40 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP. Given his near-dominant start to his career, he remains a solid option heading into his next projected start against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Luis Morales Earns First Win

Athletics starting pitcher Luis Morales looked sharp on the mound during Saturday's outing against the Los Angeles Angels. The right-hander had mixed results during his first start when he tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, but walked five batters in the process. This time around, Morales was able to locate his pitches much better on the mound. He threw five innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out five batters to earn his first career win in the MLB. Morales truly has the stuff to be a frontline starter in the league, but still has to work on his command. He figures to continue getting chances down the stretch with this being a lost season for the A's. There's some deep league streaming appeal here with Morales.

Luis Morales Starting on Sunday

Athletics starting pitcher Luis Morales is scheduled to take the mound for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The 22-year-old is set to make his first career start in the big leagues. Morales made one appearance for the A's before this and threw two innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. The expectation is that Morales will have a limited workload on the mound. The right-hander has a tremendous fastball, but control has been an issue for him. There is plenty of long term upside there, but Morales is unlikely to pitch deep into this game. He'll only offer low-end streaming appeal for Sunday's contest.

Luis Morales Expected to be Promoted

Athletics starting pitcher Luis Morales is expected to be promoted to the major leagues on Friday, reports Francys Romero of Beisbol FR. He is the A's third-best prospect according to MLB.com and will look to carry over his Triple-A success into the big leagues. In 89 innings in the minors this season, he has posted a 3.73 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 107 strikeouts and 35 walks. The 22-year-old was a starter for the majority of the season before shifting to relief recently, so it's not clear what type of role he will assume in the majors. A spot in the rotation did just open up with JP Sears being dealt to the Padres, and there is currently no probable pitcher listed for Friday's game. It could just be a spot start, but it's worth monitoring in deep fantasy leagues as Morales has great swing-and-miss stuff.

Luis Morales Moving to Bullpen at Triple-A Las Vegas

Athletics right-handed pitching prospect Luis Morales has recently transitioned into a bullpen role at Triple-A Las Vegas. After posting a 5.90 ERA over six starts following his late-May promotion, the A's have shifted Morales into a multi-inning relief role over his last four outings. The early results have been encouraging. Morales has allowed just two earned runs on eight hits across nine innings out of the pen, showing improved effectiveness in shorter stints. The 22-year-old features a lively fastball that can touch 99 mph, along with a slider, curveball, and changeup in his arsenal. Fantasy managers should monitor this development closely. The Athletics may be grooming Morales for a late-season relief role or adjusting his long-term trajectory toward a high-leverage bullpen profile. Dynasty managers should continue to hold, while redraft managers should take a wait-and-see approach.

Luis Morales Shines On Sunday

Athletics right-handed pitching prospect Luis Morales enjoyed his best start of the campaign, logging seven innings of one-run ball against Double-A Corpus Christi. In this outing, Morales allowed just two hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters. He served up just one walk. Through his first 36 1/3 innings of work at the Double-A level, the No. 4-ranked prospect in the system has posted a strong 2.97 ERA with a stellar 0.99 WHIP. He has struck out 45 batters and served up 14 free passes. Last season, the 22-year-old spent his campaign at the High-A level, where he logged 81 innings to the tune of a 4.22 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression as it appears Morales could be in the mix to reach Triple-A later this season.
